- - - > Jenkins 24, Twin Valley 12.

Players : Cavs 26, TV 24.

TV's D wasn't up to snuff on the left side, so it could have been worse. Or closer, since TV had an early TD off a reverse called by.

Have no CLUE who Playboy 4 thought he was playing (since no LPD team was 4-6 last year), but TV went 2-8 in the Black Diamond last year. Don't think ALL of their players are back, but they do return a lot, look big, and should do better this year.

- - - > Phelps 20, Hurley 0

Players : Hornets 32, Rebs 25.

Hornets QB has a great pitch that allowed him to become a blocker.
He'll be fun to watch this year.

Rebs could see big things from the little guy - at 5' 5", Gary Blankenship could be hard to find out of the backfield, but he didn't have a high gear tonight.

- - - > East Ridge 12, Grundy 12

Players : Warriors 44, Wave 32.

Wave failed to score with the game's opening possession, then next 4 possessions led to TD's, followed by an extra-long scoring drought.

Grundy used 3 diff. QB's. Most of the passes were short & crisp. Kaleb Smith started and wasn't afraid to throw some blocks. Lots of pad-popping in the nightcap.

ER looked pretty good runnin' the wing (which I've not seen in a LONG time), but didn't mix it up too much - 3 or 4 reverses and about as many passes. Late penalties (a pick at the goal line by #11 as time expired) kept them from getting the win.

Stats - not even! That's not what scrimmages are about.

This kid is only a sophomore... and the RB than ran quite a bit is a junior! Good luck to the blue this year!!!

I know a clip is a clip, and boy was that one obvious considering they clipped the boy who was getting ready to make the tackle!...My bad about the record, was just told that by a TV fan or parent before the game! I think a 2-8 KY team could go to VA and win 6-7 games!

I was sitting under the front corner of the press box with the Grundy film guy when that happened and I said
"(pause) are they gonna call that? (pause) Yep."
So I guess the refs and the parents were also in pre-season form; I just wish the PA guy had been, too. That may go over well when there's a full house on the home side, but not for a scrimmage.

The Black Diamond isn't nearly as tough top to bottom as the Lonesome Pine, but that's mainly because the BDD has no middle (8 teams in LPD, 4 in BDD), and there are some exceptions.

Last year, TV was the only BDD school that had a non-district loss, and Haysi made the state semis.

The 2000 Honaker team played in the state finals, and their QB played in the Super Bowl last year.

Grundy was the only SWD team that had more than 1 non-district loss, and Richlands made the state finals.

About 6 wins - it really depends on who you schedule. Last year, Hurley (8-2) played 3 weak WV teams and breezed by them, but BARELY beat TV (2-8).
Grundy was expecting a 6-win season (even playing 3 state semi-finalists : Haysi, Richlands & WV champ Bluefield), but fell way short of expectations due to Aug/Sept. injuries.

I would love to see more match-ups between "good" teams, like Pikeville or Belfry vs.
Grundy or Haysi, instead of seeing SV & BL all the time. But at least Grundy-Paintsville
and Haysi - ER are history.

Belfry and pikeville would EAT those 2 teams, and that is just the way it is my bordering neighbor!
#14
OK id say u could put haysi and grundy together and belfry would still beat them, ive seen all 3 teams play. And when u get KY's border andVA's border KY def. wins

Playboy5 and player, the both of you are so full of it the whites of your eyes are brown....Pikeville nor Belfry could up till last year couldnt hold Grundy a light to go by but if you still wanna whip up on the good old boys in Va go pick on Richlands and theyll shag your ass real good..2-8 ky team win 6-7 games in va..lmao...asfar as Kentucky football Vs Va football, Ky sucks..

We'll never know unless they'd have played.

Just for the fun of it, I went to the KHSAA/Riherds scoreboard and looked up some history.

2004 : East Ridge lost to Haysi by 42 and to Belfry by 55
2004 : Paintsville lost to Grundy by 56 and to Pikeville by 35
2003 : Paintsville lost to Grundy by 28 and to Pikeville by 35

Looks like we'd have seen some really good games, imho.
