Final a fun game to watch. A good road win for Pikeville.

Umm boys hahaha
The last play Raceland ran was a pass thrown out of bounds and the refs marked it for a 8 yard gain hahaha. Damnnnnn hahaha

After tonight I think the Raceland faithful can agree that Waller needs to be the guy at QB moving forward. After that change was made it sparked a breath of fresh air on the offense.
Both teams still have a long ways to go but by the end of the season I expect them both to be on the thick of it again in the playoffs.

Personally I think both trams have a lot to work and Pikeville is got a whole lot more than Raceland but in my honest opinion neither one is very good but 1A seems to went down hill even farther than I thought

Both teams looked a shell of the teams they’ve had in the last few years, especially Pikeville. Pikeville seemed to be missing that edge they’ve had and lack that killer instinct they’ve had that would have put us away when it was 16-0. Pikeville won on the scoreboard but from a growth perspective I think Raceland came out ahead in this matchup.

Turnovers can create momentum, and if you give a team like Raceland new life, they will capitalize, and almost did.

Pretty impressive how Raceland played. While Anthony only played sparingly on offense, he played the entire game on defense. Waller came into the game and showed you what he can do as a sophomore quarterback. The Rams leading rusher is a sophomore, their leading receiver is a sophomore, and majority of their key players on both sides of the ball or sophomores as well. If you would have told me that this game would finish like it did, I would have never believed you. Pikeville had way more experience and much more speed and size and I’m actually kind of blown away that Raceland fought back in the second half like they did. I fully believe if they would’ve had two more minutes or so on the clock, they would have won that game.

This is still a very young Raceland team and for me the determination to keep fighting against a team that had them on the ropes and not getting knocked out was what I was most proud of.

If we ever figure out how to not give up the big play then maybe we won’t have the pressure on us late in the game. Go all the way back to last December. You lose a championship game to a team that never gets the ball inside your 35 yard line. Then fast forward to this year. If we make a tackle on third down they are punting and it’s 0-0 at half. If we play with a safety there’s now halfback pass for a touchdown. But there are alot of buts in a football game. We got our points off of Pikeville turnovers…does that cancel out?? Idk but until we stop the big play we will always be playing behind. Make no mistake though… pikeville makes the big played with good athletes.(09-13-2024, 11:34 PM)Patriot1 Wrote:For me I was more proud of the Raceland kids for not rolling over and giving up after getting down 16-0. The Rams need to keep this qb change and let the Weller kid grow. Ison needs to be on the filed as a slot or maybe at running back .

Pikeville will have to figure out a way to get Anthony 5-10 Carrie’s a game if they want to 4-peat. I’m lost as to how that Pikeville team threw for 360 against LCA. I figured we would get torched. If not for 35 that game goes to Raceland. His run and one missed tackle. As I said in the prediction thread, Pikeville isn’t the team they were last year with out 35 and this year it’s the same deal and if they aren’t careful, he gets hurt and can’t play defense they are really screwed. Anderson is tough and led them in tackles last year, but Anthony draws so much attention. Screwed is t the right term bc Mac and company are a great staff. But tonight it looked like their only adjustment was give 35 the ball. I think Raceland came away from this game with more upside than Pikeville. That being said, the sad part of it all is with their schedules, I will be shocked to see them play again AFTER the semis. Maybe even sooner. I haven’t looked at scores yet but the cupcakes the rest of 1A eats…it doesn’t look good as both teams have 2 more probable losses. On the schedule.
Raceland was also down a starting OT tonight and has been without their best WR and DB all season.

Again like JP said, Raceland doesn’t lose because of lack of confidence. They aren’t beating Pikeville in the playoffs this year. If you think they will, bring a large sack of money to the game.
09-14-2024, 02:25 AM
long year..... 22 starters on each side and every one of them is capable of tearing a knee or ankle and changing everything........ learn from tonight and see what happens in november..... congrats panthers and congrats raceland on your moral victory
09-14-2024, 08:10 AM
I came home feeling pretty okay with the moral victory. Felt like our young team competed extremely hard and didn’t lay down. Penalties gotta get cleaned up and the switch at QB was huge. It’s not an easy thing to do, but if Ison can keep his head right, him going back to WR makes is just as much of a boost to the offense as Waller was last night. not only does he do all the things good WRs can do in the passing game, but he blocks really well.
Moving forward, Raceland has a lot of upside. We are young almost everywhere and currently have 2 significant starters dealing with injuries. I look for both the injuries to be healed up by NCC or Hazard games and that should give us a pretty good amount of time to get things rolling going into district play. The offense has a lot of potential to be pretty dynamic with Waller at QB.
My Pikeville assessment…
They have talent everywhere. They have dudes that Raceland does not have, especially at the skill positions. That being said, I watched last nights game objectively as possible and this Pikeville team, while really good, and definitely passing the eye test, is missing something. Are they good enough to 4-peat? Yes, without question. Are they good enough to get it mailed in to them? Not by a long shot. Not without Anthony getting more than 1 or 2 touches on offense. They need to diversify, but if he goes down, they are very vulnerable.
A lot of people around the league thing this game going the way it did makes 1A wide open. I think it still a 3 horse race with Pikeville, Raceland, and Campbellsville.

Raceland will see NCC and Hazard on the field within the next 3 weeks. This will give a pretty good idea as to how good those teams area.
As for the Pikeville fans saying last night shouldn’t have been close, I actually agree with you. It shouldn’t have been close and after the game was 16-0 I thought the game was going to be a running clock. For whatever reason though Pikeville took their foot off the gas, made some boneheaded mistakes and Raceland almost made them pay for it.
This Pikeville team is good and full of talent no doubt but as Scotty said something is missing. They seem to be missing the toughness that the teams they’ve had in the past had. You could see in their body language after the momentum swung in Raceland’s direction that this is a team that doesn’t handle getting punched in the mouth well.
Pikeville may have gotten the win but as a coach I would have left that game knowing that my team has a lot of intangibles to work on especially if they are going to win another championship.

Takeaway for the Rams is them not giving up after being down 16-0. 13 unanswered is huge for them moving forward.

I sat at home flipping livestreams from Raceland, Ashland, and Greenup County. I haven't gone back and watched the entire game but my initial impressions are that both of these teams may struggle to make it back to Kroger field. I'm definitely not a great source of info concerning the other top 1A teams so as always, I may be wrong. Definitely proud of the young Rams for not laying down when the game was on the verge of getting out of reach.
09-14-2024, 11:44 AM
These two teams will make it back to Kroger. These are the best two teams in class A. Hard to tell about the rest. Sayre continues to play nobody. so far every team that campbellsville has played is winless. The pretenders in the Louisville are continue to play their RPI schedule. Meanwhile Pikeville and Raceland play tough schedules and lose some games and everyone wants to write them off.
09-14-2024, 11:51 AM
I definitely think they’re the two best programs in 1A. Just not convinced YET that they’re the two best teams. I do agree that playing a tough schedule on the front end definitely pays benefits on the back end. So hopefully the storehouse is full come playoffs and both Raceland and Pikeville make it back to Kroger.

I think Ramdad said it best in regards to the Covid players cycling out. Last night actually looked like 2 high school teams going at it. These past few seasons have been legit grown men playing football and it is easy to forget what the kids playing 1A ball looked like before the Covid holdbacks.

I was really impressed with Raceland for several reasons. They look good and have a higher ceiling this year being so young with all the new faces in starting roles.
