Little brother loses again. Never been a rivalry, never will be. Jarred should have taken the job when he had the chance. Once the Rb is gone BL is done.

Have the national guard escort you next game?, just jokes but good game.

Just so proud of the Blackcats. To those outside of the city and county, a win over Betsy Layne is really no big deal and throughout the history of Blackcat football it hasn’t been. Tonight was bittersweet because the trend for this Prestonsburg football program continues in the right direction. Last seasons loss at BL was embarrassing. Not just because Betsy Layne won, but how they won. It was worrisome for many for a lot of reasons. Basically the entire BL coaching staff are former Blackcats. During the off season, 4 Prestonsburg players transferred to Betsy Layne. It was all just a huge gut punch to the program and a lot had their doubts about the upcoming season and the future of Prestonsburg football. There were rumblings of kids in the feeder program leaving, etc. BUT, Wesley Hager come in, put together a staff of Blackcats and they all had one common goal and that was to restore this program back to where it belongs. These coaches and players got to work last spring and have yet to stop. Lots of hills were ran, sleds still getting pushed, gassers, etc. These coaches knew the only way this team stands a chance is by utilizing their speed and endurance at all 11 positions and that’s exactly what they’ve done and it’s worked exceptionally. Kudos to these boys and this staff. Enough can never be said about that bunch.

The offensive and defensive lines were a major concern coming into the season, those guys have done nothing but get better and better every week. They stay low and they fire off the football. They aren’t perfect, but they’ve been DANG good. 2 freshman, 1 sophomore, and 2 juniors anchor that offensive line. Tonight they went against basically all seniors and held their own and won the battle many times. That’s impressive. They opened up holes for Harris, Elliott, and Hatfield to run through.

How about Alex Harris and Dalton Elliott??? Those two are studs. Harris has improved every week with his playmaking ability. He’s also one of the best defensive players on the team also. Dalton Elliott is known for his speed, but tonight he had some grown man runs. Breaking tackles and fighting for extra yards. If these two keep running hard like they’re doing they’re going to lead this team on a potential playoff run.

Hats off to Andrew McCutcheon. Kid is dynamite out of the backfield for BL. He’s small, but he’s so hard to tackle and his ability to stop and go is incredible. He kept BL in this game. He should be mentioned for Mr. Football.

Again, super proud and happy for Hager, his staff and this team. Let the haters hate. Blackcats just keep winning. 6-0.

Biggest game of the year is next Friday at the crib…. Congrats Blackcats!!!

Big win for Prestonsburg. It was nice to see some businesses windows painted in town too. Great atmosphere too. This is what Prestonsburg needed. They are bringing excitement back into the program.

Great win for Prestonsburg. Hats off to this coaching staff man. They’ve taken a lot of heat since each of them were brought on, but they keep showing out and bringing the old school blackcat grit back into a program which in my opinion was on it’s death bed. These players play with heart and give 100%. Prestonsburg’s future is bright! I think the floor for them is 8-2 now, and no one thought that was even possible. Thought it all year, but the secondary definitely needs some work.. they’ve got the athletes. Looking forward to a big district matchup next week.

At the beginning of the season there were questions as to how many wins this team would have. Now I think the question is: is it possible that Prestonsburg finishes the regular season undefeated? What a turnaround in one year.

Betsy Layne is going to be fine. They have a great feeder system going for the first time in school history. They are keeping more and more of their talent, which was a major problem in the past. The Bobcats are trending up and as long we can keep this coaching staff, which I think we can, the future is bright. GO BOBCATS!!!

Who beats them? Martin and Breathitt are really the only two that have the ability to do so but I’m not sure Prestonsburg isn’t considered the favorites in every game they have left.

Logan is a flipping beast. I don’t think he gets enough praise from game to game. He’s always in the backfield stuffing runs or pressuring the QB.

Kain is just a menace. Probably the spark plug on the team with his play and overall personality. I just love this whole team, man. All kids I’ve watched grow up and now laying it on the line for my Alma mater. Does it get any better than that?

