Will the Mikey Mikes prove they're ready to play big boy football ? Will they be able to play physical football ? The answer Friday night !!

Clay County needs a cell tower in the endzone. But I’m thinking about going to this one anyway.

This should give us a good gauge of what Clay County really has over there in Manchester.

I don’t think they pull off the upset but I think they keep it closer than JC fans would like.

Johnson Central's offensive line played its best game of the season last week according to Coach Peck and 5 running backs rushed for at least 68 yards. The Golden Eagles will have two weeks to prepare for its opening district game against Clay County. If Johnson Central continues to improve and avoids large numbers of turnovers and penalties, then none of their district opponents will come close to beating them.

Clay County has been beating (or losing to) its opponents by about the same margins as last season, with the exception of Pike County Central, which lost its starting quarterback from last season through the transfer process.

Would love to see the Tigers keep this one close, and they actually might for a while…

I am not going to predict a score but Clay County has scored a total of 25 points in the past five games of this series and Johnson Central has not failed to score at least 40 points in any of those games. Clay County entered the game against Johnson Central last season with the same 4-1 record that it has this season.

Here’s where clay counties weak schedule comes back to hurt them, they will see how good they are come Friday..
#12
I think it might be close for the 1st qtr maybe still in reach half way through the 2nd. But after that. It’s gonna be all yellow and black. And not clay co yellow and black. They seem to have a decent passing game. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them put up 14-21 points. If I had to bet, I’d put money they don’t, but still wouldn’t be surprised if they did.
#13
If the line can give Rice time against a team like Johnson Central, Clay has the offense to score a couple of times. But you’ve got a state champion caliber team on the other side. Losing early could help the Golden Eagles in the long run.

Watched some film on Clay and I am not as impressed with them as I originally thought..... or maybe I was just being optimistic for my neighbors over in Manchester.

Anyways, I'll change my prediction.

They’ve improved over the past few years and generated a little excitement for a basketball town. But as someone mentioned, a some of that is a weak schedule giving a false sense of development of the overall program. I was thinking you’re score sticky, and on a good night they might make it 21

Clay has played 5 games at this point. Knox Central (2-3 D1 players) Harlan County (clay had never beat until last year in history of Harlan football) Pike Central (has played every comparable school to Clay on their schedule and played everyone in the district besides JC, had no way of knowing their qb would transfer and start for Pikeville), Leslie County (took clay and Williamsburg to the wire and would beat a lot of 4a teams), that leaves Lynn Camp and ill give you that one but who doesn't have an automatic win on their schedule?  Still have Johnson Letcher Perry all district games.  I think its a schedule that will really test Clay down the stretch. These games were scheduled with at least two years of not being able to predict the future. If this was Corbin you could say weak schedule but Clay putting Leslie and Knox on the schedule along with the district they play in is enough for me to respect it. Who could they have got besides maybe North?

Some of you all crack me up! I forgot to mention Clay was the underdog and most picked them to lose at Harlan County (you can't have it both ways.) Also just got off the phone with Mark Stoops told him he can't be scheduling Youngstown and Northern Illinois because the fellas on Bluegrass rivals won't be happy. In all seriousness Can Clay win this week probably not, Can it be competitive? Sure! Am I proud of them so far this season absolutely.

Harlan County win was very impressive!! Clay going on the road and beating a red Hot Harlan County Team and doing it in a convincing way, through the air and on the ground..That was eye opening...

Clays schedule was a guantlet for years...The teams that Clay has on there schedule in a few years other than a Pike County Central and Lynn Camp all are trending upward and will most definately challenge the Tigers in years to come.... The current district for Clay is very solid....I would like to see Clay keep this Johsnon Central game close, Not expected to win this one yet but a victory would be very nice...But if Clay can keep this one close and then play Letcher and Perry Central to the wire and maybe beat one or both then I don't think anyone can say much...But Clay is playoff bound with the district win and probably looking at being the 4 seed against Corbin in the opening round of the 2022 playoffs as of right now......

I personally would like to see Clay moved to 3A and be put in a district with Bell County, Rockcastle, Estill County and Garrard County....

People are getting to dang touchy on here, like everything is personal. It doesn’t matter what kind of team you have, you could be trinity, or you could be Lynn camp, the teams you play is what makes it weak. The competition. That’s the one thing that stays the same in this equation. Same with a hard. If someone has FD, St X, Male, IMG academy in their schedule. Does it make it anymore hard if it’s trinitys schedule or Lynn camp? It would be harder for Lynn camp, but the competition stays the same. It’s only the probability of winning it that changes. So yea, it’s a pretty weak schedule. Not the worst. But I wouldn’t even say avg. And yes, there would be a team out there, a solid team, that would schedule them. No offense to clay co. But the equivalent of Uk vs EKU. A tune up game of sorts. It’s not the kids fault, and yea it’s hard to schedule 2 years out, but I think even most on here would agree in 5 years you can about bet the same schedule would be on the weaker side. But if you respect it, then I guess that’s all that matters right? We all have our opinions. And btw, who are the three D1 players On KC?

Let me know what mark says too. And tell him that Hound05 says other than getting a win for a bowl game, those games do nothing to prepare UK for the conference.

