Corbin-Franklin County : The Ultimate "Trap" Game ???
#1
I know, I know , you say how could a state- semi  game ever be a trap game ? Surely,  the favorite would be poised and focused for a chance to play the following week on Kroger Field for a state championship.  But , here me out.

The Johnson Central game is one that Hounds had been primed for since November of last season when the Golden Eagles ended Corbin's season for the second year in a row. They knew the likelihood was good that they would meet JC again and so much thought and preparation went in to getting ready for that titanic matchup. That regional win last night was a year in the making. Now, it's done and there's a somewhat unexpected, but familiar foe awaiting in the Franklin County Flyers.

Franklin is a team that has had it's struggles this season. They were all but written off by a lot of folks weeks ago.  Corbin won easily last season by 20 at home and then pummelled them  40-20 earlier in the season, in a game that wasn't nearly that close.  In a three-game stretch, beginning with the Corbin game, the Flyers were outscored  120-49 . Throw in a week 10 thrashing by Central  24-0 and it would be easy for the Hounds to write off Franklin as a non-threat and look forward to Boyle County and Kroger Field.

Now, Boyle County is likely gonna be awaiting if Corbin passes next week's test.  Is it unrealistic to assume that 16 and 17 year-old kids might be looking forward a bit to playing the team that most pundits  have had ranked either #1 or #2 , along with you ,  all season long ?  Not only that but it's your former coach, who has been winning state title after state title since trading in his Corbin Red & Silver for the Black & Gold of Boyle.

Bookend games with Johnson Central and potentially Boyle County, makes the game in the middle, with a perceived "also-ran,"  a very dangerous game, in my opinion.  Franklin has a star RB in Kaden Moorman, who can carry a team on his back. Teams with superstars like Moorman are extra dangerous because he can generate points all on his own.

I think it would behoove the Redhounds to be as primed and focused for Franklin County as they were for Johnson Central.  We've seen it in sports innumerable times. When have a let down from an emotional game the previous week or you look forward to a huge game the following week,  you have a recipe for a premature and unexpected end to a season.

Not saying it will happen, but I am saying it wouldn't be the first time that a team has looked ahead and got bitten for doing so. What do you all think? I think this is a real trap game for Corbin. They better be ready to play a really good Franklin County team for 48 minutes or they may be viewing Kroger Field from home, rather than from the sidelines.

What do some of you think?  Do you view this as a trap game or do you think it's impossible for a state semi to be a trap game?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Well, I thought about this very thing this morning. Franklin is just a team that most has written off except themselves and there coach. They have played quality opponents and here at this point in the season, you have to play a battle tested team that has seen it all. Like you said, they have a star in Kaden Moorman and other nice looking athletes. I think they come into this game with nothing to lose because they have been written off... I think they are a big threat and JC knows this the past two years as they lost 1 and almost lost last year but retook the lead and escaped. One thing I like is the game will be played in Corbin. Hopefully that Corbin crowd might be the difference along with how good the boys have been playing. I think the nerves were in the last game, I think this game they just need to keep doing what they have been doing and they will be fine. Corbin is playing at a very high level right now. I still  think Corbin wins the game, but I do expect Franklin County to play as good as JC did last night.

If Franklin county pulls out the win Corbin fans will remember the name Peyton Ledford no doubt in my mind he will wreak havoc on the defensive side of things I just don’t know if that’ll be enough to stop Corbin’s explosive offense.

ANY team that is this deep in the postseason deserves respect. And ANY team that looks past another team this deep in the postseason is asking for trouble.

Play at Kroger after you have qualified. Concentrating on playing at Kroger before you qualify, and you just may get to watch the title game from the bleachers.

You've seen Franklin Co a lot more than I have. What are their chances of winning this one? I know they've played some really good teams. They're battle tested.
#8
Corbin with a running clock. Shouldn’t be close. I could see another shut out.
#9
I wonder how many Franklin Co players will be suspended from the brawl with Warren East. That would have an impact.
I agree this is the ultimate trap game but I think the talent disparity and home field will be enough for Corbin to prevail.
I could see Franklin, if they aren't hurt too much by suspensions, keeping it close for awhile but Corbin should pull away in 2nd half

Lest we forget:

LHL Preseason Rankings:

1.  Boyle
2. JC
3. Franklin Co.
4. Corbin

" I look for Franklin to be right in the thick of 4A come late November. Could be the second best team in 4A just behind Boyle. "

Folks,  maybe we let losses to Scott Co. , Corbin,   Ballard, and Woodford Co.  cloud our better judgement . Those teams aren't exactly chopped liver.   Franklin Co. is well-coached, have a star RB  and is battle tested  after playing some very tough opponents.