Fun game to watch and I kinda hate to say it but both teams need to work on D just a bit... Many, many missed and broken tackles, some missed assignments and defenders in the open field just looked lost on both sides.. I think they get some of the D miscues cleaned up they could both be dangerous.. That said Mccutheon and Harris were just tough to catch and hold on too and basically did what they wanted last night..

Because it was dumb, stupid and ridiculous to make the claim that because a coach took a vacation in the month of June, during the offseason, after school got out that it was going to hurt the team.

Where are those clowns now, they hiding up their mommas backside counting corn kernels.

More coach wins, more vacation time he earns.

You have them as favorites over Martin and breathitt?

Possibly Martin but Martin Has played a much tougher schedule IMO an it should show Friday night.  I think it will be a battle. Coach Hager has coached those boys for the past several years and I’m sure emotions will be high from both teams.  Pburg for sure has some momentum on their side.

Breathitt on the other hand I don’t believe Martin or Pburg can beat them this year.

For the most part, I thought Prestonsburg played very good defensively. Lots of tackles for loss, Parsons was pressured as soon as he dropped back, coverage was good for the most part. Mccutcheon is just really good and very slippery. I do think fatigue and being up a couple of scores allowed for some quick TD drives in the second half for the Bobcats.

Open field tackling and pursuit angles need improved upon. Pass coverage could use some work too, but this defense has been pretty good all season all things considered.

The Blackcats proved they were the more disciplined and more talented team. Let's be real, Betsy Layne is a one man show! As talented as McCutcheon is, he couldn't do it all. He played a hell of a game, but as I said earlier, their offense is too predictable. Outside of McCutcheon, Betsy Layne lacked speed and athleticism. They had some big strong kids, but they were slow and lacked basic fundamentals. I thought Betsy Layne would dominate the trenches, but Prestonsburg more than held their own, with speed and technique. If Jarrell and the Bobcats are going to make a strong showing in the playoffs, they have to clean a lot of silly penalties up, and they have to get others involved offensively. I'm a Jarrell fan, but that Betsy Layne team wasn't very well coached.

Prestonsburg's defense had the "bend but don't break" mentality. They struggled at times, but they made enough big stops to put the game out of reach late in the fourth. Their were a lot of kids who played well on the defensive side of the ball, but Logan Stumbo was a man on a mission. Offensively, you can't say enough about Harris and Elliott. Both were electric, and Betsy Layne just couldn't match up with either. Harris is probably the most underrated player in the area, and Elliott's speed is unmatched. The offensive line played well and I liked how Hager managed the game. Overall, it was a team effort and Prestonsburg keeps impressing me week after week. I'm not going to lie, I thought this was going to be a 3-4 win season, but as mentioned earlier, they have a shot to run the table. The toughest tests of the year await with Martin and Breathitt, but both are winnable games. Regardless, this has been a season to build on, and Hager and the Blackcats have breathed life back into the program and town. It feels like it did in the 90's and early 2000's, and as a former player and alumni, I know I can't be more excited. Hail Blackcats.

Was hoping this game would live up to the hype & expectation surrounding it, and boy did it.

Said from the get go that Pburg would have a shot if they could contain the Mccutcheon kid, they did that early on, but he is a great player, and the great ones figure it out, and he got his as the game went on.

If I'm not mistaking, Pburg didn't even attempt an official pass, one incompletion on a 2 point conversion. Had 64 rushes I think it was, you could tell that BL D-line was wore down and Pburg took advantage. Harris & Elliott literally willed them, Elliott had some bruiser type runs late in the game when he is more of a finesse type player. Trenches was definitely won by the Blackcats, it was so back and forth in the 2nd half, but the defense bent but didn't break, they made some big time stops when they needed to. Penalties really killed BL, they had some bad ones like they did in the Floyd Central game.

Vibes are definitely high in Prestonsburg, and like I've said before it's always fun to see them having success, it's been a long time since they have, and they have the right coaches and continuing to establish a culture that will keep it going for years to come. Tough test coming up against a solid Martin Co team with a lot riding on it, district and maybe even a home playoff game or 2? Should be another fun one Friday night.

But congrats to Prestonsburg on a huge W.

That was a big take away in this game. BL’s defense was on the field A LOT! By the 4th they looked extremely tired. I Thought the Blackcats did a good job with ball control and clock management.
