Here is my opinion is based on the information I've posted.....

As far as having sports by Class.... I think the way it is now is fine. No other sport/activity needs to be Classed.
- Cross Country and Track & Field needs to remain classed.
- Football needs to remain classed.

But as far as a Public/Private split goes for some sports, the numbers don't lie. I've posted some stats about Swimming & Diving and volleyball in the other posts....
- Swimming & Diving needs to be split.
- Volleyball needs to be split.
- Soccer needs to split.
- Tennis needs to be split.
(Private schools have won a combined 28 of the 37 boys team state titles)
(Private schools have won a combined 21 of the 37 girls team state titles)

These events need to be left As-Is.
Basketball, Softball, Baseball, Wrestling, Bass Fishing, Bowling, Archery, ESports, Field Hockey, Golf Dance & Cheer

Some more numbers to look at in support of having a public/private school split for some sports.

Volleyball - No public school has EVER won the state volleyball state championship (Established 1979).

Boys Soccer - 21 of the 46 team state titles have been won by a private school.

Girls Soccer - 12 of the 29 team state titles have been won by a private school.

Girls Swimming & Diving - 42 of the 74 team state titles have been won by a private school
Sacred Heart was won the last 10 of 11 team state titles.

Boys Swimming & Diving - 66 of the 111 team state titles have been won by a private school.
St. Xavier has won every team state title since 1989.

Boys Tennis - 35 of 39 team state titles have been won by a private school.
St. X & Trinity have won 18 of the last 20.

Girls Tennis - 21 of the 39 of the team state titles have been won by a private school.

Couple quick thoughts: 1st, great research. It’s great to be able to see everything all in one thread. Second, your take on soccer is interesting. Looks pretty evenly split between privates and publics, so why separate? Next, and what I think is most important: how do you think the public schools who have found a way to compete and win state championships feel about splitting from private schools? Do you think they want to be “Public School Champions*” with the asterisk being that they didn’t actually win a tournament that had the best teams in the state? I also think if there was a split, we would eventually realize there would be the same problem. In volleyball for example you’d get a group of 4-5 schools that would win most of the public school state championships and there would still be a huge gap between those schools and the rest. It seems to me that the top public schools are closing the gap with the top private schools. I’m not against separating, but I hope they’ll take a look at the Open division in California and do something similar. Want to compete with the best regardless of enrollment or government funding? Here, join this division. We’ll call them state champs and the others can battle it out for class championships.
