From today's Courier-Journal, the KHSAA Board of Control Football Committee yesterday voted unanimously to expand football to six classes (up from four today) for the 2007 season. According to the article, two proposals are being considered: 1) a straight split of the football-playing schools into 6 classes (roughly 37 schools per class) and 2) a 20-team 'superclass' proposal consisting of the top 20 schools and the smallest 24 schools, with four equal classes of 44 teams in between. In both new proposals, male enrollments would be used to classify schools, as opposed to the current practice of using overall school enrollments (male and female) to determine classification. The increase to 6 classes would also increase the total number of teams that make the playoffs from 128 to 192 (out of 221 football-playing schools).

I think its a good deal, it will give some of the other schools a chance to make it to the big show. And also I think it will put the schools where they actually need to be.

Should stir up some excitement at least short term. I am always excited as far as HS football is concerned though, so lets "get-r-done!"

I know they went to playing district foes the first two rounds, will that still be the case?

But I see Boyle being the team to beat year in and out since Highlands and Cov. Cath. play up in class.

will the six classes take place this season?
Its hatd to believe that we have been playing with only 4 classes since 1975. You would have thought that this would have changed before now.

Any chance that Lawrence could drop down into AAA where I think they belong?

EKSG with this setup they'll be right in the middle of 4A. Bat the district could mean a heck of a bunch of traveling.
07-12-2006, 11:36 PM
Looks like it would be either a five or six team district.
I would guess based on location of these schools it would be Boyd, Rowan, Greenup, Lawrence and Mason.
Haven't we had that setup before. If that were the case travel wouldn't be real bad.

ok im sure Pike Central will stay 2 A but what about Belfry with the huge rise of enrolment with the new school and talk about moving up even when there would only be 4A where will they stand...If this does take place you talk about some traveling for some teams...I give it two thumbs way up...
07-13-2006, 03:07 PM
I like the Idea, It gives more teams Championship hopes and dreams. Ohio has a similer setup if Im not mistaken. 98NCCALUM may be able to answer that one for me.
07-13-2006, 05:30 PM
Ive been reading in some "Projected" alignments on other sites that Pikeville would move to 2a anyone else heard this?
