There has been some confusion where I live about senate bill 128. I was told that any kid who is the right age can still get that extra year is that true? I have had several parents ask me about this and I really don’t know what to tell them

From what I just read on the bill it states that this was for the 2021-2022 school year only to use as a supplement year if you were enrolled during the 2020-2021 school year.
There are no other outstanding bills regarding the supplemental school year that I have seen on the website. I would say let your kids move on to the next grade or graduate.

I wish all boy parents would do the right thing and do this in the lower grades. Kids can play other sports into adulthood: golf; tennis; cross country; even baseball(men’s league softball)- however, 99% of all who ever play football are done after high school. Then, it’s work, bills, taxes…. Give all your sons another year of being a kid. Just my opinion; especially since boys lag a little bit on maturity behind girls.

I can remember we would beat teams in baseball in little league senior league because it went by age and then get to high school and play same team and they would have 4 or 5 kids starting that was older than us. There is definitely some confusion on this issue because I have heard coaches talk about seniors possibly coming back next year. We had a lot of kids fill out paperwork but never repeated a grade yet. It may be different per school board.

Why don’t we end all this and start all kids a year later in school? From all the stats I’ve came across kids that enter college at 19 stand a better chance of finishing college. Kids that go on into college and play sports seem to stick it out 4 years when entering college at 19. Why not rethink this process and have all kids graduating high school at 19 ??

Why not rethink this process and have all kids graduating high school at 19 ??I agree with having a later start, especially with boys. I graduated when I was as 18 but was held back when I was in the 3rd grade. Looking back I really had no business being in my original grade. I have an August birthday and I started school when I just turned 5 when the rest of the kids were going on 6. That doesn’t seem like a huge difference but it really was. After being held back and going through the rest of school I realized that I was no where near the level of maturity that the kids in my original grade were at and I got along with the kids in my “new grade” much better than my original grade.
