Alas, the final showdown from an off-season of drama takes place this evening at Ellis T. Johnson Arena in Morehead. The tournament hasn't gone as predicted so far with Ashland destroying their "difficult" side of the bracket by a grand total of a 47 point differential. Meanwhile, Boyd, who supposedly had the "easy" draw, was a free throw away from going home in round 1 and was manhandled in round 2 while squeaking out a second OT win with their best player sitting on the bench. Either coach could conceivably lose their job if they lose this game. Never has a rivalry had an opportunity to reach such a boiling point with the offseason removal of Jason Mays by the Boyd parent, with the disparaging remarks made by the Boyd parent about the now Ashland player, with the reported infighting amongst the Tomcat transfers and homegrown players, and with the "all in" hope of these Boyd parents for their group to go down as Lion basketball gods.
One thing is certain, with the way the referees have called this tournament so far, the real "men" will win this game as the men in stripes won't call a thing. No blood, no foul. The physicality should reach an epic level. It should be fun to watch.
MyTownTV should provide a "Mays Cast" in the spirit of the Monday Night Football "Manning Cast" where we can hear the commentary of Jason Mays as an alternative to their homer broadcast or perhaps have Mays make a surprise entrance..."Bah Gawd...that's Jason Mays' music" in the spirit of good old JR...Hell in a Cell indeed.

I think anybody that knows basketball knew the region would come down to Ashland and Boyd. Yes .... all the "Mays Stuff" at the beginning of the year was great drama but these two basketball programs and communities do it better than anybody else in the 16th Region. Yes .... some other programs had successful seasons but that was due to great scheduling. The gap between Ashland/Boyd and the rest of the region is wide. I'm not sure who will win but I'm confident the two most talented teams are playing for the 16th Regional title and that is what makes for a great championship. Best of luck to both teams.

After last night, it is hard to pick against Ashland.

If Ashland isn't favored and the Boyd County team that showed up last night takes the floor in Lexington it won't be a long stay for the 16th, great draw and all.

The only thing i have to comment on is the boyd parent removing coach mays. Coach Mays removed himself. No one is ever sorry for doing the wrong thing when it benefits them themselves, they are only sorry when they got caught. If more parents, players, etc. would do the right thing and report nonsense like this then the fighting and offseason drama wouldnt exist. On a side note, I'm hearing the spurlock kid has a bum foot and may not even play tonight. If that's the case i don't see how ashland could lose.

No way. Surely the guy answers the bell in the biggest game of his young career. No way any starter doesn’t play in this one.

seems if i remember Boyd has won both matchups this year by 8. Hard to beat a team 3 times in a year. I kind of like Ashland neutral setting by 3 but hey I think this will be a great game this evening
