Raceland (2-2) looks to bounce back from the butt kicking they took from Highlands last week. Newport Central Catholic (2-3) is looking to get back in the winning side after back-to-back losses. NCC is a historically stout program but hasn’t been what they were in the mid 2000s in sometime. Raceland struggled to get the passing game going against both Pikeville and Highlands. Has the blueprint been laid out to take advantage of Raceland's young and inexperienced OL? Raceland's secondary has been suspect to the big play as well this season. Not sure on the health of the Rams either as both Webb and Lundy were taken to the locker room at some point vs the Bluebirds. I feel like the Rams non district schedule has went as I expected. I think this is the point of the season that they can take care of business and find their footing again against 1A opponents.

I’m going with the Rams at home.

At this point idk is Raceland can score 35 points in a game. We seem to be more interested in milking the game clock than scoring points. The offense is stale and predictable. We don’t stretch the field and we don’t use half our play makers. Our best offensive outing of the year was against Assland. I’m afraid we are in for a rude awakening Friday.

I really liked our game plan against Pikeville. We did a good job at keeping their offense in check. Granted it was without Anthony so that makes a difference for sure. I was a little let down that we didn’t attempt any real power run game against Highlands as I felt that could have helped slow them down some. They just had waaaaaay more speed and numbers than we did. I think the next few weeks will look a lot better as the schedule softens a bit. NCC and Hazard are both non-district games that we should win by at least 2 scores. The district games should be blowouts, minus Paris as I think they have enough to keep the clock from running on them. I feel like this week looks about like the LCC game.

By comparing scores and teams played, I would guess that Raceland will win this one. It would surprise me if they beat NCC by 21 as you predicted, though. Perhaps it's time for the Ram offense to hit their stride? NCC has played some decent teams so far and it looks like their main skill players are seniors, so I wouldn't expect them to be overwhelmed by Raceland.
#6
I also think the way we played against Assland looks better and better as the year goes on.

I know a lot of people won’t agree but I think this is a game that Raceland can lose. On paper we should be the favorite but we have to find a way to score points and protect Lundy. NCC has some guys on offense that aren’t bad and if they can find a way to score points this could be an interesting game. This is also a game where I look for NCC to bring their A game to prove that they belong in the championship conversation and Raceland better come ready to play because this game is ripe for an upset.

They being said, I think the Rams will find a way to bounce back from the beat down last week and pull out a win in a hard fought game.

The Raceland defense is still really good and clearly what they have to hang their hat on.

The offense needs work, though, as they've scored 7 and 0 the past 2 weeks against teams that haven't exactly shown themselves to be Monsters of the Midway. Highlands had given up an average of 29 points per game before shutting out Raceland. Pikeville's given up an average of 20 points per game in their other 4 games.

The thing that confuses me about Raceland is that it's pretty much the same players going both ways so it's not a lack of athletic talent on offense. Heighton, Wallace, Webb, and Fannin are leading tacklers on a good defense, but the offense apparently hasn't found a way to utilize these athletes in better ways. Lundy has thrown for 30 and 48 yards in the last 2 games. That seems unacceptable. Is Raceland trying to rest their best line players too much and have them only go one way? Did they drop off that much on the offensive line from last season?

I don't know. You hardcore Ram followers probably know more of the inside story, but from an outsider's perspective...whatever it takes...fix the offense. And take advantage to see what works on offense this week since NCC likely has a bit of a pulse and competitive spirit. This is one of the last games against a team that hasn't flat-lined before Raceland closes with LCA.

We lost just about everything from last years OL. What confuses me though is how well our line did against Pikevilles OL/DL two weeks ago. Maybe Pikeville lost that much from last year as well. If that’s the case, then 1A may be more of a race than we all thought.

Something else to consider is outside of the LCC game, and I wouldn’t even call them “cupcakes”. Raceland has not had the type of schedule that creates a false sense of security offensively. In years past, we have only had the Ashland game early on to work things out on that side of the ball, we could coast through the first few weeks of the schedule and put up huge numbers only to sputter when we played teams with a pulse. Maybe the roll reversal of the schedule is a good thing right now and we can find our offensive footing over the next few weeks.

I do have to agree though, if we can manage at a minimum of 28 points against NCC, it is yet again Pikevilles to lose.

So do we have enough to play this week? I’m hearing we gotta call up junior high kids just to have a starting 11 hahah

I know we got pretty banged up against Highlands. They just kept sending in subs in the masses. They had down and distance packages defensively. Nickel, quarter, dime…they had it. Our two way guys got simply blasted about midway through the third quarter by fresh bodies. This was a game that I didn’t see us giving away. We could have done everything right and it wouldn’t have mattered. They were 2 deep, just as good if not better than us, at every position.

Look for the refereeing crew from hell this Friday. Tried to get this game moved to Saturday because of a ref shortage but NCC wouldn’t agree to the move. Oh well…..they will get what they ask for.

Let’s hope the refs show up. I heard old ArmChair is willing to put on the stripes and throw some flags. Maybe we should hit the old boy up?? Hehe

I’d need an armed escort to call a game RD!!!

If you all get any crew in the 16th, it’s sketchy at best.

The drummer from the Kentucky Headhunters.

Mr. Shortpants with his lil head cocked back.

Anger Management School dropout.

Mr. Magoo stumbling and bumbling.

And there is Barrel Belly….

Am I wrong, RAD?

Just don’t want the 850 flags crew we had Friday against highlands. Never fails every time we get them at least 30 flags are thrown.

Couple guys banged up out of practice yesterday. Hoping they are good enough to get after it Friday. If we are healthy we will win by a few scores. If not, it could be another rough night. NCC pretty quick upfront. Which is what Highlands was able to beat us with in the trenches…

If Raceland doesnt win this game, their program shouldnt exist.

I do…but shutting down a program because of a loss?? That’s a little silly hahaha. The Rams will be fine I’m sure

Are they a state championship team or not?
#26
Raceland is a title contender, they have shown they could beat Pikeville. But the Anthony kid being off the field is a big factor, on both sides of the ball. They have yet to put a real complete game together offensively, against quality teams, since the Ashland game. I liked a lot of the looks I saw vs Ashland and LCC, but a lot of that hasn’t been done since. Idk. If we can put some points on the board this weekend I will feel alot better.

I wish there was some NCC fans on here. The last two weeks we haven’t been able to have any fun on here hahah. It’s probably gonna be that way the rest of the year ….unless we can bait some Pikeville people over to this thread to have some fun. Hell Pikeville can go practice basketball for two weeks I guess…they don’t have a game for awhile hahah
#30
I figure that Pikeville will be playing basketball this year but not until after the win 3 in a row state championship been watching that game film of the Raceland game and believe it or not Pikeville played one of their worst games I have seen now have to give some credit to Rams for that but some was just poor execution and the Rams had not to do with that now go on and beat NCC and hopefully see you in the semifinals because at the rpi rating looks like where they will meet if both teams take care of business the rest of the year
