Mayfield RPI path after week 7
#1
So after 7 weeks of football things are still looking odd with the RPI.. kinda curious what changes continue to happen over next three weeks.. As it stands right now, disregarding the human factor, after 7 weeks of football here is Mayfields potential path to the title game, and honestly it looks the hardest for sure.. coming in at #2 seed Mayfield gets homefield all the way to state game as would Beechwood #1seed..  earlier in the year it looked as tho the other two in the final four would pan out to be LCA an O Cath...  Oddly, looking at numbers only, neither of them will fill the shoes we thought they would.. now we know at least LCA healthy is a better team than RPI states an O Cath is still a wild card on that as well but Mayfield could play both these schools before the final four gets here..
With potentially the hardest path to the state finals, Mayfield's schedule would be as follows......

- Round 1, district 2 #4 seed O Cath. Looking at the current RPI District 2 teams are at the top of the list( and we know this should change with district play) but right now O Cath is #4 outta that district giving them Mayfield in round 1. Wow what a premiere game this could be in round one.
- Round 2, district 2 #3 seed Butler Co. Butler currently sets at #3 in the 2nd district in RPI an most likely will knock off Murray in round one (maybe, maybe not). Lets say they do.
- Round 3, district 4 LCA..  as of now LCA is 10th overall in 2a RPI.  Coming in at the lowest seed in the west side of the state for round 3 will send them to War Memorial to play the Cardinals. McLean would play Somerset
- Round 4, district 2 McLean. I think as the numbers go Mclean beats Somerset an earns the trip back to the Region at Mayfield. Otherside of the final 4 would be Beechwood vs Breathitt.
- Round 5 Mayfield vs Beechwood

The gauntlet of teams to the State game
#6 rpi Owensboro Catholic
#5 rpi Butler County
#10 rpi (but we all know top 2 in 2a) LCA
#3 rpi McLean County
#1 rpi Beechwood

Now yes I realize things can an will change but as of week 7 this is the road to the title for the Cardinals..

RPI doesn't kick in until semi state as I understand it. There is no scenario where Mf and Ocath play in the 1st round. Is this supposed to be hypothetical?

RPI does kick in 3rd round among regions 1-4 and 5-8. 4th round gets RPIed again with whole state. 1st 2 rounds are against sister districts.

Yeah, O-Cath is already 2-0 in district play so I don't see many (if any) scenario where they come in as the 4 seed.

Ok.... so walk me through this then ... iv asked this question an no one can anwser me... an i have no clue where my head was at, you are totally right.. whoops... scratch it..smh
So
Dist1
1.mayfield
2.murray
3.fort camp
4. Caldwell
Dist 2
1.o cath
2.mclean
3. handcock
4. Butler
Round 1
1v4
2v3
3v2
4v1
Lets say round one winners are
#1mayfield
#3 handcock
#2 mclean
#1 o cath
Out of the two number ones mayfield an ocath who plays who in the second round an how is that determined?..
#5
Round One:
Game 1: D1#1 vs D2#4
Game 2: D2#2 vs D1#3
Game 3: D2#3 vs D1#2
Game 4: D1#4 vs D2#1

Round Two:
Winner of Game 1 vs Winner of Game 2
Winner of Game 3 vs Winner of Game 4

I believe out of the proposed scenario the round 2 matchups would be Mayfield vs McLean & Hancock vs OCath.

Given that you're assumed seeding there holds true, the most likely scenario for Mayfield would probably be something like this:

Round 1: Butler Co.
Round 2: Hancock Co.
Quarterfinals: Probably winner of Somerset v. Metcalfe/Green Co. depending on how that district turns out.
Semifinals: Gets foggy here. Assuming things stay as they currently sit I would think it would be Breathitt County travelling to play you guys here, with LCA going to Beechwood. LCA may jump Breathitt though, in which case they would travel to War Memorial. This of course assumes LCA beats Owensboro Catholic which is not a given.
Finals: Beechwood, book it.

Ok... see everyone i ask says something different..lol.. im staying confused... gurr...

You have it
Round 1
D1 #1(mayfield) vs D2 #4 (butler)
D2 #2(mclean) vs D1 #3 (ft camp)
Round 2
Mayfield vs Mclean
Round 1
D2 #3(hancock) vs D1 #2(murray)
D1 #4(Caldwell) vs D2 #1(o cath)
Round 2
O Cath vs Hancock

Others have it
R1
D1 #1 vs D2 #4
D1 #2 vs D2 #3
R2 mayfield vs hancock
R1
D1 #3 vs D2 #2
D1 #4 vs D2 #1
R2 ocath vs mclean
Which would yeild a different set of games for round 2.. hearing 5 different senerios is keeping me so confused. After finally finding this on khsaa website it appears as this last senerio is the way it will look.. as it stands right now in week 7

R1
Mayfield vs butler

R2
Mayfield vs Hancock

R3
Mayfield vs Metcalf

R4

R5
Mayfield vs Beechwood...

As a former player and a fan of Beechwood it would be awesome if the Tigers and Cards met in the finals! The 2 best programs in 2a meeting again!

You're right, it does look like you're getting different answers.  I am certainly no expert, but the way that I laid it out is how I always remember it being and looking back at the playoff brackets on the KHSAA website, the last time we did cross-districts (2018) it was as I laid it out.

In the 2018 bracket District 1 seeding was (1) Mayfield (2) Murray (3) Ballard (4) Webster and District 2 was (1) OCath (2) McLean (3) Todd (4) Hancock.  I posted the link to it below and tried to attach a picture of it

https://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/k...ent_169002

I should add that 2018 was before the RPI, I believe, so this year wouldn't be an exact replica of 2018 but my understanding is that the RPI doesn't kick in until the 3rd round. So, I believe the layout of the first 2 rounds would be the same and then in Rd 3 things are "re-seeded" based on RPI.

Again, I'm no expert, but I am pretty confident in it.

I hope Mayfield makes it all the way to Lexington, so they get their hind ends smoked and have a long drive back home Smile

True anything can happen. I’m sure a lot of people are hoping this happens.

LCA should win out at 6-4. They will play district 3 opponents first 2 rounds which will more than likely set up LCA at OC for the third round. At that point it would be MF vs winner of LCA / OC. I think a lot of people are writing LCA off based on their record, but the injury bug hammered them hard after the second game. A healthy LCA with big road game experience is not who you want getting off the bus at your place in November.

I agree but the question is can they stay healthy enough to make a run.

Big game tonight that could have impacts on Mayfield's path - Hancock County (6-1) traveling to take on McLean County (6-1).

District 2 is razor close right now with 3 teams sitting with 1 loss (Hancock, McLean, Butler). If things hold out with OCath winning the district (they're the only team undefeated in district play so far) then one of those 3 teams will be traveling to Mayfield in the first round. If either Hancock or McLean want to ensure they won't have to make a trip to Mayfield in round 1 then a win tonight is paramount.

I still feel it boils down to beechwood, mayfield, OC AND LCA.
