Raceland @ Russell 8/28/21

Next installment of this rivalry comes on Saturday. Whats everyone think? Both teams coming off of wins over bigger schools. Russell defeating Boone Co convincingly and Raceland knocking off a defending 3A champ Ashland. The Tomcats didnt really look like their usual selves and I dont know much about Boone Co. But I look for this to be a close one. Cant make a prediction just yet, but the Rams are much further ahead than I thought they would be at this point. Its speed vs strength in the trenches, no love lost, and no secrets when these two meet up. Who you got?

I’ll wait till Thursday for my prediction. With covid and not knowing if there are any key injuries it’s best to wait awhile.

#4 Class 1A Power Raceland will host Class 3A Russell. Russell comes off a win over Boone County 19-6. Raceland went into the lions den in Ashland and stole the meat wagon with a 16-7 win. Should make for a thriller of a game.

I think the Tomcat den/aka Putnam Stadium would be more fitting since the Lions of Boyd County are Ashland’s County Rivals.

I don’t know about Raceland injury wise but Russell is without Ethan Oborne rb/db for the year and Matthew Haggard-OL/DL for the year. Jaden Smith OL/DL has been dealing with an ankle issue and didn’t play against Boone County.

Hate to hear about the injury bug. Raceland had some cramps friday night, but i think we came out clean in that regard. Went in that game with Bell out with a broken finger, so he didnt play, but should be back this week i believe. Big thing for me is this though. Are these games important? 100%. Every game is. BUT losing this game isnt a deal breaker for either school. Id rather see a close competitive game, and both teams get healthy so they can both make a run in november. Im still hoping for the day that both teams are competitng for titles! Kind of feel like Raceland may be a different type of team than they have been in recent years though.

I am always going to take my team . However there is good reason with this one . The last 2 years the Rams have not had there starting qb . Not to say they would have won either game just that it is not a fair gauge . Last year the Devils new with Hughes that they were going to have to run the ball and the Rams did for 230 yards and without sacks included in that it was more like 275 . Now with a more balanced offense and a very much improved D I like the Rams a lot . Plus Russell is very good up front but they are not Ashland up there and the Rams dominated that game up front all night . 150 on the ground and zero sacks for the Rams and Thacker was under pressure all evening . Rams win this one 31-14

Russell if they have some offense to go along with the D should win pretty easy. Raceland is dangerous but only scored 7 on the Tomcats D. The other 10 were gifted to them.

Idk about for sure TD passes ….maybe one of them but we dropped a lot of balls for sure. I believe Raceland done just enough to win the game and Assland done more then enough to lose it. That’s why I’m not sold on a win over Assland just yet. A team improves the most between week one and week two. Both Russell and Raceland will be better this week. I believe Raceland will have a very good year this year but I’m not all in on a “great” year. I’ll know more after Friday night

This should be a pretty good game, atleast I hope it is. Raceland had a nice win last week. Can they keep it going...

This info was good to know before I went to this game. Looks like I’ll be watching this one from the house

I think we should start having a separate poll to see who thinks each game will actually be played. I mean…..it’s something else to talk about haha

Anybody else sitting around just waiting for this game to be canceled? Lots of canceled games out there. I feel really bad for these kids. This covid situation is being handled poorly

A young Ashland team made about as many mistakes as you can make in a football game last week. I don’t think Russell will struggle as badly as what Ashland did. Raceland looked ahead of schedule but Russell wins this one by a touchdown.

I have to agree with Mister D, regarding Ashlands mistakes. And imo, we didnt capitalize on those mistakes enough. Defensively, we did plenty to win that game, but the offense still sputtered at times. But thats expected early on. I think its going to come down to which prevails in the trenches. Racelands speed or Russell strength. I think Raceland has the better defense right now. Bit I think Russell may be a little more balanced and confirtable right now offensively. This shouod be a very, very good football game.

Russell needs Bradley Rose to be able to play the whole game. Last week he left the game with cramps.
