Ashland Tomcats, wear your maroon attire proudly in Lexington. A tradition like no other, just like the Masters golf tradition only on a smaller level. The program with the most high school wins in Kentucky history! And how many trips to the state, well over 30 …..second only to Owensboro. And 4 state championships! Wow!! I know most of the 16th region member schools are very proud of their region’s traditional basketball Standard Bearer.
Now, go take care of business and win that first game vs Owensboro (just like you did against the Red Devils 4 years ago in the same tournament) and go deep into this tournament.
GO TOMCATS!!!!!

Mays was very good at what he did. It may not have been the right thing to do but he was good at it. He broke the rules and was fired for it. That is why we have rules. All three of the kids mentioned above had private conversations with Mays before enrolling at Ashland. He basically admitted that in the phone recording by saying these conversations had to be kept quiet becasue they were not legal.
We will be repeating this same sequence in a couple years with another area school. Stay tuned.
I hope Mays gets another coaching job in the area. As you said, he was good at getting players. He was also great at building a positive culture, getting players to share the ball, and getting guys to work like they’d never worked before. He was also an excellent communicator and marketer for both the program and the players. Really as good as it gets as a high school coach. I realize he made some mistakes and I didn’t like some of the things he said. I’m sure he’s learned from them, though.
Since you seem to have some inside info, tell me what colors I need to purchase for my wardrobe because I for one am a Mays supporter.

Boyd should win next year, but word is Russell is loading up. Wonder if Randy Anderson will survive.

Russell can add all the talent they want. It's all for naught if you don't have a coach that can do something with it.

If they are good enough to play that would be good. Maybe those recruits could go across the river and the homegrown kids get some minutes. Lol.

Bonner deserves to keep the job, if he wants it. But guarantee Ashland thinks Jim Boeheim will be interested, or someone similar.
Also Boyd has the worst parents in the region, so guarantee they push Coach Anderson out.

He has five of them on our team. Haha. Having to deal with the Mays debacle would be tough enough for anyone to deal with. His first year he has to deal Steve and Adam as dads who are in every practice. Locker rooms. That will be an area moving forward he will have to get grips on. It has caused some issues this year. I have faith that won’t be the case next year. We still have unfinished business still to do.

There is a giant getting awoke in the 16th region again and you guys have no idea what’s coming. Look for this region to get very good over the coming years if you believe Ashland, Russell, Boyd, etc. is good they may just get humbled. This team used to reign supreme!!! It’s

Do not bite on this nonsense. This is probably a high school kid talking about his hope for his high school team. The region will continue to be Ashland and Boyd Co. unless Russell is able to recruit in the kids they are targeting.

Russell will be the next on the chopping block if they allow the dad to transfer kids in. Lewis, Greenup and Raceland will probably have the KHSAA on speed dial if the Devils try to sneak this one in. Several phone calls if this happens.

Mays brought in “recruits”, transfers, whatever you want to call them. But the fact of the matter is most of these kids were 2-3 year players for him. So anyone that says his system and staff didn’t develop those kids even further is blind. Not saying what he did was right, but to say all he did was bring in ringers and start winning is false. He was winning before the ringers got there.

The “giant” being awoke is Elliot Co. they have absolutely incredible 8th grade group. Adkins, Barker, Faulkner, and a handful of others can absolutely play their asses off. Raceland had a very solid 8th grade bunch this year, but even without Adkins and Faulkner, Raceland 8th grade had no answer for the scoring efficiency of Elliott in the 8th grade OVC. Ashland and Boyd’s 8th are nowhere near as good.

Where are the Devils bringing kids in from?

Two worlds have collided that will separate the rest for years to come!!! Adkins will benefit from the monster forming

Raceland 6th/7th grades are pretty good too. There’s more development being put in in that regard. Those two groups, along with the 8th grade group will put Raceland in a place they haven’t been in the 16th region, maybe ever. 6th and 7th smoked boyd and played right with Ashland for the most part.

The tri-state area is worse off without Jason Mays living in it. Ashland will be fine and have a competitive team going forward, but Mays had a vision for their program exceeding what any of their previous coaches could offer. His work ethic put other area coaches to shame. They hated him for it. Baller hated him because he apparently wouldn’t play his son. However, from Baller’s comments on here about Bonner turning over his locker room to 2 parents, I can’t imagine the honeymoon with Bonner will last long either.

Tri state kids are safe from a coach poaching players. I don’t hate Mays. I hate what Mays is and stands for. His work is making calls and txt to kids. If that is out working coaches. I just have a different opinion and a moral compass. I couldn’t do what he did to my own players if I was the coach. Wish our boys luck as they leave tomorrow. Mays is no longer here!! Ashland is better for it. As far as Bonner. He won’t have to worry about the two dads. They will be in MOCO in a few months.
