Russell Suspends Raceland Series
#1
Per Zack Klemme’s Twitter.  Looks like there is no more Rail Cities Bowl for the foreseeable future.

Is there a story behind this reasoning? I hate when traditional series die out, unless one team just gets so good the other can't compete.

Wow hahah

Russell was fine with playing Raceland when they were winning

Russell won’t be competitive in this game for years to come. Probably for the best for both schools

Russell program appears to be headed downhill and Raceland continues to load up on transfers. To me, makes sense for Russell to end the series, especially with RPI being awarded the way it is.

You're not the first person to say something about Russell's program declining. What is going on there? I have heard a rumor from a not reliable source that parents are not happy with T.J. Maynard. Any truth to this?

I guess maybe Russell sees the writing on the wall for the future because before this past Saturday night Russell had won the last 3 meetings. All 3 wins were by double digits by the Red Devils.

I’ve heard TJ is on his way out. He’s tired and I believe he wants to get into administration before he retires. Nothing reliable here but it’s what I’ve been told.

Has Russell lost a lot of players to Raceland or something?

QB Lundy and WR Lykins were both Red Devils originally. Raceland also passed SB128. Russell did not.

There is two that I know of. I don't live in the area anymore. This has been happening for many years. Raceland had two quarterbacks from Russell when I was at Raceland in the early 90's. With all the schools so close in NEKY, transfers were not that uncommon.

Well there you go. Raceland has built their programs up and kids want to gravitate to programs like that and others get left behind. As a Betsy Layne fan, if a Russell fan needs a few pointers on how to cope with it. My PMs are open lol

I would like to personally applaud TJ and Russell football. Every local team that has the lambs scheduled, and has had kids poached from their program should do exactly the same dang thing!!!! If raceland wants to build a high school travel football team, let’s open up their schedule to do just that. Hit the road 5 times a year to completely out of our area.
Thank you Russell for starting the movement!!!

My opinion is I will reserve judgment until an explanation from the Russell administration comes out. But it definitely isn’t a good look for Russell.

By the way the middle school programs this year have started out 2-0 for 7th and 8th and 6th 1-0 with a 28-6 over coal grove.
#19
Russell is just the first of several local teams that will not renew or schedule Raceland
#20
I get so damn tired of hearing that we have "poached" kids from other schools. Gtfo with that!! You dont want kids to leave? Give them a reason to WANT to stay. Give parents a reason to WANT their kids to stay put. Good lord. This is a head scratcher. Great gate and atmosphere. The back and forth on social media building up to the game was absolutely epic and funny on both sides. Bunch of damn q-tipped, cotten balled, bubble wrapped charmin softies get butthurt ans all the fun is gone bc someone got triggered.

I’m not a Russell hater. I give them hell on here but that’s for fun. I always root for Russell in any football game they play but one. I know lots of good people that are Russell fans. This was a good series for both schools. Adults need to stay out of the way

You guy’s should be thrilled!!! Everyone knows you have enough 19 year olds and transfers that no local team can even compete with y’all anymore.
I only pray that Runrunrun is spot on and everyone local drops you as soon as contract ends.
Pack your bags boys, y’all just to good for us local teams. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EKY atheletics on fb loves to stir the pot. They do alot for the kids in the area so I dont complain much. But they are loving this and the platform it is creating for them. They broke the broken story, good for them. They work hard. But they are riding this and making it into an even bigger shit show.

GC has bled students for years and blamed Raceland. Now Russell is doing the same. Give them a reason to stay...they will stay. Ive said it over and over. Its why Raceland rarely loses kids to surrounding schools.
#26
I wonder if they will make a big deal of it when Greenup, Rowan, East, West and I’m not sure about Ashland does the same thing because that’s what’s next. My guess is no
#27
Its only a big deal bc the game isnt even a week removed from being played.
#28
Hate to see rivals like these 2 teams have come to an end, it’s kind of like a era has ended. Maybe someone from the school will clarify this move.
#29
And there was back and forth, ALL IN GOOD FUN, MIND YOU, FOR THE MOST PART, leading into the game. This is the 2nd attempt by the daily independent at causing a ruckus between Raceland and Russell. Guess thats what you do when your home team is now struggling. They have yet to write a story about the game that doesnt include the dramatic storyline of transfers or holdbacks and tbh, I dont blame them. Thats good writing.
#30
And we have been beating East. West, Greenup, and Rowan like drums for years.
