Newport Central Catholic at Pikeville-semis 11/25
#1
NCC is coming to Pikeville the day after Thanksgiving and they are going to show the Eastern Kentucky boys what Northern Kentucky football is all about. NCC has played a much tougher schedule than Pikeville and the Panthers won't be prepared for the kind of athletes the 'Breds have all over the field.

NCC 23, Pikeville 6 on a score in garbage time.

Just kidding lol. Pikeville big.

Game is at 7:00 which is a slight change for Panther loyalists.

I love Jet’s unbridled enthusiasm.
Huge test for the Panthers Fri night.
They better come to play. New Cath literally gave the Beechies all they could handle and if that don’t open the Panthers eyes then I’m not sure what will. Haven’t been able to watch any film yet, looking forward to that Wed night and Thursday morning and I’ll give my best guess on how things look.

I believe Pikeville can win but they have to do it on the field. NCC has a very good team with athletes at all the skill positions. Definitely going to be a good game and I can’t wait for Friday night GO PANTHERS!!!
#5
Don’t look too much into the NCC/Beechwood score. NCC’s only TD was on a kick return and Beechwood’s QB fumbled fumbled on the 1 inch line on a sneak.

It should’ve been 36-3 and it was never really close.

Pikeville names the score in this one.

Defiantly going to be  a great game for Pikeville. Going to be a stern test, but if they remain focused and play their game, then Panthers win. Friday can't get here quick enough! Sick

I’m going off memory but wasn’t the score just 6 -3 at the half and didn’t New Cath also have another KO returned for a TD called back?
I could be wrong about that but I’m planning on watching it tomorrow night after I get finished at work.

Newport Cath is VERY similar to Raceland on offense and their QB can throw it. They also have one of the better slot receivers in 1A. Kid has great hands. To beat the Panthers they will have to get a turnover or two, a TD on special teams, and a couple 3 and outs. It’s a LONG trip coming from northern KY and Hillard Howard field is a tough please to drag out a win. Panthers win 32-14

NCC has all the things needed to upset Pikeville. Experienced staff, experienced players, atheletes everywhere. Strong fan base thats not worried about traveling and a storied tradition of championships and big game experience. All of that has this game set up to be a clas.....

Nope. They got all that but not enough.

NCC was a pain in the @ss for Corbin in the postseason  multiple times back a couple decades ago.

I remember when they were very good and then it fell off alittle and now they have a good team and Pikeville better not take them lightly or it could be bad. I have only watched 3 of their games and they do a lot of things very good but if Pikeville plays the way they can I believe they win. NCC has a good running attack with actually 3 backs and the quarterback can run too plus he throws a really good ball. Like you said they could be a pain in the butt

NCC was my darkhorse coming into the season. They were due. They had a 20 year run and finally ran out of steam. The move to 2A didnt matter, they were going to have a rebuild any way. I knew though it was a matter of time before they became relevant again. Too much history and too many resources in NKY for them not to. They are without a doubt a team that can beat Pikeville and Raceland both. I think they are still a year away from really contending though. But they have a stacked up loaded jr bunch. Take em lightly and no one will get there Pikeville Raceland match up.
#14
NCCs OL is really atheletic. I will be interested to see who wins the battle in the trenches. Pikeville will outweigh them by a metric ton, but NCC OL can really move.
#15
Pikeville has two big bruisers in 73 and 75 but 55, 62, and now 52 playing guard instead of 77 are all fast slender type build guys.

2 days before the game and as much as it pains me to get another 2 days older I can’t wait for Friday and tomorrow’s practice is one of these young men’s greatest memories so enjoy it guys because there are a lot of teams not experiencing this but this old man (and my brother) will be there to cheer for you guys. We all know there is good and bad in these playoff games so 1 will have 1 more game and the other does not so Panthers play your game and leave it all on the field and it all will be fine but as always GO PANTHERS!!!

Stayed up late tonight and watched the Beechwood and KCD games……New Cath is very capable of sending the Panthers to the house. They got really nice skill, very athletic upfront and have a big qb who throws it well and is capable of beating you with his legs, also in short yardage situations have a big space eater that they throw in on that DL that is tough to move. Last game at Hambley for these seniors and if they don’t come out mentally ready to play then it could be their last game period. Should be a fun one. Congrats to all the teams that are fortunate enough to be practicing on Thanksgiving, lots of kids never get to experience that and it really is special. Good luck to both teams on an injury free game and safe travels to New Cath.

Pikeville hasn't really been tested the last several weeks, the Breds seem to be a solid team and I think NewCath will give them a good game. If the Panthers are fortunate enough to win and advance to the championship game then a close battle could pay a nice dividend against a very good Raceland team.

NCC is for real. Pikeville is the only true mountain team left. Beechwood/NKY used to come down here and own EKY. They have not been to the mountains in a while but from what I read online NCC expects to come down and own again. I wouldn't start a fight with this senior class from Pikeville but maybe they are current country. Do they just look the part?

Pikeville 49 NCC 14. Running Clock. NCC scores an early TD and 2nd one on the 2nd/3rd team Defense.

Game Day!
#23
It’s GAME DAY Panthers, this is where you guys devoted your time and preparation for this spring and actually even before that in the weight room until now. The great privilege of a state championship game is one game away but not only for you guys but also for NCC so don’t think they are coming to lose. So it’s up to you guys, you have to want more than them, that means if you get knocked down you get back up and play the next play. For the last for weeks ts not been as hard as it’s getting ready to get so buckle up young men this is definitely going to be a test. All gas no brakes and no plays off and this old Panther fan will be there to cheer for you guys if it’s God’s will love you guys and good luck and as always GO PANTHERS!!!

Was hoping for a breakdown of film by MB

NCC likes to run outside find a seam and cut upfield.
Also their coach said they were committed to stopping Birchfield.
NCC pass defense bad look for a couple TD passes tonight and defense will come to play again

Well not much to say other than NCC is a very solid team. Pikeville will have to play well to win in all 3 phases of the game. I do think there’s some things Pikeville can do offensively to have some success and I honestly have no inside info on what the game plan from the staff may be but I won’t get into the details of my thoughts just in case it’s similar as to not give too much away. Defensively Pikeville has to shut their running game down and then go from there. If Pikeville forces NCC to throw it 25 times or more, I really like Pikeville’s chances. All it takes is a big sack or an interception then things can snowball. Like I’ve said in the past unfortunately they don’t let me decide who wins. And to quote Patty 1 , Go Panthers!!!

Looking for another Panther victory tonight and NCC is not making a trip to Hambley for nothing. Our young men have got to show them who the better team is right out there on the field. Simply put, this Panther team hasn't come this far to go no farther. That goal is at Kroger Field and this team has got to fight for it. Give it your all Panthers!!     HAIL PIKEVILLE!!
