Belfry at Pikeville 9/20

Belfry vs Pikeville. Thoughts?
#2
Belfry wins if they don’t turn it over. They just have to run the ball and we know they can do that. Pikeville has not shown an ability to stop the run. Corbin doesn’t place a premium on the run and likes to sling it around and Raceland doesn’t have a good line but JC and LCA shredded Pikeville on the ground. If Belfry thinks they are a passing team because they have had some success this year and try to do that, I think they’ll make some mistakes. Pikeville has some pass rushers and better players in their secondary than anyone the Pirates have faced. Belfry has a tendency for a fumble here and there as well. I think there is a time for them to throw but this game isn’t it. Belfry has the best offensive line Pikeville has faced and RBs to get the job done. If they keep it clean and run it, Pikeville won’t get enough stops to win. If Belfry play calling gets suspect or they have a couple of turnovers, Pikeville will beat them IF the Panthers have a good mix of run and pass on offense. Belfry is giving up a lot of points this year and their defense has some holes. Pikeville has a few playmakers but they need to be let off their leashes. This will be a physical game and I think Belfry is the more physical team this year. Pirates by 2-3 scores at Pikeville. I look for JJ Austin to have a big game and Ace Caudill to break one at some point for Belfry. I’ll say 35-21 Pirates.

Pikeville has struggled to put points up. Their offense relies on the big play with not a lot of consistency this year. Belfry is looking more like the Belfry of old offensively, but not quite there yet. If Pikeville can sustain drives and score they can keep this game respectable. If not I think Belfry takes it by 3 scores, minimum.

Like to see pikeville beat belfry but don't think it'll happen..
Belfry 2 touchdowns
#5
Id say Belfry in this one!
#6
Rival games can be tight despite who lost what players from the year before. Pirates by two scores.
#7
I am talking Belfry in this one neither team has a defense right now to brag about and I think Belfry’s offense is ahead of Pikeville and that’s my take

The question in this one is Anthony gonna get quite a few carries? If he does then Pikeville wins this one. If he get just a few then Belfry may break the streak.

Last Friday against Raceland was a good return to play for Brenden Anthony as he played the whole game on D and played a great game, but played sparingly on the O and had a great score in the meantime. I think he can add some points against belfry but maybe not enough. Hope im wrong but id give the W to Belfry this year.

Pikeville has Belfry's number... give me the Panthers at home, 34-26.

Anthony didn’t score last week against Raceland. He broke a big run but was caught. They don’t catch a healthy Brenden Anthony but he’s not healthy. He played a good defensive game and the limited touches on offense were impactful. I would guess he will be out or limited again this week. He went to sideline gimpy on a few occasions Friday.

Anthony doesn’t have to score for Pikeville to win, he can just get them in the red zone and I like there chances. I will give my take on the Raceland game later after work.

This is a tough one to call. Belfry's offense can be explosive with the emerging passing game that's improving by the day. However, Belfry can't tackle. Anthony, if healthy will be a load for the Pirates to bring down. Turnovers will play a role IMO. Not sure how this one will play out...but since the game is at Pikeville.....the Panthers get the edge.

BELFRY ON TOP. 35 may be back but he’s not at max potential. Belfry’s defense is LEGENDARY. I love me some panthers and their shenanigans but my loyalty lies in the PIRATES. We will be saved by the HOLY TRINITY OF HIGHSCHOOL FOOTBALL: chase varney, ace caudill, and bo wolford. Pikeville gonna be hitting the bottle after this loss i fear…

Belfry: 35-8

While the panthers have had a rocky start to the season, there is no doubt in my mind they will take the win this week. With Anthony being back, Belfry's offense does not stand a chance. Also, 14, 54, 57, 70, and 64 (the D-line) looked great against Raceland and I expect them to look even better this week. You can tell the Panthers have been putting in work. The offensive is getting better for the Panthers and Duty has been making progress with his passes. With this being a big rivalry game, I am very excited to see how it goes. Games like this could go either way but I have the panthers coming out on top.

Panthers 35
Pirates 28

Jet….there are a lot of posters making “noise”….but you really won’t see any Belfry followers following suit.  Folks that know the game realize Belfry’s defense has much to be desired.  At this point I hope it’s an injury free game.  Would love to see the Pirates break this 5 year streak of dominance….but it will be a tall task.

On paper, Belfry looks better. Raceland was completely blown away in their scrimmage against Belfry by at least 6 touchdowns. Johnson Central, at home, had a harder time winning against Belfry than against Pikeville at Hambley Field.

One thing though, this isn't paper; this is a rivalry. One that is looked upon with not only county bragging rights, but with respect for both programs. Both sides will play with more heart than you'll normally expect.

I'll be watching with my cowbell ringing and with loud whistling for Pikeville, but I expect this game to be a classic - a classic with all players from both sides leaving it all on the field. A game where Pikeville hopes to send Belfry back 25 miles east, as though it'll last twice that distance. A game where Belfry hopes to bring a shovel and avenge 5 years of losses to bury it all on that P at the 50 yard line.

Either way, I can't wait to see this game.

I think Belfry fans totally expect to win and rightfully so. Agreed, no injuries and a good game and I'm good.

I don't think so.   I think too many, like myself remember Anthony running thru our defense like a knife thru butter.   Hey....I would love to see it.....but I'm not convinced.  I hope my Pirates make me walk the plank.   Smile Smile Smile

Your right Belichick. My bad, i missed that one. That was a beautiful run he made down to about the ten? I don't think he would've been caught had he been at full strength though.

So where is this all-time series record at now?  One website I just checked has it at 39-39-2, but they also gave Beechwood the win vs Pikeville in the 1987 Pike Co Bowl which is obviously inaccurate.

Pikeville's offensive scheme has been lackluster all year. playing the wrong personnel... Belfry 35 Pikeville 21

Not sure about personnel because I don’t know of any stars being held out. They have several skill guys who are very close in ability and 1 skill kid who is hurt besides Anthony. That young man has been out all year with a broken collarbone. He’s a good player but he wouldn’t change their record. Pikeville has some important players growing up and playing better each week. That will be huge for them when it matters. I do think their scheme has been questionable at times especially the Johnson Central game. That was a stinker. After watching a replay of the Raceland game, it wasn’t much better. I still think Pikeville will break out.
