My wife is a Sheby Co. graduate and lived in Shelbyville for several years. It would be nice to see Shelby Co. take home the trophy.

Shelby County, a finalist with a championship in their past, is looking to wear the crown for the first time since 1979. The Rockets beat Murray, 7-5, at Owensboro's Chautauqua Park to win the '79 championship. Shelby County has finished second on three occasions, most recently to Dunbar in 2007.
The only other eighth region team with a state championship is Woodford County, although the Yellowjackets were still members of the eleventh region when they won it all in 2012.

Whitley County has advanced farther than any team in school history. The Colonels won their first region title in 2021, falling to Lyon County in the quarterfinals that season. They are led by coach Jeremy Shope, whose Mercer County teams were runners-up in both 2011 and 2013.
No thirteenth region team has ever won a baseball state championship. Two teams have advanced to the final, with Harlan falling to Maysvile in 1958 and Corbin losing to Pleasure Ridge Park in 1994

All comes down to pitching. Both throwing their aces. Wills for Shelby the left handed. Whitley doesn’t hit nearly as well with lefties it seems. Zehr for Whitley

Three pitches and three outs for Shelby. All groundouts. Making contact but good for Whitley’s arm.

Going to the 2nd
