Heard that last summer he had 4 that were going to play minutes tried to leave and him and the assistant Messer threatened them with KHSAA and vowed they would sit for a full year. I know one of them called the bluff and left with no repercussions. My opinion only but I believe he is one of the worst coaches in the region and treats players badly. Good luck to them though.
Valentine is a straight up liar… He’s a walking condom commercial…I was just told less than five minutes ago that a kid transferred into North last year and played basketball from Pulaski County. Kid wants to play football I’m told and may have even practiced with football team a day or two this spring. I’m told Valentine told him not to play football and made him stop.. IF this actually transpired and I was football coach I’d resign immediately. Imagine having a basketball coach who doesn’t want football players on his basketball team..Hearing Coach Davis at South may have an experienced assistant on his bench this season that was a star player at Corbin. Davis and Hines gonna own Northside of town in basketball and football.. Someone mentioned on here Valentine is best asset South has for recruiting purposes. I’m beginning to think that person is correct..
On that subject, I'm hearing that North had one transfer to South for bball, the Stokes kid. He is a very good offensive rebounder.

Cause he did what he was told and that’s to keep certain names on the court and others on the bench..how is it Trent Noah enrolls at North during summer between sophomore and junior year and plays summer ball for the prick and ends up going back to Harlan County before school started. Then another big time transfer in Chadwell from KC enrolls at North and helps Shepherd take the Jags to State Tourney. Lose in first round and Chadwell back to KC along with Rawlings to South Laurel. Common denominator is none other than Valentine who plans to continue playing kids whose parents are highly political connected people. It’s not about doing the right thing nor playing your best players under Valentine because if you don’t fit in the agenda you want see playing time no matter how hard you work. He’s screwed over so many kids and yet the administration keeps him around because of who’s coming up the system next few years. Long story short Valentine is a POS and once a turd always a turd….

Sorry they where only ranked 6th in the region preseason by Cats Pause and had two D1 athletes. But the point was that South can play uptempo teams and sometimes come out on top. Yes they value possessions and play slowdown ball but if they win the 13th next season they have a chance to make some noise, much like HC did last season. Everything depends on the draw for just about every mountain team.

Not sure Harlan County could have had a much worse draw in the first round with the 4th Region. You had the defending state champ in Warren Central and Bowling Green was one of the top 10 teams in the state. I've seen 13th Region teams lose in the first round with much easier draws.

Warren Central was just a avg team last year

Warren Central wasn't as good as the year before, but the 4th Region is still a tough draw. Bowling Green was one of the few teams that had beaten Harlan County this season, but they were upset in the regional. Newport was one of only two teams ranked above HC in the tournament field, but they lost to Campbell County in the first round.
Tough draw, but they got some help along the way.

Anyone who thought the 4th was an easy draw didn't see the same Bowling Green team that I saw three to four times. Ritter would have been a major problem for any Mountain team and definitely capable of winning the entire tournament. Warren Central was no pushover either; they had some losses early but injuries at key positions really effected them during that span.

Aside from Great Crossing, Lyon County, a healthy Trinity, a healthy Newport, or arguably Ashland, Spencer County, or Evangel (who Harlan County beat), there's no way that you could say that it could have been worse.

Just me, but if you look at last year's draw going into the tournament, the only places that you could flip Harlan County with someone else and say that they were worse would be to just match them up with Great Crossing, Lyon County, Trinity, or Newport from the jump.

Newport's injuries were the type you really couldn't overcome; it would have been similar to Lyon County losing Perry. Trinity had some kids banged up, but Harlan County has a much smaller talent pool and having a starter with a broken wrist was much harder on them than what Trinity had to overcome if we're just comparing talent.

I agree the 4th region was wayyyyyy down compared to recent years but HC specifically Noah stepped up in a big way regardless of who they played. And I agree that most mtn teams have 1 really good player versus a team of really good players from the larger areas. When you make it to Rupp there are NO EASY GAMES.

Interesting…Don’t the Akin’s kids dad sit on bench with Coach P?

Is Johnny Crawford his daddy?   Why, exactly, is Crawford on the bench?  Kick him off!!!!