Willougby signed with Morehead State, Partin and Chadwell both with d1 offers. (FCS is part of D1) I know this will be your argument so here

(The Morehead State Eagles football program is the intercollegiate American football team for Morehead State University located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Pioneer Football League, the only public school in the conference)

Clays schedule isn't average because they played Lynn Camp?, maybe that was a tune up for Harlan. Clay has come a long way for people to be calling this a weak schedule so I'm sure the school and kids are proud of that.

Morehead State is to D1 as McDonald’s is to fine dining.

JC will steamroll thru Clay. Gonna be ugly.

Johnson Central plays a weak schedule for a 4A school. Their schedule is rated -3.1 on CalPreps.com. CalPreps rates Clay County's schedule at -34.7. Whether a person believes those ratings are accurate or not, unless CalPreps' math is wrong, it is an objective measure of each team's strength of schedule.

I don't get offended when people refer to Johnson Central's schedule as weak and I mean no offense when I say that Clay County's schedule is very weak. As for D-1 talent, it really has nothing to do with strength of schedule. Strong teams often are blessed with plenty of D-1 talent but there are plenty of players who play in D-1 programs who played on very weak high school teams. There are coaches who would struggle to win if they had 10 D-1 players, and I do not mean that as an insult to Clay County's coach.

I am going to try to refrain from predicting that games will be decided with a running clock. Anybody can look at results from this year and last year for two teams and figure out if the result is going to be decided by a running clock margin, so there is not much point in me pointing out the obvious. That being said, if your team has repeatedly lost to a team with the clock running at the end of the game, then you should not feel personally insulted when people predict more of the same.

Good luck to Clay County Friday night. I would like to see all of the team's in Johnson Central's district improve year to year. That would go a long way to eliminating people calling their schedule weak. Until then, just ignore it when posters refer to your team's schedule as weak. It's not like you have any control over the scheduling anyway, so why take offense?

I was being serious, Bull. I have played for a coach or two (not football, another sport but the principle is the same) who could not put together a winning team if you gave them the first 10 draft picks at the beginning of the season. I say that as a former #1 draft pick. (I would probably have drafted myself no higher than 4th. I should have demanded a trade but I was only 12 at the time.)

Listen, you’ve taken everything I’ve said in the wrong tone. I’m not gonna argue about FCS scholarships. I don’t care that much. Again, I said you should be proud. They’ve come a long way. And no, it’s not weak because of Lynn camp. It’s weak because if the overall thing. Leslie county is a below avg team. They’ve won 2 games against awful teams and lost to some
bad Teams too. Wburg couldn’t compete in 4A like you said. They got beat by horrible somerset team. Maybe on a good day id call KC avg. you can call PCC a good team all you want. They’ve won 2 games against opponents who haven’t even won a single between them. Granny don’t kill me hahah but I’m not sold on HC being an avg team
yet. Especially for 4A. You can disagree with what I said. In the scheme on things it don’t matter. I know people more than I feel it’s a weak schedule. Im sure others
think it’s an avg schedule. I will give you that you have a hard district. Probably one of the toughest behind BC and Lex cath. I don’t get why the least bit of sometbing like a Weak schedule sends people in a frenzy. Guess what we had a horribly weak schedule last year. Didn’t bother me any. All I said was the same thing you mentioned. It’s hard to tell what a team is going to be from year to year. And guess what I’d say ours this year is on the lower end of avg. sometimes the truth isnt what we want to hear, but nonetheless, it’s still there. Just because our schedule was weak didn’t mean I wasn’t proud, or we didn’t accomplish anything. Sometimes you take what you can get. Clay has come a long way, I’d be proud of them too.

Exactly! 110%agree. Without looking it up I’d say Corbin’s schedule is at or below JCs schedule this year as well. Like you said, it doesn’t bother me. Just doesn’t prepare us or you or them as much for post season

Edit***

After getting curious I looked it up just to see. And just show how off some of calpreps ratings are. It shows Corbin as a 5.7 and boyle with a 5.5. And JC with a -3.1 or sometbing close to that. That’s beyond ridiculous!!! Clay coming in at a -34.7. Note I’m not a big fan of any of calpreps algos or rankings. It’s probably good if you’re top 100 or 1000 in the nation, but after that it’s garbage IMO.

Now you made me mad calling my Pikeville team weak Hound05 and really hurt my feelings. Just kidding but Clay county has improved but in their district they have a tough road but with cross bracketing which I don’t know who that will be but they could maybe get a couple of wins.

Haha. I’d never say Pikeville is weak. They are always a contender year in ans year out. Apparently Calpreps likes you guys and PC quiet a bit. Hopefully you guys will run the table from this week on to 10 and give us a bump in our RPI. Oh yea clay def improved. It will be interesting how the 2nd and 3rd seed plays out in their district.

And without pikeville and PC, our schedule would probably comical

Johnson Central may be down for their standards, but I don't see Clay County being able to play with Central for four quarters. Clay County is improved and they are making strides, but I think Johnson Central is still the king of that District. Johnson Central isn't as dominant up front as years past, but they are still pretty darn good. I think Clay keeps it respectable until half time, but I look for a running clock in the second half. Johnson Central wins 48-14.
