Mays fired from Ashland

Not a bias. Parents are upset how Mays talked about our kids. We don’t want a man like that. One who says one thing on his media outlets but feels totally different about those same kids to their face. Only the kids  families that have been recruited support him. Believe me it’s not a bias. If Bonner does that. We wouldn’t want him either.

Man, all he said was one of his kids could play college ball if he could improve his defense. That isn’t as bad as you make it to be. He had probably already told the young man the same thing in practice. And he apologized for saying it to the caller, who it wasn’t none of their business to know anyway. He apologized. That comment is highly unusual for Jason and anyone who knows him will tell you that. He loves his players and will do anything for them.
But that is indicative of all your posts in this thread. You take one thing, such as that comment, and take it completely out of context and try to make it appear 10X worse than it is. All because he didn’t play someone close to you at one time and it has filled you with hate and revenge. So you blow every up bigger than it is, such as this comment that he apologized for. Typical 16thregionballer. The Everyone Should Get A Trophy proponent, lol.

Absolutely not. My post have been of fact and what Mays actually said on audio. You on the other hand have advocated for his actions. Pathetic!  It appears that it was typical of him to contact other 16 region players. Players from wv. Etc. that’s the truth. No opinion. I think you need to take your meds. You have now entered a state of delusion of epic proportion with your ramblings and lies. I do not believe everyone deserves a trophy.  I also believe if you can’t win a trophy or don’t have one. That you don’t STEAL other people’s trophies. Haha. Unlike you!

SMH. More distortions. More of making the issues out to be bigger than what it is. It’s called embellishing a narrative, and you are a master at it. Making a mountain out of a mole hill answers from you. All because you have a kid who doesn’t get as much PT as you want. Regardless of who is on a team, whether it be transfers or local kids,  if a player is good enough they will break into the lineup or at least see a lot of minutes. Sometimes it takes a hard work, and sometimes it takes talent. But one or both will get them there.
The way you spin things is all transfers are probably recruits, that no one moves into a system without being recruited. By that definition how many “recruits” are playing in all sports throughout the 16th right now. And how many have played for the past 10 years? The last 20 years? If you think all these kids that have transferred around over the years come to their new school without someone talking to a coach or his staff or boosters before the move is made then you are out of touch with reality and you are the one who needs to be taking meds.
Yes, Jason made a mistake talking to the dude and he has admitted it. But I think the superintendent and principal went too far with their decision to remove him. A one month suspension would have sufficed. But it’s water under the bridge now. He will be fine. Your little inner circle have gotten what you wanted and so be it. The only reason I continue to respond to your posts is you keep unfairly bashing him due to a personal vendetta. I am not going to sit by idly and allow that garbage without responding.
Heard one of the kids that transferred in under Mays has already quit.

No one likes a cheater or thief. He cheated and stole other teams player and bad mouthed his kids doing it. That’s not embellishing. That’s embarrassing. As embarrassing as you down playing it. You and the administration did think alike. 4 game suspension was enough for them as well. Haha Thank God you’re not in charge either or you’d be in the same boat as Campbell and Howard. Khsaa telling you that is a joke of a self imposed punishment. Come back to reality with the rest of the people.

Bath recruit was given a one game suspension because he was upset he wasn’t starting when the football guys came back. I’ll give it Bonner. I think he handled it well considering all the Mays fanatics parents causing issues and distractions for him. If he can navigate the mess of the fanatics recruit parents and not have a nervous breakdown or be stressed to the max. He should be given a real chance as the fulltime head coach not just the interim.
In his 4 seasons at Ashland, Jason Mays was 99-28 with 4 16th Region Titles, 1 Sweet Sixteen Elite Eight, 1 Sweet Sixteen Final Four, and an undefeated season culminating with a Sports Illustrated article about the team. He left with 12 wins in a row over the Tomcats main rival Boyd County.

He scheduled and brought to town the following teams during his time at Ashland:
GRC, Woodford County, Scott County, George Washington (WV), Louisville Desales, Louisville Seneca, Louisville Butler, Madison Central, Capital (WV), Warren Central, Louisville Trinity, Highlands, Bardstown, Bowling Green, Covington Catholic, Simon Kenton, North Laurel, Dunbar, North Gwinnett (GA), Louisville Ballard, Peninsula Catholic (VA), Lyon County, Louisville Male, Louisville Fairdale, Lincoln County, Cincinnati Elder (OH), Huntington High (WV)

Here are the top 10 players who scored the most points under Jason Mays:
Cole Villers 1440 (Ashland)
Ethan Sellars 1397 (Ashland)
Colin Porter 1326 (Transferred from Elliott County after 8th grade)
Ethan Hudson 793 (Ashland)
Devaunte Robinson 475 (Ashland)
Zander Carter 446 (Transferred from Greenup County after 8th grade)
Justin Bradley 426 (Ashland)
Ryan Atkins 356 (Ashland)
Hunter Mays 336 (Ashland)
Tucker Conway 296 (Ashland)