Corbin is likely to add 5' 10" Sophomore PG , Mason Salmons . He averaged 11 ppg for the Cabell Midland Frosh team last season. He'll be a nice addition.

I hate that kids do not have any team or school loyalty anymore and move around so much
like they do nowadays. I also hate that these BB coaches are so hard on the kids who want
to play dual sports & make it so hard for them, many quit basketball especially & go with
the coaches of other sports who encourage them to play whatever sport they want to play.
Our sports in high school overlap each other so much now, you are still playing football
sometimes and basketball has started & same with baseball, basketball is still going on when
baseball has started. Seems like these coaches are shooting themselves in the foot not making
it easy for these big strong football players to be on a basketball team. I have noticed the BB
coaches that encourage their football players to play have better teams many times.

Does anybody know anything about OBI picking up several new basketball players for the upcoming season? I know millions have been spent there on new campus facilities. I saw pictures of their soccer complex, and it's amazing. I've always wondered why they aren't more competitive in boys' and girls' basketball, where they could get kids from all over the nation. I'd heard over the past week that's about to change, that they are loading up on ballers and will definitely be a contender to win every game they play. Has anyone seen them play any summer ball?

OBI went 16-7 this summer and had several wins over some solid teams. Appears as if they are a team on the rise.

Who is the best team they beat? I saw a lot of ball this summer and didn’t hear they were out at all? Easy to pad wins when you don’t play anyone

I'd guess Bell County, but I think Burnett was still with baseball. They played Pineville down to the wire, I think. I'm guessing OBI or Pineville will be the early All A favorite in 2025.

Wins over Bell Co. (without Burnett), Knott Co. Central, Knox Central (2x), Estill Co., Williamsburg and a 2 point OT loss to Pineville

Knox and Knott are good wins. I hadn't heard those.

Corbin Football is always #1 in 13th Region period. 95% of all basketball and baseball players play football..You’ll find Corbin has more two and three sport athletes than any other program in Region. Success breeds success…The one sport school/program is on the downward spiral as kids and parents want a great athletic competition experience in school..

I’m not from the 13th Region but I agree with your assessment. Corbin offers a broad range of sports with great facilities and also is one of the best academic schools in the state. Those two aspects are big magnets to attract talent from all surrounding counties and sometimes beyond. They are going to be relevant in all sports nearly every year.
Hazard is very similar in our region, albeit on a smaller scale. The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs are always competitive even though their 9-12 enrollment is barely 300.

I would have to agree with this, him and his assistant Messer are one of a kind people…

I will say it will interesting when NL and SL plays this season. Given that most of the South team knows about what was said by those two coaches regarding a player of Souths getting hurt I really believe this could wind up being a very emotional game with NL players taking a complete a$$whipping because of their coaches. Not to mention Corbin is looking forward to playing North because of some issues from last season as well. Valentine is def not very well thought of by most of the 13th.......

It is not a transfer but what is the latest on the CC saga and the Bundy kid getting granted an additional year?

Would be amazed if this happens given the reasoning. Still won't change the top 2 in the 13th if it happens. KHSAA has been know to make illogical decisions but would be an amazing stretch even for them

If he gets eligible that will change Khsaa athletics permanently.

If both of these kids do, in fact, suit up  for P's Hounds once football season is over, it might be time to start throwing Corbin into the mix with South and Harlan Co for the 13th's best in '24-25.

It may move them up to 4th or 5th but that’s it in my opinion. People don’t realize how much P lost from last year in my opinion. Region runs thru HC or SL barring injury.

I was told today that a team in the 51st just got A LOT better if it is true it will be a big blow to a former power house in the region.

Hmmmm will have to be KC or Pineville, I don't think adding to Pvilles 2 headed monster will be a LOT better because the pieces around those 2 are pretty weak. So who has transfered into KC?

considering we are dealing with children I don’t want to get on here and blast some kids name unless I hear it from a reliable source. I was asking to see if anyone else heard anything but obviously your the type to run a kids name through the mud and not know if it’s true or not. Not trying to be a “insider” you jackass my life has more substance than that.

Considering the recent Calamity at Clay County which I won't address(Wymt if you don't know), I am hearing from multiple sources that Roark is looking at either NL or a return to Williamsburg. Has anyone else heard anything?
