The best overall team in the state having to travel 3.5 hours in the semis would definitely  not be a good look for the RPI system. The out of state opponent percentage is what has to be fixed. In 2024 it’s just lazy to count those all as a .500 WP. Anyone with internet, Microsoft excel, and an hour of free time could calculate an out-of-state opponent’s WP, OWP, and OOWP. Only thing needed to figure out would be the weight given to classification and that doesn’t seem like it would be splitting atoms.

That's how I have things figured right now.

Last year #1 Boyle Co vs #2 Corbin in the state rankings play each other in the 3rd round of the playoffs. Some how in the RPI ranks have Boyle Co #3 and Corbin #4. that game was 21-14 Boyle Co. then the next week went to play RPI #2 Franklin Co, Boyle won 41-14, and the championship again #1 RPI Cov Cath that Boyle Co destory 41-0 in the championship. Corbin would have beat both od these team also.

Everyone has a knee jerk reaction at the first RPI every year. Facts is everything will separate itself in 7 weeks. Most times the best 2 teams have played in the finals for each class. Few blowouts in the finals with the current RPI system. I do think you need to count out of state opponents different.

Agree 100%.  I believe Haddix is not afraid to take his squad anywhere in the playoffs.  He proved that last week taking his team to Cleveland to take on the #12th rank team in the country.

Could be worse. From what I have seen coming out of some “power rankings” out of Ohio, st. Edward’s is still first. They treat the Boyle game as if it didn’t happen. Talk about a slap in the face.
