Pikeville 76 Harlan 63 (Pikeville Invitational Championship)
#1
Final from TW Oliver.

Panthers take down the previously unbeaten Dragons to win back to back PITs.

Rylee Samons is the John Bill Trivette Most Valuable Player of the 2022 Pikeville Invitational Tournament.

Congratulations, Panthers!

congratulations pikeville panthers, it’s a given that they would win the “pikeville invitational” and definitely not lose to the same team at home again

Refs were definitely awful in this game but Harlan couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat in this one.

Harlan did shoot more free throws.

Harlan has been really good to start the year. My Panthers were better tonight.

Refereeing in the 15th is at an all time low and will get worse.

Figured ref Mike hall would play a big part in pikeville's win and boy did he.

Yeah he held Harlan to 36% shooting while helping Pikeville shoot over 50%. He had Pikeville up by 20 late in the 4th. He has to improve his free throws though, Harlan shot more than Pikeville...Hopefully he will learn from this game and get better...

15th Region reffing is definitely going downhill but I think that’s probably a every region problem. I mean who would want to ref in todays era?

So I try not to be too harsh on refs because they do a job I’d never do or have the Johnson to do.

He doesn’t much care for Pikeville at all actually. He is a Johnson County guy.   You type some of the dumbest remarks sometimes. Act like you have some sense.  The officiating did not determine the outcome of this game by any means.

There were some bad calls in the game I thought, but it wasn’t near the worst I’ve ever seen. Bad no calls worse than bad calls though actually.

When Pikeville lost at Boyd earlier in the season and took the lost to Harlan at home. I didn’t see anyone from Pikeville come on here and claim the refs took it from them or make any other excuses. That’s the difference in Pikeville and some other programs. They took their losses, learned from it and moved on. Their fans don’t come on here to make excuses but when they win against a good team someone is always on here saying Pikeville cheated. Never Fails.

Refs are human. The foul calls were even. Harlan shot more free throws and Pikeville actually had a starter foul out

Good bounce back win against a team that beat them 10 days or so ago. Congrats Panthers.

I’m sure Harlan can’t wait to play a home game after 8 road game. Next home game January 13

Yeah it’s hard to complain about the refs when they lose at home against a non region opponent. It’s a known fact it’s impossible to get a fair share when you cross region lines, and especially if you are playing the team hosting the classic. And even more when you just beat the hosting team and their home floor not too long ago. I hate the “harlan shot more free throws” argument. Anyone that watches basketball knows the number of free throw attempts one team has does not impact a game unless the difference between the two teams is staggering in number. Like a game i seen at an out of state tournament had a free throw difference of 27-5. That’s a difference maker. Doubt pikeville had a significantly lesser amount. I will never say that a team lost because of the refs, because refs suck universally and teams have to grow over that on the road, but let’s not act like pikeville isn’t notorious for having 3 blind zebras…

ps. I don’t even like Harlan city i’m just here

^^^Cry more. The referees called this game the same way on both ends of the floor.

Alright dude whatever you say, congrats to pikeville players for the tough win. Hope they have fun going to rupp again in the most watered down talentless region in the state.

Same Region who beat 13th Region Champion in the state tournament last season.

I'd say the 14th is the weakest region, overall, in the state the past few years.

Refs were terrible they put Harlan on the line when the knowed the game was out of reach they let pikeville put 2hands on Harlan’s ball handlers all night but Harlan couldn’t touch the panthers. We will see who is actually the better team pikeville has to go to Harlan later in the season.

If u say that they called this game even u obviously don’t know anything about basketball. Pikeville even pulled a old school move by putting long nets up just for the Harlan game so the net would get stuck and keep Harlan from running bc they know from the first game they couldn’t run with Harlan. Refs know how to effect the game and they also know how to make it look even by putting Harlan o. The free throw line when the game is out of reach these refs should be ashamed of themselves.

Harlan shot more free throws in both halves.

They let Pikeville guard us but wouldn't let us guard them! And they used nets we didn't like! LOL WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

Pikeville outplayed Harlan all night and the game was called straight up. Take the L and grow up. If Harlan shoots 36% again next time they will lose again. And they will lose 90+% of games they shoot that bad. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
#22
U right they ain’t winning shooting that bad but when pikeville goes to Harlan we will see how they adjust to 13 region refs and we will see who’s the better team. U real tough waaaaa to someone hiding behind the keyboard.
#23
^^^Wrong again I don't hide anywhere.

Pikeville will adjust fine like they did last year when they won at Harlan. But if Harlan wins (very possible, they are an excellent team), you won't see Pikeville fans come on here crying about the refs, the nets, the sun got in their eyes or anything else.

I'm a Pikeville fan and I think Harlan is probably the better team this season but it's probably pretty close but I haven't seen either team live this season so my opinion isn't worth much. Either way I won't blame the refs when Pikeville loses.
#25
I'd say pretty even. Harlan outplayed Pikeville first time and Pikeville outplayed Harlan the other night. Both teams really get after it and are fun to watch.

Do you realize the Harlan coach took the starters out with over 2 minutes left in the game. I think they were down 14 or 15. Could have made a run. I think he did that for a reason though. Some of his star players were being a bunch of whiney babies and he wanted to teach them a lesson. Just shut up and play no matter how the officials are calling it!
#29
He took them out bc the game was over and don’t mean anything live to fight another day don’t want to get one of them hurt in a game that obviously they wasn’t going to win

Now we going to call kids names that’s classy. I like it that they show their emotion it means they care nothing wrong with being frustrated they showed class and respect in the handshake to the pikeville players

the last couple years yes no question, this year it’s a close battle with the 15th. Maybe the edge to 14th because the 2nd 3rd, 4th and 5th best teams in that region are better than those of the 15th.

Yep let’s take one single game and make comments comparing regions. Yes pikeville beat north laurel last year. Congrats it was impressive. Does that make the 15th better than the 13th, not even relatively close. pikeville SHOULD win every game in that region, because the comp is pathetic. If they get to the sweet sixteen and make a run that’s impressive, but winning a watered down region isn’t a super accomplishment when they should win it every year. Doubt the 13th region champ goes out in the first round of the sweet sixteen this year tho after seeing what they got this year. Other than regions 4,7,11 i’m taking the 13th any day of the week. I’d take the 15th next to last or last.
