KHSAA Realignment plan for 2025-2026 season

Per the KHSAA article, both teams are rejoining. My statement was referring to the possibility of getting halfway through the season then one or both having to forfeit the remainder of the season due to not having enough players left to participate.
That's the district they are assigned to, I haven't seen anything that says they will compete in the district. Would not be in the best interest of either program to put it mildly. One would think they have to realize it.

If I was a Pikeville fan I’d hope they weren’t in the district. That would take up 2 games that will be running clocks first quarter that neither team benefits from playing

Dropping Ironton and Corbin and picking up Jenkins and Phelps would stink. Would be pretty much that scenario every year.

Belfry has chose to play up for most of those years. Mostly because 3A football since the late 2000s has been week and wide open with the exception of Central for a few years, and 2A football has been very competitive during that span.  Moving from 3a to 2a will hurt the Pirates chances at another championship anytime in the near future IMO.

Also RIP to the 4a District 5. Harrison, Grant, Mason and Holmes would have been a competitive District.  Making that a 6 team district with Highlands and Cov Cath makes it a tough year for those 4. On a side note, if I'm Cov Cath or highlands I would request to play up to avoid having to go through Boyle to win a championship every year.
Actually ….for most of the time in 3A…Belfry’s male enrollment met the 3A parameters.  However….that hasn’t been the case just the past 2-3 seasons.   the numbers have dropped precipitously…..and many predicted that Belfry would decide to slide back to 2A.  IMO….most if not all of those championship teams Belfry had….would have won it in either class.  Those teams  in 2013-2016…and 2019 would have done quite well.  2021 may have been different.

Realignment is every 2-4 years and Belfry has chosen to play up in the last 3 I know. Im not saying they couldnt have won in 2a but the road to get there would have been tougher with Central Kentucky going to the east. They would have had to go through LCA just to get to Commonwealth.

Beechwood vs Belfry would be a very interesting matchup.
Beechwood would kill them, last couple of years anyway, and this year too

Beechwood is loaded this year! I only see one game they can lose this year in the regular season so they should have home field advantage!

Teams in 2A haven’t had to face a good option offense lately

Beechwood skill is loaded however. I’ll be attending the Beechwood Belfry game if it happens

Wrong.  Only until this past 2023 male count did Belfry actually  meet the criteria of playing in 2A.   Previous poster already showed the numbers.

When Belfry was the Belfry of old they could handle Beechwood. Question is will we ever see the Belfry of old again.

Jet….that is the $64,000 question.  Just not sure at this point in time.  My guess is this….when Haywood decides to retire….that coaching decision will answer your question.

Belfry didn’t play up this past season.  They played under the assigned realignment for the past two years.  You can’t change in the middle of the assignment period other than to drop out of district play.   The enrollment number pre-Covid were used for the most recent and current classification.  The next one is coming in 2025.  So No….they didn’t “play up”.  They played where there we assigned based on 2020 enrollment.  Move on.

Lawrence Co will be difficult to deal with.  But I’m guessing Letcher should lock up the 2nd position pretty easily.

Well they played up this past august.
Move on.

Well that's false, 2023 was a fresh alignment, the Board of Control voted to bring the 2025 alignment early and yes Belfry was classified as 2a .... https://khsaa.org/football/realignment/2...lments.pdf

and here is where they requested to play in 3a https://khsaa.org/2023-football-realignm...oundaries/

Carry on.
I'll eat crow when I'm wrong.  I prefer it with BBQ sauce.....

No, you have to play in your assigned classification level.
