Could Betsy Layne be the big Surprise????
#1
With the new coach in place, will they be able to surprise some teams or are we looking for an 0-10 season.
#2
They will compete with Allen Central and tteams of that caliber. Good luck to them.

I can assure everyone that the expectations from the coaching side are GREAT. I plan on being competitive in all 10 games on our schedule. With the staff and players we will have "High Expectations" beginning on July 10, 2006.

Coach B, congratulations and good luck in your job.
I really like the excitement we've heard over the last few days.
Great attitude...high expectations...I like it.

Realistically though, it's going to be extremely tough, if not impossible to be competitive in all 10 with such a late hire....Rome wasn't built in a day and neither has been ANY successful football team or program.

Sounds like a program renewal going on at Betsy Layne.

no

No, but well see in a couple of years if they let coach B alone.

The same ol' situation. So tired of hearing every time Magoffin or B .L. gets a new coach, seeing the ? of " Are they going to turn it around?" Well, it has been 25 years or more of this, and guess what, IT HAS NEVER CAME CLOSE TO BEING TURNED AROUND!!! STATS DON'T LIE PEOPLE, SO BEFORE YOU TRY TO BASH ME BECAUSE I TELL THE TRUTH, LOOK AT THE RECORDS, BECAUSE ONE THING ABOUT IT......STATS DON'T LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Playboy5,

I have to disagree with your statement. The last coach was changing things around but his actions off the field kept him from coming back. The reason I think things are looking bright

1. Middle school is looking the best it has ever have.
2. Great up and coming class.
3. New coach with plenty of experience.
4. The last year before they enter the district.

I think it has been ten years since the bobcats looked this good. When Coach Derossett coached them.
#10
It all starts at the middle school level, and that seems to be the main problem with most teams, especially the smaller school, is the lack of interest in the middle school programs! I wish B.L. the best of luck!
#11
I believe that you have to go before middle school if you want to have a GREAT program. Little League programs need to be in place and be strong!

Does BL have a chance? No, not this season nor the next 2-3, IMO. But as long as there is improvment in the team over these next 3 years and the community/BOE supports the program and COACH then things might turn around! Building community support is a HUGE factor. Look at any strong program in the state and see how many community members they have at thier games.

I wish you and your team the best of luck Coach B!

The middle school program is never been better. For the past five years the grade school program was on the incline. This year is their first chance since the Honakers boys that they have a chance at the Grade school championship. They have a dedicated coach with a true love for the program.
#13
Wasn't Boyle Co. built in a day...lol
#14
Maybe 1 win! Maybe !
#15
Looking at the bobcats schedule
Possible wins

Allen Central?
Magoffin County?
Pineville?
Phelps?
Jenkins?
Powell County?
#16
Well, with a schedule like that, they might get a couple of wins, but it would take a couple of years to get "good"
#17
I don't expect anything from Betsy Layne this year or in the future when it comes to football but I hope they prove me wrong. I'm all for BL building their football program up into a consistent winner.

Good luck to the coaches and players...

I would love to see this program get strong. But i do agree with beef, the best thing they could do is get the entire community behind them and let the players see it. You know what I mean, it will give them just a litte more in the fourth quater to know they are out there for the fans.

Youre right u have to have the 12th man !

I told Coach B the other day that IMO that would be his biggest challenge because that community has been beaten down for so long for whatever reason when it comes to HS football that the majority of them just dont ever expect to win. When apathy replaces hope its hard to get it back.
#21
Having known both players and coaches @ Betsy Layne it comes down to the community and administration making a commitment to this young players..Remeber Betsy Layne did beat teams like pburg, sc, morgan co., sf, ac, east carter, paintsville, and some of the other top teams in this region when the commitment of tha administration and the community was as it should be. These young men and coaches work hard but all of the time come up short due to insufficent funds and lack of backing from adiminstration and community. Remember there was a time when Coach Hall and Coach DeRossett fielded winning programs at this insitution. Go Bobcats
#22
no probably not Confusedhithappe
#23
So..tell me about Betsy Layne someone..About the football team/players/new style..
#24
I can speak for the administration, they are on board with us. I also feel that with dedicated fans like you Buckeye, we can bring the 12th man into the game. I also believe that we can bring "Pride back to the Hill". We also WILL build a program that not only Betsy Layne, but ALL of Floyd County will be proud of.

I dont think they will go 0-10 they should win a few games
#26
BL will win some this year they have alot of speed some great QB's and a HUGE LINE i think almost 2,000 pounds on the line with shannon and bo hamilton almost 950 pounds put toether themselves. with that great line and a fast and accurate back field the bobcats will turn some heads this year and make a future for the team.
