Paintsville vs. KCD 12/18 (1A Finals)
#1
Thoughts on the matchup?

KCD 28-20. They aren’t flashy but they are methodical and they do what they do well. 34 is a really good back for 1a football.

If you are right then KCD has greatly improved on both sides of the ball since last year. If they can score 28 points running 90% of the time against this Paintsville defense, then I will tip my cap and move on with my life. I think KCD knows they will have to open the offense up to score
enough to win.

Different year, different teams but Paintsville rushed for over 400 yards in Louisville against KCD last year.

Also you cannot ignore the “been there” factor. Having played in the state title game last year will be a huge advantage.

I’ll probably catch grief over this but....I’m just god the kids got to finish the season the right way and that’s on the field. It’s been a very strange year to say the least

As far as the game goes....I’m hoping that Paintsville gets their first championship. Paintsville is a great program that has went without a ring far to long....just like my Rams. So I’m hoping they finally get over the hump and if they do it gives me hope that Raceland might get it done someday. Go get em Tiggers this old Ram will be pulling for you

23-20. Paintsville

Go Tigers!

Paintsville is gonna have to do more then just run the Wildcat offensively. That being said for KCD to have a shot they have to have an amazing effort from their interior lineman. Newport just could not run between the tackles. NCC moved the ball well when passing so I look for KCD to open up the offense a little in this one. Paintsville knows that title game is a whole different stage and mindset. Hopefully the tigers play better this year in the final.

^^ Paintsville can throw but has been so dominant on defense the past two games that ground and pound and amazing defense has been the blueprint. Having Hyden in the backfield is a difference maker. Hyden (7), Phelps, Hyden (24) and Poe running the ball is a lot for 1A teams to deal with.

I mean absolutely no disrespect to KCD but they aren’t 2019 Pikeville.

I do agree KCD will have to do something other than their base offense. However, Kroger Field ain’t exactly the place to try to do stuff you aren’t comfortable with to begin with.

Watched the semi final game from last year on YouTube today. Should be a favorable match up for Paintsville but in these types of games you never know. Good luck to both teams hopefully everyone stays healthy.

Considering Pikeville won in a blowout KCD doesn’t have to be 2019 Pikeville to win, and whether it’s by 1 or 100 in a state championship a win is a win.

Low scoring, short game. KCD is going to run the ball the entire game which plays straight into Paintsville's defensive strength. Last year, Paintsville went KCD and beat them in Louisville, now the stakes are higher and KCD has not played in the state championship before. KCD struggles to move the ball, early on and has to change their offensive strategy in the second half. KCD does not want to pass the ball.

Paintsville 21
KCD 7

Who did Paintsville beat to get to the state finals last year? They may not need to be 2019 Pikeville but they sure as hell better be better than 2019 KCD.

KCD will be better prepared. Unfortunately, for them so will Paintsville. Kids will be focused. KCD I am sure still feels sting from loss last year and Paintsville from loss in finals last year. If you can’t focus and get fired up for State finals need to find a different sport. I am definitely biased but I believe Paintsville is the better team and will win.
#16
Paintsville knows KCD but like a lot of people on here has said this is the whole ball of wax. Paintsville is definitely going to Lexington with intensity and heart. Paintsville will win this game and get the ring they have been wanting for some time. Paintsville 28 KCD 0

I’m looking for this to be a solid game with Paintsville’s line wearing down KCD in the second half.

Oh only a 100 years but who is counting!?

Don't know much about KCD, but Paintsville does have talent on the line for sure. You should be able to run any kind of offense you want behind that line. 77 is the Terminator.
#20
KCD needs to be able to pass and run outside. Up the middle not gonna happen 76 & 77 will shut that down. Not gonna lie pullin for KCD in this one. Hope for a good game and not a blowout in the state title game.
#21
Congratulations Tigers. I think they win this game 28-14.
#22
Tigers 35 KCD 14. Tigers need to get it done Friday. Probably last chance for another 100 yrs. Most of talent graduates and not sure we match up well with Pikeville and Raceland next few years.
#23
It’s helps that Paintsville played at Kroger last year. The players shouldn’t be as overwhelmed by the experience. Tigers by 14.

Thanks for the info. Should be a heck of a ball game

Watched bits and pieces of KCD beat out williamsburg, and that game did not impress me. From watching it on the big screen, williamsburg threw bombs all night and couldn’t complete one, and maybe ran the ball a few times but never wanted to pound it. It seemed as their main focus was to hit a home run ball and KCD had 4-5 DBs 15 yards off most of the game. Paintsville is a high powered machine the last couple weeks and should have ease with the ground n’ pound on this bunch. Paintsville dominates this one unless they show up the way they did last year.

Paintsville- a lot of yards and a lot of points
KCD- maybe a couple decent plays but not a lot of points

Just by looking at the seating chart online it doesn’t appear to be much. Seats are in sections of 4 and EXTREMELY spread out!

I think it'll be a short low scoring game and I like the Tigers to be the first "All-A" size school to win a state championship in football, basketball, and baseball. Such a great accomplishment that the community and alumni should be extremely proud of.

Tigers win, 27-16.
