Johnson Central 87 Pike Central 79 (15th Region 1st Round)
#1
Might wanna redo those brackets, boys.

Austin Slone with 38, Brayden Shepherd with 19.

Huge win for the young Eagles, goes without saying. Another Magoffin rematch awaits.

15th region might as well just roll over for the next 3 years. 4 freshman and a junior started tonight for Johnson Central and Slone was the best player on the floor as a freshman. Never count out a team coached by Tommy McKenzie st the EXPO

But also, Pike Central was vastly overrated all year. They rely on Rigdon and Stewart for everything and just hope they go off. Pike Central has only played one good team before tonight since February 3rd and that was Lawrence County so they were not battle ready for a team to come at them for 4 quarters with a good coach leading them.

Tommy “March” McKenzie strikes again. Slone will be a wild bull in a China shop in this region for the next three years. Tall, fast and strong. He’s worth the price of admission even at the Arena.

Once again Derrick Newsome loses to Pike Central at the EXPO. Oh wait! He was on the bench for PCC as they lost their first 1st round game in 4 years lol

Pike Central had their best shot to win region in a long time and out first game. Has to be disappointing if your a PC fan

Derrick Newsome has lived in your head rent free for years. He ain’t the head coach, this loss ain’t got nothing to do with him as a coach.

Did you all hear the Magoffin fans chanting we want JC? They better be careful for what they’re asking for.

Take it easy, it ain’t that serious! Congrats JC!

JC is a year ahead of schedule getting this far.  You’re right they will be good the next several years no doubt but there is plenty of talent to hang. Don’t think anyone will be rolling over.

Easy now. Paintsville loses 1 starter and has a slew of talented freshman on the bench too. Favorite the next 3 years based on current rosters and current skill levels, yeah sure. But roll over, not quite.

Betsy Layne will be very good next year, a lot of pieces on the move this summer. I’ll wait see how it all plays out before I decide about next year and who will be good. JC and PC both return a lot should be two leaders next year with Pikeville there two

JC shot the lights out tonight, good for them.

They are now 15-13, 10-8 in the 15th region. Nobody is throwing in the towel.

Sometimes games is all about matchups and Pike central didn’t have an answer for slone!

Luckily they got on this side of the bracket I think they would have had an early exit on the other side.

First and foremost, congrats JC on the huge win. This kids came out with a chip on their shoulder with nothing to lose and got after it. That makes 3 teams from the 57th District that will be playing in the Region Semifinals, thanks to this new format.

Remember when Paintsville knocked off the favorite Shelby Valley? Landon Slone and that group of boys were all 8th graders in that game, Slone had like 50 points. People said the same thing about them and what did we get, one region championship out of the next 4 years?

BL lost their leading scorer & about 7 other seniors. They got 2 players returning that played significant minutes. They chased a great young player off this year mid season. They have zero post players. Unless they get transfers, which never happens there, they are in trouble. They will give 35 to 40 per game in the paint per game.

The Tigers will be tough. Possibly the most underrated team in the 15th. No one will be able to match up down low against Woods & Cole. They are going to cause problems for a lot of teams.

If Paintsville keeps all there kids. I look for them to lose at least one of those freshman.

If paintsville keeps everyone an one of them get frustrated due to playing time/not starting where would they go? JC line up is set for the next 3 years no matter who transfers there.

Slone and Shep are both really good. There are a lot of kids that could come in there and start over the other kids imo. I don’t think they’ll get many transfers to JC but who knows.
