Pikeville 20 Wheelersburg, OH 7
#1
Final

Pikeville dominated on defense and controlled the time of possession on offense.

Special teams need a lot of work but besides that an overall great showing for the Panthers up in the Buckeye State tonight.

Total domination up front. Great dub Panthers!

Pikeville won the game but believe me that didn’t play all that well. Wheelersburg had something to do with that I know but if you watched the game an could see all the plays they missed you will agree with me. Someone predicted (42 point) a win for wheelersburg but that didn’t happen either. Just Kidding RAMDAD50. Defense play good considering one of though best players didn’t play. He would have definitely made their team better plus he is the center on offense. One of the starting receivers didn’t play tonight also. It was a good win on the road so congratulations to the Panthers on to the next game and as always GO PANTHERS!!!!

Yes it was, and from what was said on this site and others, i was looking for a little home cooking, but there was none. Btw, kudos to Wburg for the live stream coverage.

Congrats, Pikeville. Does playing out of state schools impact RPI?

I don’t think Pikeville is overly concerned about the RPI, especially this year. Just play games, in state, out of state, who cares. I’m sure the RPI kings out west will be the higher RPI ranked teams that couldn’t beat any of the top 5 in the East.

Congrats Pikeville. I would say this win will shut some people up, but I’ve been on here too long haha

At this point you gotta say screw RPI if you are Pikeville. Folks in KY won’t play them if there’s cancellations

Its definitely Pikevilles to lose. But its been said before. Seems like every year we have had a "clear favorite" since Mayfield and Beechwood left, someone gets upset. I will say this though, Ive watched the top 1A teams play. They are all missing something. Some have great team speed, others have good ground and pound size with a RB that can hurt you at some point. Some have outstanding offenses, others are just super stout defensively. But almost all of them are missing SOMETHING. For me right now, the top 2 teams in 1A are Pikeville and Raceland. Pikevilles the heavy favorite, imo. But both the Panthers and the Rams have some issues in the defensive kicking game, namely coverage. Pikevilles biggest issue is going to be when they peak. If they havent, good god watch out. If they have, its anyones game. I feel like they are the most complete team right now defensively they fly to the football. Offensively they have what all great teams have. Big and fast upfront, smart and experienced QB, good run game and an explosive WR. They got all the pieces and a coach that knows how to win championships. Raceland, Williamsburg, KCD, and Paintsville are all still finding themselves a bit.

Paintsville is #2 in Class a per Calpreps. This is the gap in Cl;ass A today. Not me saying it. Pikeville will not lose at home and will not lose if they have to travel to fake RPI schools in Louisville. They will be getting Carson Wright back also, arguably best player on the team. So I see them at Kroger even better than they are today with a great chance of bringing home #6 Not a given though and still lots of work to be done.

I have to agree on the fact there is a big gap between Pikeville and 2-10 in 1A. I think the only one that will stop them on the way to Lexington is complacency as it did last year. If stay hungry and focused it’s theirs. Carson Wright coming back adds to this but that championship trophy will ride on the back of Birchfield. He has established himself as their go to guy. What Caron Wright will do is let  Pikeville sit Birchfield on defense and keep his legs fresher for the 4th quarter if needed and that’s not good for any team they play

I agree. What C Wright will also do is be another big threat on offense that will open it up even more for everyone else.

Ever since Beechwood and Mayfield went to 2a Pikeville has and should continue to dominate 1a.

Belfry is all that matters today. Screw the rest.

I wasn't necessarily concerned with Pikeville RPI because I don't think there's any situation where they aren't #1 going into playoffs, but I was thinking more about other schools across the state that get covid cancellations and cant find another in state game for that week.

Teams like KCD and a few others feed off of terrible 6A schools in the Louisville region  to gain RPI points.

For the players and coaches, absolutely. For the fans, much more complicated.

Belfry is not your grandfather's Belfry. they just do not in any way resemble the Belfry teams from the past. Especially upfront. They have size, but they arent as mobile as they usually are. Pikeville will possibly win by their biggest margain in that series, in several years.
