Ordinarily, I'd pull for our district rival Wayne in this one but I'm wanting JC to receive their nice parting gifts when they leave Corbin in two weeks. Go Eagles!!!

Wayne County is a good football team, but doubtful they can pull a shocker at Johnson Central. I noticed in researching this game that Johnson Central has thrown 31 passes this entire season while running the ball 495 times. That alone makes me believe they are too one-dimensional to win 4A this season.

Seems like Corbin had those same thoughts the last 2 years so I guess there are some left over parting gifts.

Has Johnson Central ever thrown many passes. NO. They are not going to beat you by passing. They do it in the trenches and in the running game and defense.

Johnson Central does not pass much and never have. They have been in the state 4A finals in 6 of the past 7 years and won two titles. If they fail to win the title this season, it will not because of their passing game, it will be because their opponent is able to contain the top rushing offense in the state.

Johnson Central has not been as effective passing this season as in some past seasons. Their quarterback has a strong arm but his completion percentage could be better. In most seasons, JC rarely passes but often averages 30+ yards per completion, with a high percentage of completed passes ending in a touchdown. This season, they have had more success with short passes to their running backs.

You got to be very good at being one dimensional if that’s your style. Or just be better than everyone else talent wise. It’s worked out for them some. Had a lot of talent suited to that style come through. But give them credit, they adapted to the type of athletes that have come through there. Honestly I think if they tried to run a spread or a high passing offense, they wouldn’t win much, just like other teams can’t replicate their offense. Plus it’s not just lining up and running left or right. They do that veer crap that’s hard to defend if you got the personnel

JC has had plenty of talent to play any style that they chose and been successful. As Woody Hayes said, "only three things can happen when you pass and two of them are bad." Johnson Central chose the type of offense that they have because Coach Matney played and was later an assistant coach at Belfry and he had success using it at Sheldon Clark before taking the Johnson Central job.

Johnson Central is successful running the offense because of hard work and excellent coaching. They have been very good at defending against running offenses because they usually have one of the top running offenses in the state to practice against. Another thing that has been instrumental in building a successful program has been that the coaches at JC have not pressured athletes to specialize in a single sport. Wrestling and football compliment each other perfectly and many of JC's top players over the years have been outstanding wrestlers and football players, including J.J. Jude, Joe Jackson, Zack McCoart, and current head coach Jesse Peck.

Johnson Central's quarterbacks have always been underrated because they do not pass often. It takes a lot of skill to run JC's offense and most of the quarterbacks have been outstanding runners and very efficient passers. The passing has been less efficient this season, but this is the deepest, most talented group of running backs that Johnson Central has ever had, IMO.

Time out. You think that Corbin boyle teams like that can just switch over to JCs offense and be successful? I’m not talking mid season. But say start of next year?

I hope they beat us if it’s that close but would it really be the biggest upset of the playoffs if Corbin is predicted to beat Johnson central by all but a running clock.

Who predicted Corbin to beat Johnson Central by a running clock?

This Wayne County team confuses me... I still can't get over them going for it and it 4th and 9 to start the game inside there own territory....So JC better get ready for 4th and long going for it...

Hold up. Now see here’s the problem. Who said Corbin was gonna beat JC by a running clock?

people just conjure up stuff that no one said. Then they use as part of their arguments!  And it happens a lot! Especially to redhound fans. I’m not saying you did this Gold, I could have very well passed over it,but I haven’t seen anyone say Corbin will put a running clock on JC. Most aren’t even saying anything about a JC game. We’ve got a tough opponent this Friday. Or that’s what eagles fans have said. I think they’ll be tough as well though

Yea that was a real head scratcher. I
dont know if they felt like they had the momentum. Or if their coach thought, we’ll this is make or break for the entire game right here. You give us good field position, we’re gonna take advantage of it. Ask MR. KENTON

If that question is for me, then I don't know how you misunderstood my post so badly. Coach Matney put together a staff over the years that were and are the best at teaching lineman their role in the offense that JC runs. Do Corbin and Boyle have coaches on staff that specialize in an offense like the one that JC runs? Do Corbin and Boyle County have coaches that pull double duty on the staff of their wrestling teams? If not, then it would be very difficult for them to implement Johnson Central's offense for next season.

Part of the reason why JC running backs are driven backward so rarely is the strength and balance that wrestling helps develop. Weightlifting is great, but nothing is better to teach balance than the experience avoiding getting taken down on a wrestling mat. If you watch video highlights of Zack McCoart running, you may see him apparently being tackled, only to catch his fall with a hand and then pop-up and resume running without allowing his knees to hit the ground.

When I said that JC has had the athletes to run any offense that they wanted to run, I was not saying or implying that they could switch to an entirely new offense and immediately enjoy the same level of success that they have had in recent years. All I meant is that Johnson Central has had many great athletes over the years who were capable of excelling in a different system. Johnson Central has a system and its players are expected to fit within that system. Ask anybody who has tried to tackle J.J. Jude, Joe Jackson, or Zack McCoart in the open field about Johnson Central's athleticism or anybody who has been on the receiving end of a Grant Bingham downfield block. Boyle County or Corbin could scrap their programs and emulate Johnson Central's but that would make no sense, considering that their coaches understand their current systems and those systems have also been successful.

To borrow from Dougie,  I'm predicting we smoke their hind ends.  And I'm gonna be at the gate with the lovely parting gifts.

Ok. Then yes I would agree with that statement. I thought you meant in that first sentence that if they just switched over to the spread next year, or last year, or whenever they would have the same success. Now eventually they probably could. But they are geared for what they do and they do it well. Just like boyle, Corbin, Lex or any of them couldn’t switch to a JC offense and enjoy success for probably several years. There’s a lot that goes into an offense like JC’s. There’s a lot that goes into an offense like boyle or Corbin. And both have their own style of player or athleticism that suites what it has to have to work. Honestly imo, I’d think it would take at least 4 years to switch over from one to the other. And I’m low balling. But that’s just my opinion too. So much more goes into each one  other than just play and formation switches. Different drills. Maybe weight programs. Techniques. A lot!

but yes. I misunderstood what you were trying to say
