In Russell’s heyday….they had big strong kids from upper middle class families that worked hard in the weight room. They ran the wing t, and it suited their demographic. They were tough and physical and did not beat themselves. I heard Ivan once at a rules clinic challenge Julian Tackett and ask him when officials were gonna STOP letting teams cut his pullers. He said-“we work hard in the weight room and it is unfair for weaker teams to cut our kids, instead of playing football and taking on blockers!” Which….i did use this technique; as I was coached to do(LOL), and knew exactly what he was talking about.

Are the kids that different there now?

^^^yes. The kids at Russell are different now. They are nowhere near what they were. Russell had a helluva a lot of gym rats and kids that pushed a lot of weight around. They have some really hard working and tough ass freshman that remind me a lot of the kids they used to have, but that’s about it. Their feeder program is extremely weak right now as well.

I've never accused them of it. I'm stating how funny it is that someone who openly denies other accusations of recruiting, will get on here and tell Russell kids to "COME ON DOWN" and leave Russell lol.

It's sad, but Russell's downturn as a football program is squarely on Russell and nobody else.

Honestly, just about anything should've been done to make Garry Morris the head coach when Coach McGlone stepped down, with Lance Davis as his successor after the fact. Kids loved playing for Garry and Lance is well-respected with a great knowledge for the game as well. Every team Coach Morris has a big hand in at Russell (whether it was football as a defensive coordinator or girls basketball as an assistant), they win a lot of games because Coach Morris cares about all the kids no matter what their name is.

He may have not taken it anyway and I would've respected his decision not to, but Russell should've at least explored that option.

I wish it had been better during my time there. Certainly feel responsible for part of the downturn.

Outside of football which really isn’t important in the grand scheme of things Raceland is inferior to Russell as a school system in most areas. If going to a school just for a good football program is the primary motivation then priorities need to be reexamined.
