Scott County went unchallenged in winning the Kentucky High School AAU State Tournament last weekend at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington.

The Cardinals defeated June Buchanan 111-45 in the championship game and won by no less than 35 points in their eight tournament games.

“I like tournaments like that,” Scott County Coach Billy Hicks said. “You win the championship game by 60.”

Scott County posted wins over Cumberland, Boyle County and North Laurel in pool play before defeating Richmond Model, Bishop Brossart, Fern Creek and Sayre to reach the title game.

Lexington Catholic, Madison Central and Tates Creek did not compete in the tournament, as they were entered in a tourney in Frankfort, Hicks said.
Scott County fell in the AAU state semifinals last year to Henry Clay.

In addition to the varsity title, the Cards' JV team won the AAU state 15-and-under championship, going 7-0 to cap a 23-0 summer.

The JV Cards edged St. Xavier 77-76 in the final.

It was Scott County's third-straight appearance in the state AAU JV final.

The Cards' incoming freshman squad, a late addition to the AAU JV state tournament, reached the final eight.

Congrats Scott County.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

That won't get them a trip to Rupp in March!! Good luck in the 11th Cardinals. You need it!!!

I'd be a little more impressed if they had defeated someone like Ballard or South Laurel in the championship game. Scott County is going to be good next year, no doubt about that, but they may not even be the best team in their district. This AAU is not really a state-wide tournament of all the best teams. Other tournaments are taking away some of the better and high profiled teams. But with that said, it is impressive the way they blew away all their opponents.

Congrats to S.C

There must not have been alot of competition in this tournament, i guarentee in march they will not win the state championship by this much, is Scott Co. really that good or was the competition really that weak??(anyone feel free to comment), I know if JBS made it to the final game the competition must have been really weak, not knocking JBS but I really dont see them making it to the state championship(in march) anytime soon, not saying they will not win the 14th region, thats quiet possible but statewide i really don't think so...I'd like to see it, but realistically I don't see it.
