Food Wars: Burgers
#1
Let's say you are driving and are craving a burger.  Your only choices are McDaonalds, Burger King, or Wendy's and you can only choose one.  Which do you choose and what do you order?
#2
I would go to Wendys and get a Dave's Double, a chilli, and a Hi C.
#3
Wendy's plain single with cheese, fries; my wife getting half of the fries, and water.

I can honestly say I have not eaten any thing from a restaurant in well over 6-8 years or more, but Jarons, you're a light eater.  That's not much food.
#5
Wendy's single with cheese; no pickles. I HATE dill pickles!!

Very soon McDonald's is supposed to have a menu change, and replace their hamburger meat and the way it is prepared. It's supposed to be more juicy and taste better. Time will tell.

I can't believe you, granny! DILL PICKLES !  My papaw used to can his own dill pickles. Saltiest things I've ever eaten... But SO GOOD!  I order extra pickles on my burgers. I like sweet pickles as well. I sometimes make my tuna salad with boiled eggs and sweet pickles(or relish).

As to the OP's question:

1. Wendys
2. BK

3. McDonalds

The biggest burger I ever ate was a  monster 1 pound burger from Fuddruckers.  The Atlanta Braves sells a burger at their ballpark for $151. It's made with a half-pound Waygu beef burger on a toasted, Irish-buttered brioche bun, topped with cage-free pan-fried eggs, gold-leaf-wrapped Hudson Valley foie gras, grilled cold water lobster tail, heirloom tomato, garden-fresh Bibb lettuce, Tillamook cheddar cheese and truffle aioli.  I haven't had one but I saw one on the Reds broadcast.

This burger, at De Dalton's diner in the Netherlands, will run you a tidy $6,000 .
It all starts with the patty, which is made from ground A5 Japanese Wagyu beef and chuck short ribs. It’s then topped with white truffles, Paleta Iberico Bellota ham, onion rings with Dom Perignon in the batter, Beluga cavier and king crab. All of this is between two halves of a saffron gold-leaf bun that also has some Dom in it. Even the condiments are luxe, as the burger is served with a barbecue sauce that counts Kopi Luwak coffee and Macallan single malt whiskey among its ingredients. It's called the "Golden Boy." I've not had one of those, either.

The biggest burger I have ever eaten was also from a Fuddruckers in Nashville back in the late 90's.  I had never eaten there.  My buddy, who I was visiting, ordered 2 of the burgers.  I knew I could eat more than him, so I ordered 2 of the huge burgers and a basket of fries.  We got looks as we were loading our burgers at the toppings bar.  I ate both of the burgers along with a lot of the fries.  That was the fullest I have ever been.  I didn't eating anything else for over 24 hours.

Did any of you do the Max and Ermas burger challenge? This was back before every restaurant had some type of challenge and before food challenges were cool.  I went to one in Lexington back in the early 90's along with a couple buddies.  They were wanting me to take the challenge, and they were going to back me on it.  I think, if I remember correctly, you had to eat 3 burgers.  If successful, you got a t-shirt and your picture on the wall, but I may be wrong.  Anyway, I told them I wanted to go there the day before to scout out the place and to try one burger because I had never eaten there before.  I finished one burger, but decided eating 3 would be very tough and not worth getting sick over, so I decided not to take the challenge.

Here is a link to a burger challenge that Billy Ray's in Prestonsburg has.   The burger is huge.  No normal person could eat that.

That guy is an absolute boss. I'd be lucky to get just one of those patties down.

Westie,  your feat of two Fuddruckers' big burgers back in the day was quite an accomplishment. How in the hell did you do that? No way I could have eaten that much.

I have 3 great nephews, who are much more like grandsons, that I witnessed take on two eating challenge. One of those challenges was a burger challenge, and the other was a 3 pound steak you had to eat with potato and salad. This was years ago in Gatlinburg. All three won both challenges. One of them, even ordered desert!! The steak challenge was more like a chuck roast!! LOL I might add that these boys were all football players. They weren't fat; just big!! The baby, the one that ordered desert, is 6'4" and his playing weight was 302. He ate that food and didn't bat an eye.

OSH, I cannot stand dill flavor! Still don't like it. I don't even want to smell it!

Every year, I make a batch or three of bread n butter pickles; the only pickle that deserves to be eaten. Maybe lime pickles too. But definitely not dill!! One of the best burgers I ever ate was from Fuddrucker's.

