Very good game by both teams and you don’t see a 13-7 score very often. Russell County and Somerset always play each other close and the Jumpers got the Lakers once again . Lakers will play at home next week vs South Laurel.

Coach French is making great strides. If they can keep the local talent at home, Russell County can build something special.
Saw pictures of the new stadium and Russell County should be very proud of what they have upgraded. Wow!
Did I read it right that it was a goal line stance on 4th down in OT for Somerset to win?? That’s crazy

The Lakers had a good game plan and were able to execute it week enough to give themselves a chance to win. They tried to control the clock by using the whole play clock between snaps. They just couldn't generate enough offense to pull off the upset. The game was delayed by weather about 2 minutes into the contest. When the game resumed Russell County was able to finish off their opening drive with a touchdown. They really didn't threaten to score after that until overtime. The Briar Jumpers moved the ball well at times, but left about 24 points on the field due to some self-inflicted errors. They had a pass go off of a receiver's hands that was intercepted around the Lakers 30. On another drive into Russell County territory they fumbled after getting a first down. The ball popped straight up in the air and the Lakers came to with it. At the end of the first half, Somerset had the ball inside the Lakers 10 with under 15 seconds to go. But they bobbled a snap when trying to spike the ball, and weren't able to get the field goal team on the field. Then, in the 4th quarter, already in field goal range inside if the last 2 minutes, they had a snap go over the quarterback's head. Just a lot of small, correctable mistakes that luckily didn't cost them a loss. Russell County played a very nice game defensively, and are noticeably improved. They also have a great new facility.
