I know there is a very high probability of scoring there from the 2 yard line, plus you get to tick off a little more time. However, mistakes do happen and a turnover there gives JC the ball down only one score. Not saying it was right or wrong, just thought it was an interesting call. You know the old saying about never taking points off the board.
I hated it but it was a good decision, but I didn’t like the fake field goal if I’m a Corbin fan the kids good for it from there and beyond why not take the momentum earlier instead of doing a trick play with a ball that probably felt like a center block with how cold it was tonight.

Thanks for bringing that play up. That's another one that I'd like to hear folks' opinions on.
I’m 50/50 on that play. It’s hard to take points off the board when you’re up 2 scores in the 4th. It’s a little more risky than I would like but with the offense moving it like they were, I had no doubt they would get 6. I was just scared to death that they would fumble.

As for the fake fg, it was a good play call. I’m normal whether there is no doubt Baker can hit that from between the hashes. That said, not only did the ball feel like a cinder block to catch, it’s hard as a rock to kick and in that heavy air, 48 yards would be a chore for even the state and possibly nations best. Take your shot and trust the D. It all worked out plus gives teams stuff to worry about.

Yeah but his kicking leg has a complete torn acl. He still touched it out with a knee brace and done what he could do with the given situation.

Gold honestly that’s one of those, if would have worked you probably wouldn’t hear much about it. I’m 50/50 on that one I mean he was open, but I don’t think I could choose if you made me one way or another.

I think I'm okay with the fake on the FG try.  It was a cold night, easy to mishandle a snap, plus I think they were at the 30 so it would have been about a 47 yarder. The play was there to be made. Just little off on the pass. I'm okay with it. If we would have connected on that play, it's probably history with a 28-7 lead.

I think if Corbin coaches made a decision….it’s by the GRACE OF GOD that the kids were able to overcome it and win!!!

(is that the right answer?!!)

Sarge….I have to introduce myself to get MAMA’s PIZZA???

Also, looks like someone was reading this forum. Maybe they’ve done it before but tonight was the first time I heard a train whistle be played. Nice addition.

Sucks we lost our shut out wave, but you’re right. Defense played bigggg to night. I honestly thought JC would have more sacks than we did tackle for loss. Last year was on my mind I guess. Thanks Defense proving me wrong!! They looked like the real hitmen of Lynn camp creek. Oh yea, your boy about owed me a beer. About as in about 6in hahah.  But I’ll let it slide cause he was knocking heads off while being held 90% of the game.  And one of those Kickoffs, I was behind the other goal post but it looked like it had To be right on the goal line and JC was running off the field.
Man when I seen that I was like , “ oh sh$t the ball is live and their running to the side line. Lol

Great season, young Golden Eagles. Nothing to be ashamed of here.

Go beat Boyle and win it, Redhounds.

I get what you’re saying but I’m more confident in the kicker kicking a cold ball with a sock and cleat on I believe the temperature of bare skin plays a lot into it feeling like a cinder block. I just don’t think if you have a team that good and a lead a trick play isn’t the move that deep into the territory if you wanna pass the ball why not just go for it and lob one up you’re gonna get better blocks and what not than a fake field goal but if I’m the coaches I’m gonna take easy 3. I’m a big baker fan you could tell the whole game he was willing to do whatever it took to win especially on defense him and the Israel kid was swarming like bees.

To be honest. He got really lucky on that one because I watched him, his head wasn’t even facing the ball. Actually his back was too it. Another 6in and that’s TD

Hound5, I'm trying to remember (memory isn't what it once was).  Did Moorman play in the game we played Frankin this year in Frankfort and ,if so, was he effective at all ?

He did. I’m not gonna say he wasn’t effective. Because it’s like saying was JC’s backfield effective in any game imaginable. He was, the best you can do is hope to slow it down. And we did. He still gashed some big yards from us from time to time. But for the most part we took his ability out of the game

Don’t know where they where from and don’t care like Bull said the one closest to the white hat made it obvious, I’m not gonna wish any bad Karma but….Over 50 years watching and participating in football, while I don’t doubt it’s actually a penalty, I’ve never never seen roughing the snapper actually enforced.  The timing of everyone of his flags against Corbin in the 1st half just seemed way to coincidental and crooked…..

He had 9 Carry’s for 106 and a TD. Which for a defense ain’t to bad. As a team they had 214 rushing and 130 passing.

We’re about to see who has developed more!! On the field and sideline. I know our D had gotten way better. But one would think their offense has too?!

Just wanted to wish Johnson Central the best of luck going forward their kids played hard physical football, they was some wood being laid tonight fellas. Them young men have nothing to hang their heads about they never gave up not even in the last minute….Anyway How bout dem HOUNDS….

Hah funny you said that. My wife asked what in the world did they call? And I responded about the same. Never in my life at any level have I seen that call. Plus the 2 flags BOTH on 4th down. That one and when we had the goal line stand. Like you said, it was awful coincidental but sometimes you have to work with that. I still can’t believe we played LCC who held like crazy, and JC who wasn’t near as bad but was holding our OLBs from
scraping and not one holding call in two games. People are right, refs at Corbin are horrible hahah. Just not in their context

One other question, what in the name of Hoot Gibson's Leap chair happened on that long pass play by JC ?  I had turned my back for a few seconds only to see a JC player sprinting wide open to the endzone. Was it a blown assignment or did Central disguise something to get him open. Looked like no one was within twenty yards of him.
Either we were playing a zone or someone didn’t pick up the TE.

Fellas it’s been fun. JC… great game. Played hard. Good luck. Hoot, it’s been fun. I hope you find a worthy archenemy in 5A. You still might be the winner in all of this because my a$$ is still froze! I’m calling it a night. Gotta get back in them woods tomorrow
#54
BTW I’m not sure who finally convinced the coaches that #4 can catch the ball, but thank you he was a flat out stud tonight…
#55
No one has mentioned one of the most important plays of the game. First quarter... JC has chewed up more than half of the quarter on their opening drive. Fumble on the goal line. That was a huge momentum shift early on. A TD there and, who knows?
#56
Congrats Corbin !!!

I would have LOVED to have seen this game in person; especially with questionable refs. I would've been foaming at the mouth!!

I have so much respect for both these teams, and it's a shame that one had to lose. Both teams work hard and never ever give up!! That first fumble by JC inside the red zone made my heart skip a beat and I would NEVER take points off the board. But what do I know? I've never coached football, only enjoyed the game from the bleachers!

So congratulations to the Golden Eagles on their season and successes. God speed to their Seniors.

Congratulations to the Red Hounds, who are still alive. Bring home the title!

This (Squib) kicking is something I do not understand, unless I'm going crazy years back high school athletes could routinely put the ball in the end zone, then all of a sudden the kick off became the squib kick. Did coaches start taking the chance on a fumbled ball, or did kids legs get weaker. I do remember shoes, straps, and other oddities that kickers would use, (Were those banned) in 1983 we had a kicker that always kicked the ball in or out of the end zone, our D started with 3/4 of the field behind us. Now offenses normally start with only 1/2 the field to move down to score. I'd take the real estate to defend, over the chance of a fumble.

You're a tater sack blower upper. I've seen very few high school kickers that can kick it into the end zone every time.