Somebody go ahead and get me a ticket for Corbin game at Kroger Field please? Smile

Franklin is awful
Their Star RB has basically quit this year and doesn’t even try
Corbin will go ahead and finish him off.

Corbin wins with running clock

Then everyone who wanted Franklins coach can go eat crap. Corbin’s coaches have proved that.

We have our hands full with Corbin, but I think we are a different team. My guess is you are too with handling JC like you did. Our series with Corbin has been all Corbin we have been embarrassed twice. So time will tell..

Big Grin I like you FCSPY we’ve had some really good conversations but I’m not sure your gonna get any of us Hounds to go along with your under dog role.  Especially those taking the field next Friday night, but I do hope we have another exciting injury free game.  Once again directions or food advice give me a shout I’ll do my best to help as I’m sure most the Corbin posters will, prayers for safe travels see you all Friday…

I haven’t seen any actual score predictions so I’ll take Corbin 35-21 I believe it’ll be closer than some think.

I think Franklin is a really good team that is capable of an upset in this game if certain things go their way.  The Central game gives me pause, though. I picked Franklin to win that one but they got dismantled by a good, but certainly not great, Central team. What happened in that one?

All 4 teams are battled test. Any can win on any giving night. I think both these games are a toss up. My heart thinks Corbin and Boyle meets at kroger field but wouldn't be surprised if it's Franklin and central. These young men have put in alot blood and sweat for their schools and I respect them for that. I pray for a Happy Thanksgiving and a injury free game on Friday along with safe travels ?.

I would rate Corbin and Boyle solid favorites but I believe Franklin and Central are both very capable of pulling off an upset.

Past is the past. Corbin and JC was all JC until this year. I don’t expect to see the same team I saw in August. As for us, our offense has “opened”’ the playbook and just looks crisp. It could have been better last week, but credit JC for the run D and the cold I guess for dropped passes. Our D… if our D right now played that August game, I don’t think FC would score 20, but that’s if their offense was the same, which I don’t expect to be the case at all Friday. Luckily, if weather is a factor this game, it would effect both teams, unlike last week with JC where it don’t effect the run game a whole lot. I’m hoping we’ll take this about the same as the first game, but it just seems like FC is 1000% more dangerous come November than early season. My heart says 41-14 but my heads saying about 31-24

I know it’s 1 vs 13 and 2 vs 12 and Corbin and Boyle are both solid favorites but we all know damn well there ain’t 11 teams better than FC and Central. People may look at these rpi rankings and think these semis will be blowouts but not realize the murderers row that Franklin and Central have played.

These two teams are VERY capable of pulling the “upset” although at this point of the year I don’t think you can really have an “upset”. Like I said, Corbin has pretty much had their way with Franklin 2 games in a row. There is nothing more dangerous than a team who has that monkey on their back and know that it’s win or go home. Just ask Johnson Central.

As for Boyle, we know they’re good. We know that Justin is going to put one hell of an offense on the field. However, the kryptonite to a good offense is a strong D. Central has that. I think that game can be very similar to UK UGA yesterday where everyone picked UGA to roll but forgot what kind of defense Kentucky has when they are clicking.

I beg to differ. They had a horrible preparation for the JC game last year, plus they let their egos get in the way of doing what's best for the kids. Too much internal strife. They let the kids down. But this is a new season and  it's been fun to watch. The kids seem focused and unified for the goal of winning a championship.

I wish the two Corbin Franklin threads could be merged. I never know which one to read.

We should just have a mod close this one. Or
The other it don’t matter. I’m with ya tho. 1 to many. But at the time old school created this there wasn’t an actual game thread.

Quit whining and making it obvious you are a coach. Corbin still needs a coach that's not a whiner Smile
