Tates Creek at Frederick Douglass 9/8
#1
The Tates Creek Commodores (3-0) will travel across town to take on the Frederick Douglass Broncos (1-1) at "The Farm". The kickoff for this city game is at 6:30pm the game also should be on the NFHS Network as well. The Commodores under head coach Jonthan Hawks Sr. are off to a 3-0 start for the first time in 10 years and only the 3rd time in the last 13 years when they began that season at 4-0. A little fact about those other two 3-0 and 4-0 starts is that Frederick Douglass assistant principal Mike Harmon was the Tates Creek head coach for those two.

Tates Creek is led on offense by senior QB Anderew Witherington who has threw for almost 500 yards and 5 touchdowns in Tates Creek's first 3 games. He has also rushed for 173 yards and 3 touchdowns. Also, RB Marquavion Smith has rushed for 183 yards and 3 touchdowns. On defense the Commodores are led by Logan Julian, Cardale Wright, and defensive backs Broedy Dunham and Senator Clay who between them have 4 interceptions so far this season.

The Broncos come in at 1-1 with a loss to Ohio power Archbishop Hoban 45-6 and then went on the road last Saturday to defeat Trinity 17-14. The Broncos have been led in their first two games by backup QB sophomore Jaxon Strautman and RB Tay Tay Allen. The Broncos defense looks early on to be the strong part of the Douglass team. They are led on defense by LB Darion Neal and Kayden Clay who had a pick 6 in the win at Trinty. In the defensive backfield the Broncos are led by two D1 power 5 commits Jeremiah Lowe (Michigan) and Terrion Hicks (Northwestern).

This is the first season that the FCPS did not require all public schools to play each other. The Commodores should be credited to still schedule the Broncos. Frederick Douglass will be going for the 20th straight win over all public and private schools in Lexington they are currently 29-0 in their 6+ season as a program. Tates Creek is making strides in their program and Coach Hawks is doing a great job, but I look for the Broncos to be fired up for their first home game of the season and win going away.

It looks like the game is going to kickoff about 10 minutes last around 6:40.

Also if you would like to watch game with play-by-play and color it is on for free on:

The Broncos won the toss and deferred to the 2nd half. They get Tates Creek to punt after picking up 1 first down. On the ensuing punt Jeremaiah Lowe (Univ. of Michigan commit) runs it back 73 yard to put the Broncos up 7-0.

Tates Creek D does an excellent job on their first time out by picking up 3 sacks after the Broncos picked up just 1 first down.

Jeremiah Lowe is having a good night so far. He just picked off a Tates Creek pass and the Broncos take over on the Creek 30 yardline.

End of the first quarter the Broncos lead 7-0 and will have the ball first and goal from the Commodore 10-yard line to begin the 2nd quarter.

Douglass scores on a 10 yard run by Pahro Watts on the first play of the 2nd quarter the extra point is no good Douglass leads 13-0.

A touchdown of 30 yards by Darin Talbot and he also got the 2 point conversion to make it 21-0 Douglass with still 9:19 left in the first half.

Tates Creek QB Andrew Witherington has kept the Commodores in this one with his legs.

Douglass scores with :03 left in the 2nd quarter on a QB designed for Jaxon Strautman from the two yard line the extra point is good, and Douglass leads 28-0 at the half.

Douglass gets the ball to begin the 2nd half and goes 74 yards on just 5 plays capped off  by 3 yard run by Watts for his 2nd rushing touchdown of the night the two point conversion on a pass from Strautman to Talbert to make it 36-0 with 10:09 left in the 3rd quarter and now is a running clock or as the guys from Big Things Kentucky say it is RC Cola game.

Touchdown Broncos on the first play of the 4th quarter on a touchdown by Allen the extra point is good Douglass leads 43-0. It looks like a lot of the younger kids are coming into the game now.

It only took a little less than 30 minutes to play the 2nd half due to the running clock. Douglass wins 43-0.
