Pistons Lose Wallace to Bulls, Sign Ex-Wildcat Mohammed

DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Pistons reached an agreement with free-agent center Nazr Mohammed on Tuesday, a day after losing Ben Wallace to the Chicago Bulls, a person within the NBA told The Associated Press.
The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because NBA free agents can't officially sign until July 12, said the team and Mohammed, who played for Kentucky from 1995-98, orally agreed to a five-year contract - with the final year an option - that will pay him about $5 million next season. Mohammed started 30 games last season for the San Antonio Spurs, averaging 6.2 points and 5.2 rebounds. The 6-foot-10, 250-pound center most likely will replace Wallace in the starting lineup, allowing Rasheed Wallace to remain a power forward.

Mohammed, who turns 29 on Sept. 5, probably will not be able to rebound, block shots and provide energy as Ben Wallace did - but he will cost about $9 million less next season.

Well this is the answer to Big Ben!

He was a good player for the Spurs when David Robinson retired !
#4
Will this hurt or help the pistons.
#5

he can score and shoot free throws better then big ben, but hes not as good of a rebounder/defender......honestly, i see it as a push...

A PUSH??????????? NAZR for BIG BEN? I HAVE REALLY SEEN IT ALL NOW!
#8
He will put up about 10 pts a game but not as many rebounds or blocks !
#9
I think he will be a good fit in Detroit, but wont put up the numbers that Ben did.

heck yeh its a push. big ben plays defense against people 6 inches taller then he is, and rebounds. nazr pushes big guys around, rebounds, and can score.....honestly, i dont see detroit losing anything after the big ben loss....

They lost everything when Ben left he was the heart of that team Nazr will not help at all

They didn't even come close to losing everything, yeah Ben was good on the defensive end and that matters alot but he didn't do anything on the offensive side of the ball. Nazr is a decent player at both ends so they shouldn't be much of a drop off from losing Ben. They still have Rip,Chauncey,Rasheed and Tayshaun which means the Pistons will be fine.

Do you all think Tayshaun will be an All-Star next season ?
