How do you put Lynn Camp and Clay in ahead of Jackson County and Whitley Co??
12-12-2021, 12:15 AM
Lynn Camp, in my opinion, is solidly in the top 10. You could argue for Jackson or Whitley at 10 ahead of Clay. Actually, maybe even OBI or Pineville. With that said, neither of those teams have proven anything up to this point. At this time, early in the season, I give Clay the edge.

None of the teams have proven anymore than Whitley County has.

They haven’t lost and they have three really good players. 2 of the 3 are top 10 type players.

Ranking is crazy this year outside the top 2. Everyone else is beating each other. It looks like Middlesboro and Clay are bad though without much upside this season.

1 and 2 seem to be locks. My issue with your rankings are simple. You have Corbin and South ranked above a Harlan Countu team that beat them both by 30. Harlan Co. is clearly stronger than both of those teams. I’m not sure how you have them ranked above them.

Because Harlan County also lost to Williamsburg and Corbin beat Williamsburg by 30. And I think SL won a big tournament the weekend before they played Harlan Co and played NL on that Monday then a long trip to Harlan County.
My question about your rankings is how do you have Harlan City so low when they won their district last year and didn’t lose anyone. Plus they have played a tough schedule so far unlike say Barbourville and Lynn Camp. It’s very hard to rank right now.

Harlan Ind 3-3, including getting beat by 30 at Pikeville. They are defending district champs, but Trent Noah, from Harlan Co., was playing on a broken foot and was severely limited in that game. Harlan Ind is a little too streaky to have much confidence in. They don’t run a lot of offense and are too dependent on hitting the three. Now, with that said, if they get hot from deep, they are dangerous. With that said, I believe strongly that North and Knox are 1 and 2, but Harlan County has to be three with 20+ margin wins over Corbin, Perry, and South. How can you ignore that?
12-21-2021, 05:40 PM
The biggest thing with Harlan County was I wasn’t impressed with what they did offensively against Bell. That being said I would not be surprised if Harlan County doesn’t end up the 3rd best team. Harlan City is better than #10 as well.

The Corbin team, as the season progresses and as their football athletes round into basketball playing form, will not resemble the team that HC beat early in the season, especially if , and when, Patterson returns to the team. HC will not leave Corbin with another win over the Hounds this season, not in regular season or regional, in my opinion. The only caveat to what I said is the fact that HC has been tough on Corbin in the regional in recent years, even when the Hounds have been as good or better.

10. Lynn Camp/Jackson Co
Knox remains number 1 with their best players back from last year until they either fall apart, which they haven’t done or someone knocks them off the top of the mountain.. NL has a 5 star player and is the most likely team to do that, but until Shepherd and co. Prove on the floor they can beat Knox they stay ranked behind them IMO.. HC has a great player and some shooters and could get hot and make a long run in the postseason if they stay healthy and a couple of their bench players develop a little. SL is solid again, but lacking a little offensively IMO. I thought Bell could be a sleeper team but after beating HC at home they get blown out by 29 at Knox - ouch.. Knox has had one weird game, getting blown out by a Perry Central team that got blown out by HC, but are still the team to beat unless NL wins the King of theBluegrass tourney and shows they are a different/much better team than they were late last year…. Should be a fun year in the 13th and should be a great region tourney…

Hopefully you're a professor of something else because 13th Region basketball isn't your specialty.

The RPI which came out yesterday certainly does not reflect this ranking. It is far from perfect but it does not take in bias such as several pundits have here.

What would your top five look like , LCA ?
Btw, if I'm not mistaken, the RPI(Ratings Parody Index) has Williamsburg ahead of Corbin( Corbin beat them by 24) and Bell Co. , who lost to Knox by 29, ahead of Corbin, South, and Williamsburg. I think we can wipe our @ sses with the RPI. I've not seen the Cantrell rankings. What does his 13th region Top 10 look like?

I think first tier is Knox and NL
2nd tier is bigger with SL, Both Harlan’s, Corbin, and Bell.
3rd tier is Williamsburg, Jackson County, Whitley, and Lynn Camp.

Having seen only 4 teams (Corbin, Williamsburg, North and Lynn Camp) play it would be difficult to rate the region.
I do however think that North and Knox would be far ahead of the rest of the region.
Followed by in no particular order: Lynn Camp, Corbin, South, Harlan Co., Harlan INd. Williamsburg, Bell, Whitley
Oddly enough I fully expect Corbin and North in the finals of the region, Corbin may not have the best weapon but they have a lot of weapons, North has the best weapon. Knox may be there but may run out of luck between now and then. Patterson has done a great job but he is only a bad call or two away from a total meltdown down at any given time.

The region is full of parody and a lot of wild scenarios could unfold. In the 52nd district one of the following Harlan Co, Harlan Ind, or Bell County will be send home in the first round of the district tournament. All three of them are good enough to knock several teams off in the first round of the region depending on the draw. Corbin will always be a tough out come February as will South Laurel. But Williamsburg and Whitley County are better than in years past and one of them could pull a surprise in the district. North Laurel and Knox Central are still the favorites, but I wouldn't say they are such world beaters that another team couldn't shock them on the right night at the arena. I say all that to say buckle up it's going to be a wild wide with a lot of teams beating this team and losing to that team in the 13th this year.

I think people may be sleeping on this hounds team also old school. Coach P can flat out coach, and now you add Crawford to the staff this team will be the most discipline team in the region. Crawford could be one of the best in the region as a head guy, but him and Tony together are a dangerous recipe for the region. I have nothing but respect for those two. This team has already surprised me by looking at some of the teams they have beat to date, and I agree they are getting better everyday.

Boss, Corbin will not be an easy out for anyone come March. Those who are rating them fifth and sixth in the region may have egg on their faces come end of the season. Corbin has shown an uncanny ability recently to find a way to come from behind late and beat really good teams. The teams they played in Gatlinburg came into their games with Corbin with something like a 30-2 combined record and Corbin beat all three. I heard Tony say after the Wburg game that he felt his team was only about 55 or 60% of where its ceiling could be. Will be interesting to watch as the team progresses throughout the season and what impact Patterson will have if he returns.
12-23-2021, 11:20 AM
Corbin pulls off a 24 point win at home over a Williamsburg team that’s not a top 5 in region contender just because they somehow pulled off an upset of HC in OT on their home floor. Corbin will probably beat most region teams at Corbin in their own gym, but at the Arena if they make it out of their District will be a much different story IMO. Corbin, HC and SL are all I believe A notch below Knox and NL and opinions will vary about who the 3rd best team is, but these 3 teams have got a lot of work to do to expect to be up to the task of beating Knox or North at the Arena later this year the way I see It…
