PRESTONSBURG - A former Floyd County social worker was arrested Monday when he reported for his monthly probation appointment.
Chris Newsome, 33, who now resides in Frenchburg, was taken into custody by the Floyd County Sheriff's Department on one count of burglary, stemming from a complaint filed on July 6.
The complaint accuses Newsome of breaking into a Harold dwelling by using a credit card and allegedly taking various items from the home.
Newsome had been placed on supervised probation following an arrest last year for fraudulently using a former coworker's credit card. He pleaded guilty in that case but didn't come to court on his plea date, which led to a stern rebuke from judge Danny P. Caudill. Caudill did not appear satisfied by Newsome's explanation that he was suffering from stress and cautioned him to seek aid for stress management.
Newsome was arrested at the probation office alongside his wife, Tessa, who was also charged with burglary for the July 6 incident.
The pair were arraigned in district court on Tuesday, when Chris Newsome was placed on a $5,000 cash bond and his wife was issued a $2,000 bond. They were ordered to return to court on July 19 for a preliminary hearing in the case, as they are charged with felonies which will move the case to circuit court if there is enough evidence presented at the hearing to convince Judge James ALlen to pass the case on to a grand jury. Tessa Newsome was able to make her bond on Tuesday, while Chris Newsome remained in custody at press time.