Here are the top 10 players who played in the most games under Jason Mays:
Ethan Sellars 116 (Ashland)
Ryan Atkins 96 (Ashland)
Cole Villers 85 (Ashland)
Hunter Gillum 83 (Ashland)
Colin Porter 80 (Transferred from Elliott County after 8th grade)
Ethan Hudson 66 (Ashland)
Justin Bradley 64 (Ashland)
Tucker Conway 58 (Ashland)
Asher Adkins 57 (Ashland)
Zander Carter 54 (Transferred from Greenup County after 8th grade)

Jason Mays brought an NCAA sanctioned recruiting event to Ashland in the summer of 2021 where ALL local schools (Boyd County, Russell, etc.) were invited to play in front of more than 30 college coaches including D-1 coaches such as Bob Huggins and Rick Stansbury.

You're right, Baller. That isn't the resume of a good high school basketball coach. That's the resume of a GREAT high school basketball coach. The facts just don't align with your narrative. Mays marketed the tradition of Ashland basketball being the winningest program in Kentucky and turned them back into a state contender, not an easy task in an area lacking the population to support a consistent state contender.

I agreed with you that Mays shouldn't have downed his own players in the call. That's where my agreement with you ends, though. Coach Jason Mays was an asset to the area. Ashland's rival schools were jealous of him. If he doesn't leave town, then I wouldn't be surprised to see him offered a head coaching job locally. In fact, if I were a local school that wanted to take basketball seriously knowing this guy is in town, I'd be contacting him immediately.

You do a great job of leaving off the recruited kids. That’s how you spin it. We know Porter and Carter came in 8th. Mays explained how to circumvent the Khsaa paperwork in the Mays tape. You can win when you take pieces from everyone and put them with pieces like Mays said in the audio. Like currently. He needed a point guard. Surprise the BC point guard he mentioned in the Mays tape and admits to talking to his parent just shows up the last week of school. Mays is a great recruiter. Goes after talent he needs. Not one of the kids you listed did he develope. He just went out and got the pieces he needed because he could t develope. The list of the recruited kids are in this thread. I’m not gonna keep repeating their names.

I left off the "recruited" kids because none of them statistically ranked in the top 10 in points OR games played while Jason Mays coached at Ashland.  If a player wasn't one of the top 10 players in either category, then I don't imagine he was much of a "recruit".

What I see on your list. Minus the kids who were on the team when he arrived. You specifically left of the recruited kids. I also see kids he bashed on this list while attempting to recruit another 8th grader. Recruiting pattern. You may want to go back just the last three years. He needed a few months or season in his first he received from Howell before he brought in his first recruit.
Hilarious people think the kid that came from Bath is a recruit and don’t know that back story.

Everyone also should know that Colin Porter did not come because of Mays, Colin Porter came because of Villers.

Carter? Not sure. He came before he got to high school though, something multiple schools in the area have taken advantage of. I could snoop through multiple rosters from the past few years and find kids who attended different middle schools. In all sports.

Only thing that makes me happy about this situation is that I think the region will become more balanced. I like the fact that there’s no guarantee Ashland will win the region like the last few years. Maybe the Rams will make a run! lol

Do tell the back story about the Bath recruit that just so happens to show up after the other 6’8 recruit went back home immediately the next day after the loss at Rupp.

Yes everyone knows that Colin played some Aau with Cole. Yes Mays recruited him. Had to impose influence on him to come as well as talking to Chris. While the Superintendent gave him rides daily from Sandy Hook to Ashland and back home.

Carter’s dad has made it know that Mays promised him to start if he brought Z. It was said numerous times by him especially when he was mad at games when he would pull him to sit during games. In addition to audio of Mays own admission of telling how to recruit 8th graders and circumvent the Khsaa.

I hate all this that is currently going on and what has went on. It needs to be cleaned up. The principal and superintendent has as much dirt on their hands as Mays does when it comes to the recruiting.  What I’m hearing Mays has told them if I go down. I’m bring you down with me and gave Khsaa more information?  Now I don’t know that to be fact. Hate to even say that because then I appear to be like LOOK.

