South Warren 38 Frederick Douglass 26 (5A State Championship)
#1
Final. A really good game between two good teams South Warren just made a few more plays tonight. Last score on a 4th and inches makes it a bigger margin than it really was, but SW was in control much of the game after the first quarter. Congratulations! Also, congratulations to Frederick Douglass on another great season.

Listen ….FD has way to much talent to not win this game. FD could be a powerhouse but won’t until they go get them a coach

Congratulations to South Warren their 3rd title in their 11 years existence. Congratulations also to Douglass who in only 5 years have been to two state semifinals and two state finals.

I'd love to see a Boyle vs South Warren game. Both teams were very impressive

Is the talent level really that high at FD or is Mcpeek just such a good coach he gets them recruited well. Didn’t see anyone on FD that really impressed me.

Douglas University with more talent than anyone not named X or Male…. Lost again! Lol I mean.

If I’m a college coach there’s 4 WR in 4a that I’d take over Key. Patterson, Longmire, Lanter, Claudio, and give him some time to learn the position better and I’d take Ryleh McKenzie from Jc as well.

No he absolutely didn’t at all, Cole Lanter impressed me. Lanter is a PWO and made Key look like a nobody when they played earlier this season. Stars mean nothing. I’m sure if you asked majority of the great people on this site there’d be very few not agree with me.

Would have to trade a recruiting coordinator for a coach.  And McPeek's a recruiter from way back.  That ain't an accusation, that one's on paper to prove it (re: Fairview).  Fred Doug does less with more every year than any program I have ever seen.

Unfortunately, it's been shown time and again what makes someone a D-1 prospect isn't what makes someone a good football player.  It's what you do at "combines", and your "intangibles".  Has nothing to do with your heart, your football IQ, or whether or not you're a winner.  Sometimes it works out.  But in this state, usually it does not.

Exactly I hate that Lanter was better than us last night but he has football IQ and heart. I don’t see that with a lot of other skilled guys in the state that get these big time d1 offers. No one has ever got stars and very rarely get recruited for what they do in games.

Stop! I agree with you on most posts..but to say Landis (who is now a college coach at a division 1 program, and Mcpeek (who is more than qualified) are not good coaches makes you sound ignorant. Sure, Douglass should have won and few titles and sure, it’s easy to blame something but to say it’s all coaching is absolutely ignorant! -with love

I can say it's entirely coaching. If you gave this collection of talent to any good coach east of 75, you'd see a monster. But they wouldn't play for them. They go somewhere else for better promises. What you'd see is a Corbin-style meltdown of D-1 kids who never somehow touch the football.
#24
Kentucky signee Dane Key had 5 catches for 155 yards tonight for Douglass in the loss. I hope he can continue to do this for the Wildcats next season.

Frederick Douglas just can't seem to get across that big hump called the state championship game.

And they will NEVER will if they keep scheduling cupcakes like they do every year. Yeah I get it, they are obligated to play the weak Lexington schools blah blah blah. They had a wonderful opportunity to play Lou Male this season but opted out to watch a movie instead. They have the talent for sure, so should we start pointing at coaches for not getting they over that hump?

Has any school ever done less with more than Douglass?

Lafayette when they had a run. Couple of NFL guys now on their roster then, group of 5  and FCS players and an NFL/ CLF head coach, but just couldn't win the big one.

Not beating Trinity, STX, or Male in 6A, no matter who you have. Scott Co. would have about 4-5 titles if wasnt for those 3. Has to be depressing to be in 6A knowing you have literally no shot at winning a state title
