Mayfield 58 LCA 36
#1
Final.
#2
Mayfield brought it, completely interrupted everything LCA tried to run in the second half.
In the prediction thread I said that on paper LCA was a clear favorite but they would have to -beat- Mayfield.
Mayfield kept them in check and then exploited LCA when they fell behind and had to force the game.
Congrats Cards.

Mayfield just thumped LCA. The LCA defense was non-existent tonight. If anyone gets a chance go to youtube and watch this game if for nothing else to listen to the announcers the love their team the funniest I have ever heard!

Been too long since LCA saw a team that wasn’t willing to roll over for them. They saw one tonight and couldn’t respond. Mayfield matched them blow for blow and Hensley eventually just wore down. Boley is a good high school QB but not good enough to take over a game and will his team to a win. Juju is a man!

Congratulations Mayfield! Glad I was wrong about this one.

Serious question, is LCA the biggest underachieving team over the last 5-6 years?
Either one of two things, with the number of highly recruited kids they’ve had over that span……those kids are over promoted or the coaching is sub par. Which is the correct answer?

And when I say underachieving, I mean compared to expectations . With the number of high profile players shouldn’t they have had at least one state title?

They are the regular season Kings…. Paul Rains gets the job done.
How much longer will the coach get? Way to much talent to not get the job done.

I’m completely baffled. This is the biggest regional upset, imo, since Raceland was beaten by an incredibly young LCA team in 2008. Idk if you can call it an upset with Mayfields history. Either way I didn’t see a Mayfield win, let alone a blow out.
#10
LCA shouldn’t of beat Owensboro Catholic last year.
#11
Reminiscent of 2015 game versus DeSales. The Cards got LCA’s line tired late in the first half and late in the third quarter. They couldn’t stop the Cards once that happened.

Another thing about this game. Everyone across the state was expecting a huge game by Hensley, when it was a big game by JuJu Starks instead.

Wasn’t as much of a blowout as the score indicates. It was 30-29 to start the 4th quarter. Mayfield was just all gas no brakes from the jump and LCA’s only horse in Hensley eventually tired. Boley threw two picks in the 4th, one returned for a TD to put Mayfield up three scores, the other to seal the deal. Like I said in the prediction thread, you take away Hensley and force Boley to beat you, and LCA becomes a much more beatable team. Mayfield did that. LCA had three turnovers in the 4th quarter.

Absolutely, Juju was a stud tonight.

Terrible performance for LCA. They probably should make some changes after this.

Does anyone else find it interesting that your SEC committed QB is your weak link? A kid that has offers from almost every major school in every major conference is who a high school team from the football powerhouse state of Ky would rather try to force to beat them  than a RB that’s committed to a FCS school…..

Is horse collar tackle really not an automatic first down at the high school level, or did the refs blow that one early in the game?

I had a feeling Mayfield would win, but picked against them.

I am really happy to see Mayfield win this game.  Hopefully they can keep it going next week.

Well, I ain’t gonna lie, I thought we had a punchers chance if we played a great game, we payed a great game. It’s been a while since I’ve seen mayfield come out and play that disciplined, hard and aggressive. I felt comfortable with making Boley beat us, I really did. And I didn’t think we could stop Hensley and we couldn’t, that kid is a beast. If mayfield can keep that intensity, they will win it all.
#24
Hensley always laid down when his team needed him at Central. Did he actually play the whole game and not walk around on the sideline with his daddy until they were on the one or two yard line and then “gallantly” run on the field to carry it in for the TD????
#25
Lexington’s best team money can buy couldn’t get it done.
Bringing in the most talented guys doesn’t always mean the most gritty when the big moment shows up.

Credit to mayfield. Never felt like the underdog… and played like it!

Just went out and punched the bully in the mouth.
Everyone always so complimentary of they LCA staff and how great of coaches they are… you could argue they had the most talent per classification and still couldn’t get it done.
Think it’s time people start praising the job Mayfield has been able to do with their hometown boys…

After this… going to be hard to stop such a confident Mayfield team. Looks like you’re 2A state champs!

Hell no! That kid is a beast, there was NO ( lay down) in that young man. HE WAS LCA’s offense. 2 years in a row our QB outplayed Boley
#27
I’ve watched Boley play twice in person. He impressed me against Boyle. But he was just another kid on the field against Raceland. He has good arm strength. But I do not see him as a SEC caliber QB. I’ve seen a lot of kids like him go D1 or have some D1 attention and they end up playing at a smaller school eventually. Not knocking the kid, he has HUGE upside just based on size and arm strength and that is where I think his recruitment has come from.

Congratulations to Mayfield

Man, we turned it on the Red Helmet to watch the last part of this game and it was the best announcers I had listened to just being honest about there team. We was cracking up and you could feel the joy of a big time win as they spoke. I have to eat crow and gladly so when Mayfield flat out dominated LCA in who I thought was this year the best team in 2A. I honestly hope Mayfield winst the 2A Championship after last nights big win! But hats off the the Red Helmet guys. We enjoyed it listenting to it on the way home last night. We enjoyed it.

Hensley was the offense for LCA. However, he was the flame to the fuel that lit Mayfield on fire. His antics where he was taunting Mayfield’s crowd early in the game just made the fans and the players that much more motivated to kick their tales. You don’t come into a packed house of a real football school and act like you want the team to bring it, cause they just might. So, once his line got tired and the little red helmets could get to him before he got started, they were coming as hard as possible. I bet he is very sore today.
