Boyd Co 56 Bracken Co 6

Great to see Coach Lee Evans (former player for Ashland and assistant coach for 13 seasons) get a win in his first game as a head coach (even if it is against a subpar team) after being passed over so many times for a head coaching position. I think he will really turn around the program out at "Da County." Congrats Coach Evans. I sure wish we still had you in Tomcat Maroon instead of Lion Red.

Tomcat, do you know anything about boyd county?? because i sure dont. are they going to be a solid team or is this win against a very very poor bracken county team?

The Boyd County program for the last several years have had tons of talent but between their overloaded coaching, poor support of the school and administration (from what I hear), and poor support from parents, and problems with players from the Ramey-Estep home, their teams have fallen to pieces by the midway point. Last year they put the only blimish on 2A state championship Russell's record when they beat them 33-14 (if I remember correctly.)

With Coach Evans in the head position, this team will start heading in the direction in my mind. Coach Evans is an incredible person that commands respect and deservingly so.

As for this win actually being a sign for a solid season, only time will tell. I hate to ever knock a team but Bracken Co is just terrible (Boyd handled them 80-12 last season). They're a very young program with lots of growing pains to still contend with. I do expect them to be much improved this season after falling to pieces last season even if they did lose a lot of talent. Give another year or two and I believe they'll be right on par with Ashland, Mason Co, and Johnson Central when contending for a district title.

Good deal Tomcat....so it looks like the Boyd county- Sheldon Clark match up next week should be a good game to watch.

I would agree. You'll see a huge change in the Boyd Co offensive philosphy going from a spred it out fun and gun type offense, to a team that will want to run it every play of the game if they can. From what the ADI said, their playing a 3-5 type of defense. That should be interesting to see as well.
