Pikeville losses not looking so bad now. Cov Cath wins at Lex Cath 7-6 and Corbin beats Franklin County 40-20.

Well, when you consider a loss of only five points to Corbin in the first game, then a loss of eight points to Cov Cath the next game, that’s pretty dang close. But a loss is a loss and they all hurt.

Paintsville put up a good fight but just didn't have the horses to get it done, although the Phelps kid had some good runs at times. Duty looked good at the qb spot. Made some good throws and connected well with Boykins for some nice yardage.  Congrats to the maroon and white on a good win.

So who was quarterback? Did they rotate?
#8
From the sounds of it, Boykins will be more of a Wildcat QB and WR at this point and they will ride the run game while Duty gets hold of the offense. Smart move if thats the case.

Uh oh, Pikeville starting to figure out the correct formula offensively. Bad news for 1A. Also a nice little change up on the DL, one I’ve been begging for since the Summer. It made a huge difference tonight. Also one more comment, why in the world when your entire season hinges on one player do you still have that kid in the game in the 4th qtr and giving it to him every single play when you’re absolutely getting murdered. That feels like insanity to me.

Solid win...if this ended up being a competitive game I was gonna be very concerned...but it wasn't

I asked that same question to the guys standing next to me.

Congrats Pikeville. This team has weapons all over the field. Gonna be a huge task for any team in Class A to knock this team off.

Told ya the putty tats would win.

I still wish Boykins was the QB but it's time to pick one and go with it.

Duty is very talented in his own right and is capable of leading this team to another state title.
#16
You still think Pikeville’s offense is better with Boykins as the sole qb? Boykins everywhere is the answer. Duty gives you the threat to throw short, mid level, and downfield. Boykins in space is killer. Duty can still give it to Birchfield and still get it to Boykins and still get it to all your Wr and TE threats. The offense becomes much more diverse and less predictable with Duty. Listen I still want Boykins to touch it 10, 12 maybe 15 times a game. I want Birchfield to touch it around the same. I want Scott to get 3-5 catches, Hensley 3-5 catches, Bevins catches, Anthony 3-5 carries, even Caudill 3-5 carries.
That’s what makes the offense click, diversity and unpredictability. And a team has a week or two to try to prepare for all that.
Good luck.

I guess it's probably best long-term if Duty is under center but Boykins has to get a lot of touches...for some reason I've always loved electric QBs that can run all over the field...regardless let's pick one and ride him to our 7th state title.

Pikeville looked like Pikeville last night best performance this year in all aspects but still stuff to work on. I believe the coaching staff has figured it out and definitely the playbook open up a little more last night. Great win last night but Monday starts a new objective so stay focused young men a lot of worked left to do. As always GO PANTHERS!!!

Duty is a QB. Boykins is a heck of an athlete.

There is a huge difference

Anybody know any stats on Pikeville for the game? I've looked everywhere I could think of.
#23
Offense looked way better. I liked the diverse play call and different looks. Gonna be tough to prepare for. The downfield passing game still isn’t there but the screens were very effective. Just to much talent on offense to not spread out touches.

The losses never looked bad. Lexington Catholic has not been a factor in 4A since joining the class. Covington Catholic is not a very good 5A team, at least when compared to the teams that they have fielded in the recent past. Pikeville is an outstanding 1A team and it really doesn't matter how well they fare against the strongest teams on their schedule.

The offense would have looked way better against Paintsville than it did against Covington Catholic or Corbin, no matter who had been playing quarterback. against the Tigers.

Was Covington better last year than this year?

I would say definitely yes.

I believe that they were. I am not saying that Covington Catholic is not a good team. They are obviously well coached and fundamentally sound but they are young and neither Covington Catholic nor Lexington Catholic have a legitimate shot at a state title this season. Both Pikeville losses were impressive.

Heard Boykins was used all over the field in this one. Got snaps at qb, running back and receiver. I think he needs to be used in the way Jackson Hensley was. Just get him the ball multiple ways and make plays.

Pikeville looked very impressive last night, while Hazard looked very unimpressive. Not a good sign for everyone else in 1A this year.
