This thread has been epic over the years. But has recently lost its luster. Fairview has improved a great deal with the hire of Alex Roy. Manning, Kouns, and Murray have had better statistical years than anyone at Fairview has had in almost a decade. Biggest thing, imo, is Roy has the interest back of a lot of people in ol’ Soggy Mossy Bottom.
To the naked eye, the Rams come in off of their best offensive outing of the season. But it was the defense that provided short fields all evening for the Rams to capitalize on. With Fairview struggling to do much offensively against Nicholas County, while their defense continues to give up points in bulk, this is going to be a tough game for the Eagles.

After a tough slate of games to start the season its cupcake city throughout district play until the season closes with LCA. Fairview might start off with one good drive but it’s all Raceland in this one. I think this will be a running g clock by halftime with the Ram starters sitting the bench in the second half.

Don’t even get me started on the mossy bottom crab apple eaters! This game should be discontinued now that we have the RPI. They got crushed two weeks in a row by two teams we would beat by over a hundred. Drop football and start a snail catching team or something!

I would pump the breaks on the Hype train in Westwood. Hate to say but Ram a devil is correct. Fairview has beaten teams with a combined record 3 -16. I understand enrollment is small but beating such teams is good for moral but hardly impressive

This would have been a good year for Fairview to drop out of district play and win some games and build interest back up in the program. They have a good thing going but district play is going to give them some bad losses that can hurt morale pretty bad.

I thought that was a game that they could have possibly won or at least been competitive in.

Rams win with a running clock

If I’m Roy I’m going straight back to Huntington to find me some more players. At this point what do you have to lose? Get some more of those vans and an apartment complex and start busing them in again!

KHSAA lets everyone play any more these days. May be a game or maybe 3 that they gotta sit out…but they’d be eligible in time for the playoffs lol

The only thing keeping the Rams from scoring 80 will be the running clock.

I do t think the running clock could stop it. They were beat 18-0 by our JV last year. Last year I’m certain our 8th grade team would have given them all they wanted. The big difference this year and last year though is the numbers. Last year by week 4 or 5 the Eagles had the same 11 playing all 3 phases of the game. This year, while it’s not ideal and you have to have underclassmen play a lot of reps, having almost 20 kids on the sideline is a HUGE improvement from the 4 or 5 that were dressed this time last year.
I usually don’t like to see it done, but I really hope we keep our varsity in for atleast a half offensively. We have had so many injuries and moving parts, the offense needs the reps. Defense I say move em around as much as you want. He’ll do it the whole game. But offense side of the ball still needs work.

Don't you have a couple on your team? Lol, think they'll make them ride the bus back to Raceland after the game or just leave with their parents

Nah…they were just in lost in the weeds for a few years. We got em now and they are better than ever!

It’s beautiful comedy to read this thread as it goes back and forth on the topic of recruiting.
Is it true that the Huntington pipeline is back open? The Orange “R” has never had a recruit/transfer?
If Fairview did suddenly get good again with a little(or lot) of out-of-state help, would they get in trouble- because their neighbors just couldn’t stand it?
Outsiders need answers!!!

I believe 4 former eagles on the roster. They came over in 6th or 7th grade. None of which played HS sports at Fairview. And 3 kids that transferred from Lewis County this year. No one hiding or denying that. It’s been discussed and documented. Outsiders can get their answers. There they are. The Huntington pipeline comment was made in efforts to get the Beagle nation fired up I believe. What cracks me up is the term “recruiting” and how it is “defined” by different “organizations” hahahaha
I’d just like to know how the hell we at Raceland could possibly recruit when everyone and their brother in the county and tri-state and half our own people hate our guts.

I’m not hating anybody. Everybody recruits, nowadays! It’s spilled over into the college game on Steroids. Alabama and the other elites recruit players and develop them; they don’t want to sit and wait or share reps as they see younger classes of five stars roll in; and they jump ship. It’s why Vandy can now beat BAMA. I guess it’s the American way.
I do wish KHSAA WOULD STOP PRETENDING TO HAVE “RULES” against it. If parents and school districts accept it….just stop pretending to have rules that you never really enforce.

I was just telling RAD he probably should be careful badmouthing Westwood people when you have kids playing for you that live there. No matter when they "moved"

Those families are excluded from any and all bashing…they could live on mars…their kids are Rams lol and FWIW that community lost some really good families and awesome KIDS when they left Fairview. I think very highly of all of them.

I would argue the only major thing separating Raceland and Pikeville right now; is- Pikeville has less competition for Pike CO’s and surrounding counties’ athletes than does Raceland.
In Pike Co,- it’s go to Belfry and run the triple option or Pikeville.
Raceland has to recruit against Ashland to attract kids.
However, the distances are longer for parents to commute their kids in E Ky.
So, I’d say- Pikeville is winning at all levels! Coach Mac has to know this; wasn’t he at Greenup for a time?

Pikevilles decision to keep a cap on their enrollment and that very fact is what will keep Pikeville as the big dog in 1A. They are really smart in the way they handle their enrollment and how they use that process to build their athletic department while keeping their academic numbers up at the same time and you don’t hear a lot from their neck of the woods about kids getting into trouble. Other than Ashland, Raceland JFL is becoming the most popular in the area, so kids are coming over at a younger age and that’s allowing our numbers to grow. It’s a slower process but things seem to be moving in the right direction there.

I miss the days when Clint Westwood was here…is he still around? Was he apart of the McPeak Kliq and scurried off when they got ran out of town? Was he Bill Musick’s yes man? Was he the one that got a job and a house so his kid could play in Westweed? C’mon people!!! This thread used to be a blast.

As much as the anti-eagle blood runs through my veins, I will say one thing. I am very surprised at their turnaround this year, especially from a numbers standpoint. That alone, made them a few scores better this year, than last year. It’s nearly impossible to be competitive relying completely on Freshman and a few juniors at just about every position. Which is where they were this time last year. I think they came to Raceland last year with 15 players dressed. They have nearly doubled that. Alex Roy has peaked everyone’s interest again. They need to keep this type of schedule for a few years and build the program back up. As for this Friday…it’s going to be tough for them to stay within 5 or 6 scores I would say.
