I'm not sure what to expect in this game. Normally, JC would try to get an early running clock and then pull their starters. In this game, though, I won't be surprised if JC comes out passing the ball from the start, or if they start McCoart and Slone on defense and give some young running backs early playing time. The final score of this game will probably not be a good indicator of Rowan County's ability to compete. This game is a good opportunity for Johnson Central to show a few new wrinkles in its offense and defense.

There were more players on the field than fans in the stands.
God, I remember this one. Postponed from 9/11, had to do it on Saturday afternoon. And this was our historically awful era, think that was a Bruce Humphrey team. That hire after Bill Musick left set the program back a decade or two.

We have made far better decisions since then. Thank God.
The Humphrey year was very bad, but the how that led to the next two seasons was even worse, IMO. Those were three long miserable seasons.
That should have been "hire" instead of "how." Following an undefeated season under Bill Musick, the next three seasons featured what was probably the most talented 1 and 2 win teams in the state, but you would never had guessed that was the case by watching them play. I remember a game against Paintsville when Johnson Central led at halftime but were obviously out of shape and gasping for air. The Tigers dominated the second half. Humphrey's team was bad, but the players were well conditioned.
The 2002 Apple Bowl.... Chat Yates scored all five of JC's TD's.

I think we led 12-0 at the half.

The ONLY time the 2002 JC team ran during practice was the first day of school when one of the seniors layed out the entire first day and showed up in time for practice.

Bruce Humphrey should have NEVER been hired as the JC coach.  Such a mistake.
Bill Tom Ross may have been a great guy.... but he was not a good football coach.
I was on those teams with Musick, Humphrey and Ross and my junior and senior seniors were a total wash. We had super talent and heart. We played better and with more intensity in JV games because no one cared about Humphrey. After the loss to Lawrence Co he about killed us running sprints and hills.. We had no respect for him after that …

My sons felt the opposite and both of them played for Musick and Humphrey. They both liked Humphrey and Music. My youngest son refused to play for Ross and my oldest son played but did not like playing for him at all. Humphrey was saddled with a weak staff, who he relied on too much early in the season. The bickering among the staff and parents were the worst part of that season. Seniors were walking on and off the field and had a horrible attitude. Ultimately, the coaching staff is responsible for the attitudes of their players. Humphrey should have benched the lot of them and told their parents to take them home if they didn't like seeing them benched. He lost control of the team early and that was his fault. Still, I liked the guy and so did my sons. At least the boys were in great physical condition at the end of the season.