There’s at least 5 outright lies or distortions in this post, but so be it. That’s typical you, lol. But you haven’t gotten anyone fooled. You have an intense hatred for Mays because your son didn’t get the playing time you wanted under Mays. That’s the bottom line. It’s all about you and your wants. Not Ashland. You.
Now I’m going to mention a hypothetical comment, which is basically an opinion but I think I’m on the right track. If your son had played, even started for Mays, and the Tomcats won the region and games at the state you would be all up in arms right now defending him and pissed that Mays was fired. I know you will reply to this by saying no way and babble on for a paragraph with more lies and misdirections, but I just don’t believe it. Because this is too much of an obsession with you. With you it’s all about getting even. Thankfully the Ashland community as a whole are big Jason Mays supporters. They know what he has done for their community and school spirit. They understand it’s a huge loss not having him as their coach anymore.
But carry on with your rambling post of lies, distortions, twisting and giving your spin to suit your narrative. You don’t have nearly as much support in your beliefs as you think you do, just a small group which I will refer to as your inner circle. Fortunately the other 90+% of Ashland citizens don’t share your opinions.

No distortion and lies. That’s more your agenda. The reason you wouldn’t believe it is because you have the same morals as Mays. Cheat and win. The pain of the kids are being recruited over means nothing to you or him. That’s why you can’t believe it. I think the very small crowd at that Mays rally is all his support. About 10 people out of crowd support him. The rest are their to see what’s going on. So don’t fool yourself. Believe me it’s been more than one kid to be recruited around. Ashland citizens do share the my opinion. It the family’s who live in the surrounding counties and their kids play here that do not. You’d know that if you were around the program.

Carter?

You are a broken record of interpretive  misinformation and personal vendetta.

You need to reread 16thregioner’s sensible posts and take a few lessons of how to get to the true reality of something like this situation and not base every take on personal feelings.

Yes baller has some lies!!!!!
Baller is so singularly focused on the true Ashland kids getting to play that he’s not seeing the bigger picture of what Jason Mays did for the program, school, and community. Yes, Mays had his flaws, but the positives far outweighed the negatives. What exactly are true Ashland kids anyway? Do you have to go to a school system from K-12 to be considered homegrown these days? If so, not many teams that win in any sport will pass that test. Coach Bonner seems like a good guy and I wish him luck. He will need it dealing with parents like Baller.

A side story coming from the Tuesday game will be the pressure Randy Anderson will be under if he manages to somehow lose that game. I mean, this Spurlock guy has ruined his reputation locally in an effort to get his son’s team to win. If they still don’t win after he got rid of Mays? Whew, I wouldn’t want to be Randy Anderson.

You continue to twist the truth. I have specifically said no one cares if a kid transfers moving into the district and playing legally. By the bylaws. Recruiting kids. That’s my issue. Cheating is pathetic to win high school sports at any school. Mays did it and was caught and let go. Let’s hope Khsaa doesn’t bring the hammer due to his arrogance. I appreciate the way you few talk about a kid. You all are Mays fans. Not ashland fans. Like him you don’t care. As far as the region being weaker due to him being fired is stupidity. Logically taking other teams players in the region weakened it if anything. 1976. I’m just glad you came back out of hiding.

Mr. 16thregionballer, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read.  At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.  Everyone on this message board is now dumber for having read it.  I award you no likes, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Back to the upcoming Boyd-Ashland game, I didn't realize that Boyd County's Spring Valley recruit last year moved back to Spring Valley. It may be a game against Ashland after all.

Lol, 100% agree. I knew when Baller earlier wrote that Jason Mays was not a good coach and didn’t know how to develop players that he didn’t know squat about basketball and his ramblings were based on his personal feelings and he had zero credibility speaking of anything basketball related. It’s possible that reading his posts could lower one’s IQ substantially, lol.

This is how out of touch you two are. You do realize that 16th region coaches were refusing to play due to Mays recruiting. Glad you back a cheat and liar and a guy who bashes his own kids. But you think the region is weaker. Your arrogance parallels Mays. Oh yeah. That’s spring valley kid Mays talked to as well. Fact. Mays audio. Keep backing him. You look like fool for doing it. Come watch us play GRC today!  Come support the Cats!! Instead of worshipping Mays!!

Yes.  Lewis County (Tackett just watch his Twitter and see what kinda person he is), East & West, Russell (Cooksey ?) have all cancelled in last year or 2.  Honestly it’s better they don’t play no more teams in the region.  Have you watch any games this year.  I’ve been to several.  JM teams was prepared and executed like most college teams.  Yes the 16th region is weaker because of a school board and superintendent that has a problem with JM and don’t forget a political figure from Elliott.  It’s really sad.   And yes Baller JM talked too much to an idiot dad.   Who some has called his son the next OJ.  Haha

Maybe the Rams will make a run! lol
Raceland has a basketball team? JK but not really.  Raceland has done a good job putting together winning seasons in the past few years but let’s pump the breaks on talking about a run in basketball.

Im hoping it will, but after watching both teams play so far this year, Boyd is a much better team. Now, all the outside factors, drama, tension may come in to play, so who knows.
