Two teams that have a very possible, maybe not likely, chance of playing in the 3rd round scrimmaging eachother is odd to me. If the RPI plays out accordingly what’s better film on an opponent than your own team lined up against them?

The EKC assigns these scrimmages.  Not sure the teams have any say.  I know LC drew Fairview a couple years ago and neither team was particularly happy about the matchup.

The EKC is a total waste. It is political and very skewed to benefit some while others suffer. The matchups rarely ever make sense. It is an outdated unnecessary dinosaur.

I don't ever seen an extra scrimmage before regular season being "unnecessary"

It doesn’t give you an “extra” scrimmage. Everybody gets two; unless I’m completely ignorant of KHSAA scheduling rules.

Your not that ignorant,
Just saying, the scrimmage you call an "outdated dinosaur" is definitely  not "unnecessary"