Can't go to Pigeon Forge or Myrtle Beach without a trip to Fuddrucker's for a big burger.

Back fifteen or twenty years ago my gf's family and I went to Myrtle Beach for a week. We did all of the seafood buffets in town, every single day while we were there. I LOVE seafood but at the end of the week stay I was dying for something other that shrimp, fish, or crab. I wanted a big, juicy hamburger.  After leaving MB, we stopped at a Wendy's a few miles down the road(maybe Florence, SC?) and  I ordered a Wendy's Triple, dressed with everything.  It was piping hot and that juicy grease was just oozing from every corner of those triple patties. Oh, my gosh, while it's not what my cardiologist would have recommended, it's exactly what I was craving. I devoured every last bite. So good!!!

I love B&B pickles, as well.  I guess you might say I just love pickles, period.

I know this is a burger thread but the talk about pickles made me think of pickled corn. Has anyone ever eaten it? My pawpaw canned pickled corn back when I was a kid. I HATED it back then. Now, I love it! It's definitely an acquired taste. We usually had it at holidays.

Oh, the older women in my family pickled corn, beans and cabbage (kraut) every harvest season.

I haven't eaten pickled corn in many years, but it wasn't one of my favorites. My favorite way to prepare corn is to fry it in butter with a good portion of salt. I put up a few gallons every summer....peach n cream of course.

It was a case of I didn't know what I was getting myself into, and I don't like wasting food.  I guess I could have just taken one home with me and eaten it later, but I didn't.  To this day it is the most stuffed I have ever felt.  There's no way I could do it now.   I was around 23 years-old.  I was in my prime.

Most people think heavier folks can eat more than anybody else. False!! Give me an 17-21 year old football player anytime!!! I've fed these monsters over the years and know what they can put away.

The best burger by far is the one you make for yourself at home.

You're right. Michelle Lesco and Mayoi Ebihara are two of the top eaters in the world(both ranked near the top 10) and both are barely over 100 pounds. AMAZING!!!

Are either of these the hotdog eating champion? I swear, he looks anorexic but he deep throats hotdogs like it's nothing.

I only ate at Chi Chi's a handful of times, but every time I did, they were getting slammed, and I always had to wait for a table.  Everybody I ever talked to about Mexican restaurants always loved Chi Chi's.  I can't figure why they closed.  Did they come up on hard times?

Family board, gran .  Smile

The two I referenced are young ladies. Michelle weighs about 112 lbs and I don't think the Asian lady weighs that much.  I believe you are thinking of the legendary, Kobiashi, the six-time hotdog-eating champ. I think he weighed around 130 lbs. during his competitive eating days.

I don't remember his name, but I do remember that you could count his ribs!!

And I didn't mean anything sexually about that description. He would take a hotdog on a bun, dip it in water and shove it down his throat. Didn't even chew it!!
And once the competition was done and he was standing, you could still count his ribs but he looked pregnant.

The chain was struggling but not the one in Lexington. Then this happened and it was over:

I always thought the one in Lexington could have stayed open.

Yep,  that's him. I think I spelled his name wrong. I know what you meant, gran. I was just having fun with you.  lol  And you're right, that's exactly what he did. Joey Chesnut, the current undisputed champ, does the same thing. He has become even more legendary than Kobayashi.

@jetpilot @Old School Hound @Granny Bear and anyone else, what do you all like on your burgers?

I like cheese, pickles, tomatoes, mayo, and ketchup. I used to like lettuce but a hernia prevents that now for me. I don't really care for bacon or anything like that on my burger.

Also, what is your favorite mom and pop burger place.  I used to love the Clark Burger from Betsy Layne Diary Bar.

Taylor's in Richmond was the best burger I have had.
Another great burger was a small hole in the wall burger joint in Roswell, NM. It was almost as good as Taylor's. I cannot remember the name of the place, my 21 y/o still talks about eating there he really wants to go back.

I have eaten at Taylor's.  I was too busy hitting Rally's when I was going to EKU.

I like cheese, tomato, lettuce, pickles, and mustard.

A lot of people here in Corbin like the Root Beer Stand. I used to like their Dixie Burger. I was a burger will a real tasty sauce. Ate them from the time I was a kid. I stopped eating there years ago when, after they brought my hamburger to the car and I unwrapped it, there was a big bite taken out of the burger. Goes without saying, I sent it back and left(for good).
