I really would like to hear from more people on this issue than just my good friend, Jetpilot(who doesn't want me around his family because he says I'm dangerous... lol) Whether you live in Hazard, Russell Springs, Bowling Green, or Louisville, you see evidence of the homeless problem every single day. Where do you fall on the issue of the homeless?  Should they be run off from public streets, parks, grocery stores, diners and truck stops?  Should they be arrested and taken to jail? How about shot and killed for wandering upon private property? 

When you see a homeless person , do you hand them money, buy them a sandwich, or look the other way? I'll be honest, as a good progressive , sometimes I feel bad for not handing out cash but there seems to be a lot of homeless who also fight addition, and I hate to contribute to furthering an addiction. But buying them food or other items is something that seems wholly benevolent and worthwhile. I would imagine the first century lib, JC(Jesus Christ) would concur. 


HB5, The partisan Republican-led  bill, which some call the Safer Kentucky Act, but others call the Dehumanization Act takes a tough approach to the homeless. It takes an outdated, disproven, tough-on-crime approach to public safety by delivering harsher punishments, mandating longer sentences, making it impossible for homeless people to find a place to sleep, and many other provisions that will have far reaching consequences for everyday people.  Some feel the most heartless part of the bill, the "Shopkeeper's Privilege" provision ,  is a provision that criminalizes homelessness and makes it easier for a homeless person to be murdered. It  grants store owners the authority to use any level of “reasonable” force they deem “necessary” to apprehend suspected shoplifters.

I'm sure that, like me, you see these people on an almost daily basis. I know in Corbin, you can't go to certain floor areas of the hospital after about 8 pm because homeless people had started to flock to certain areas to sleep. I go to a local fast food restaurant/gas station pretty often to have coffee and get some work done. I see many homeless regulars there all the time ,. hanging out, sleeping at the tables inside the restaurant. Do you have any thoughts on how to best alleviate this problem?  I doubt if shooting and killing them for stealing a candy bar is the best way to deal with the problem. I don't think the GOP's HB5 would be Jesus' solution to the homeless problem.

Another cut and paste job from an ultralib publication opinion piece and you still didn't cite examples from the bill that back up your stance or suggest any solutions. I would give a 5th grader a "D-" if they turned this in but as usual you get A's in deflection, virtue signalling and BS.

Over the last 10 to 15 years I’ve offered almost everyone of the homeless I encounter a job, especially the ones standing around holding signs….Had an extremely hard time finding people to work so I’ve offered to train them, help them get on their feet, and pay a very competitive wage….I’ve had two take me up on the offer one worked just long enough to cabbage enough money together for dope and the other has been with me over a decade….Has keys to my home all my businesses and even comes to my home on the holidays….Im willing to help any man that wants to help himself but I’m not willingly giving anyone a free handout….Ive got no problem with you old school I’d just like to know one nation with Socialist / Progressive policies that’s flourishing?

Rally for Housing in Corbin hosted by the Progressive Labor Party - Kentucky. It’s scheduled to start on Friday, 30 August 2024, at Sanders Park, Corbin, KY. 3:00 pm, I believe, is the starting time. For those not familiar with downtown Corbin, Sanders Park is right across the street from the Freeman brothers law offices. The PLP is protesting the Freemans' predatory real estate practices.

I don't think HB5 is gonna help the homeless situation. The state has a billion coconuts to put into crap like HB5 that but they can't put more money into public education  and affordable housing.

Btw, I have no issues with jet , Hound or anyone else on any issue. I just wanted to know what everyone felt about the issue and what might be some possible solutions.  You have a right to feel the way you do, as do I.  Hound, I appreciate you doing what you've done to try to help those who need work. It's a shame that some won't take advantage of an opportunity that is given them . In a lot of cases, the homeless are caught up in addictions, which just exacerbates their problems.

I know there are some good people who vote against their own self-interests and vote GOP but, let's face it, the elephants, in general, look cruel and unusual when it comes to how they view homeless folk.

What are your feelings on what we can do to help the homeless situation?  I have been told by people looking for somewhere to rent that the waiting list for HUD is long , even when someone reach the top of the list , they are having trouble finding a rental. One of the reasons are people like the  Tiptons and Freemans are buying up all the rentals and then renting them at prices that are unaffordable for many. It is exacerbating an already bad problem. I appreciate guys like Hound who have tried to help the homeless. I think some are sympathetic to the plight of the homeless but others have made it clear that they have nothing but disdain for these poor people.  If Jesus did, in fact, exist, these are the kind of people that he, according to the Bible, had the most compassion for. What would Jesus do?

You never did cite any language in the bill that backs up your gibberish. Or gave TD Hounds examples of socialism/communism ever being successful. Or why taxpayers can't fund private schools when we already spend more on education per pupil than any country in the world and 95% of pubic (government) schools are a dismal disgrace.

Clintons, Biden/Harris, Obamas, Pelosi, Gavin Newsom and most other prominent Dems all sent their kids to private school yet all are against school choice. Shocker (not). Hypocrisy is the Dem specialty.

If you really want to solve the homeless problem in Corbin have them change their names to Hector or Habib, bus them all to the southern border and let them walk back into the US and ask for asylum. Joe and Kommie-la will fly them anywhere they want to go, give them free iphones, free housing, free medical, free college, and monthly debit cards. They will probably go to NY or CA where shoplifting isn't prosecuted. Probably make some serious money at the border smuggling kids and fentanyl in too.

What’s causing the problem? Because it’s rampant everywhere. I live in Raceland a few miles from Ashland and they are everywhere. Didn’t used to be like that. Can’t blame it on any one parties policies either. Because neither party has come up with a solution to homelessness or immigration .
