I know most everyone has seen this, but I would love to hear some of your all's opinions on this. A man was escorted out of Rupp Arena for holding A sign that stated "Please Go To Texas". This was obviously directed at Cal and the rumors that is talking to the Long Horns coaching job. What do you think?

I'm not sure that I agree with this guy, but he has the right to hold that sign IMO.
Isn't that freedom of speech?

Now that this story has gotten so much attention, I wonder if more fans will have signs at the next home game.

There isn't FOS. From what I was told anti - NFL and anti-Goodell signs were also confiscated in Cincinnati at the Bengals-Ravens game. Is there true FOS on message boards like this one? Thoughts and words are censored everywhere. Now, the degree to which that is a good or bad thing is might be a good topic for another thread. But the short answer is "no," there isn't free speech. Not really. Not without consequences, at least.

he did it wrong, should have just shown up in a texas shirt.
In fact, the whole arena should be filled with texas shirts at the next game.

I had never thought of that. That would be a much smarter way to approach it.

T-shirts are too subtle. Imagine Rupp Arena filled with fans wearing long horns on their heads!!

If Cal's team wins the SEC Tournament, fans will be back celebrating Cal again. Then if they lose to SIU-Edwardsville in the NCAA Tourney, fans will be rabid again and calling for Cal's head. But if they go on a roll and advance to the Final Four , and with Cal's top-ranked recruiting class coming in next year, most everyone will be back on Team Cal again. Fickle BBN.

If I had to choose between Mitch(Barnhardt) and Cal to be fired, I would choose Mitch. I think he is the biggest problem. Cal raised $30 million on his own(he has rich friends) for a new practice facility for the bball team. Mitch said no. Mitch and Cal don't even talk to each other. Mitch appears to be sabotaging Cal at every turn, and at the expense of the basketball program. I know I've made this statement in the political forum before but I'll say it now in the college basketball forum: "FIRE MITCH!!!"

Btw, BGR'er's , how much money did you make to do your job today?
Our bball coach made $23, 287.67 TODAY to coach up his team. He will also make that tomorrow, and Sunday, and MLK Day, and the next, and so on... everyday of the year, every year. Until 2025, that is, when he gets a raise that will pay him $24,657.53 PER DAY, every day . That's not a bad gig, even with the stress of having to listen to know-nothings like us hillbilly paupers who call for his head everyday.
Let's look at it logically, though. Cal must be really good at what he's paid to do; otherwise, why would an employer shell out almost 25K PER DAY for a bad employee. Would your employer pay you 25K a day if you were bad at what they hired you to do?
Also, surely you wouldn't be enshrined in the Hall of Fame for your occupation if you were no good at your job. This is a HOF dude who his employer dishes out nearly 25 big ones every single day to have his work. He must be good...right?

Does anyone know if there are restrictions on fan signage at Rupp? Are signs allowed? If so, what size? Seems like it would quite distracting to have 23,000 signs in the house like the one the guy brought in. Are we okay with signs saying absolutely anything the fan wants to say?

Are we okay with any message a fan wants to display? I mean, if you allow one opinion, don't you have to allow them all?
Would you all be okay with:

You do make a good point about obscuring the view of other patrons of the game. However, if the guy was not blocking anybody's view during the game, then I don't think that he should have been tossed from the arena - especially if he offered to toss the sign. I see signs supporting home teams at ball games all the time, although I don't catch many UK games these days because they have stopped putting a quality product on the floor under Coach Cal's guidance.(01-13-2023, 08:03 PM)Hoot Gibson Wrote:(01-12-2023, 11:30 AM)Old School Hound Wrote: Tennessee fans are gonna be brutal on Saurday in Knoxville. I've seen signs at many ballgames, even UK's. Remember when it was popular to have the faces of players blown up and put on signs?
There may not have been 23,000 but it sure looked like it.

Let's go Brandon!
As Reagan famously said to Mondale, "There you go again!" lol My dear friend, outside of maybe an internet forum, I can't fathom that you actually talk like this to people out in the world you disagree with . It's really just a perpetual stream of insults, bullying, and personal attacks. And I'm someone you claim to like. One can only imagine the verbiage you use to put down those that you dislike. In almost every post if someone doesn't see the world through your lens, you respond with personal insults. I've just come to understand that it's your style and just to look over it. Just Jet being Jet is kinda how I have viewed it.
One of the wisest people I ever met in my more than six decades of life told me something I've never forgotten. She said, " anytime someone puts someone else down in the presence of others is a huge marker and says much about their character, values, morals, integrity, dignity, and human decency." I personally think it goes even deeper than that. I think it exposes a deep insecurity in the person who publicly victimizes others with their words. Deep insecurities about their own beliefs and deep insecurities about their own character and personal human frailities. It's really just a terrible look.
I used to go back and forth with you and Hoot a lot , saying things just to get a rise out of you guys. We call it "Baker Reasoring" here in Corbin because there was a fella by the name of Baker Reasor who was well known here in town who like to do just that---say things just to watch people get riled up or mad at each other. I have apologized for doing some of that on here myself in the past. It was kinda fun for awhile but then it wasn't and just created bad energy. Our country is in trouble, very polarized, and seemingly in self -destruct mode. We simply don't talk to one another in a civil manner anymore, not at local school board meetings, not on network television, not at Congressional hearings, not on internet message boards. Look at the video titles on You Tube "Rand Paul SHREDS Pelosi" or "Cheney DESTROYS Trump."
Why do we have to shred or destroy one another with our words? Why can't reasonable people with two totally different views of the world just respect each other's differences without engaging in personal insults or demeaning language? I know I will probably receive more insults as a result of saying this but I hope we can just agree to disagree and allow one another to state his views without coming under personal attack. I hope you will view these words as they are meant to be taken--- words of wisdom which were passed on to me that I now pay foward from one friend to another. It's not a rebuke but a gift. Not only you and I, but let's all make a pact on here to not say demeaning or hateful words to one another. We should be able to give our opinions without being demeaning or hateful to one another. Btw, I have no issue with a person being passionate about their beliefs or even salty with their language towards celebrities or politicians. I just think we shouldn't personally demean each other on here. Just my thoughts.
Now back to Coach Cal and the sad state of UK bball.
What I hope is that Cal stays on through next year. According to the so-called experts, he has the best recruiting class in the country coming in, including the "can't miss" #1 dude that Cal took away from Louisville. If Cal goes, then that class of athletes is likely gone also and we are in for big time struggle next season as well. Cal is not a great X's and O's coach. He just isn't. But he's a Hall of Famer for a reason. There are some aspects of the coaching profession that he does very well. I think he misses Robic a lot . Robic was a very good X's and O's man who helped out Cal a lot. Kenny Payne was also a significant loss. Cal needs an offensive coodinator, someone to change up this stagnant, antiquated offense. I also think, maybe, Cal has gotten a litle lazy the past couple or three years, since he signed his current contract. I say give him next year and expect a Final Four. If it doesn't happen, then reexamine the situation at the end of next season. I'm mean, what's the alternative--- buy out Cal or hope he goes to Texas and then hire Scott Drew and hope that Laurel County's Golden Child will lead us to the Promised Land. No thanks!!!!
^^^There is so much horse sh!t in this post there has to be a pony down in there somewhere. Eyes started spinning 1 or 2 sentences in and couldn't make it any further.
And if I am talking about UK basketball and someone screams "orange man bad" I will tell them to get away from me with that deranged sh!t we're trying to talk sports here. FWIW.
