Brandon Kidd(BL), Brad Lowe(PC),and Brandon May(SC) all three headed to Pikeville College.
The first three recruits in the Kelly Wells era at PC hail from the 15th region, giving the Bears some local 15th region flavor on their squad...Congrats to those guys...and Whats everyones thoughts on this.

Thank God that Pikeville COllege is getting back to being PIKEVILLE COLLEGE! Thank You Coach Wells..Maybe we will know some of the players that are on the court now..

I agree also that Brandon Kidd will be out of his league. He is nothing more than a poor man's Robbie Spears...

It is good to see the local boys going to the local college.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog.

Congrats to these guys, but if Wells keeps signing players from the 15th region then Pikeville will be weaker than they have ever been. Stupid to sign all 15th region players, especially if you actually wanna win a game.

I don't think I would go that far, but he is too small to play at Pikeville College in the post.
All of the other guys are roughly the same height as Kidd, but they possess guard skills. Thats why I think Kidd will struggle, but he was definitely a good HS ballplayer.
BTW.....I've only seen that Wells has inked Lowe & May for sure. Is it a definite that Kidd has signed, too?

Brandon Kidd was at Pikeville College a few weeks ago. He met with Coach Wells in his office and liked him. I know this for a fact, I was there, lol. But anyway, I wouldn't doubt him being signed there but I don't think that all of these kids from the 15th will help PC that much. I like seeing the boys have an oppurtunity to play at college level but a school like PC isn't that much to brag about.

Hadn't read the times in a while.....I usually just read the News Express from time-to-time or the WDN.
Thanks!

No, what is stupid is to make a statement like that one. This isn't Kelly Wells 1st coaching job. He knows exactly what he is doing. He will get his 6 or 8 studs from elsewhere, then get 6 or 8 local kids to fill the seats and hopefully develope one or two of the locals into nice college players. I am glad that Kelly is taking this approach because I got tired of watching a bunch of D-1 rejects come in here and give PC a bad name off the court. He will do things right and the Bears will no longer be playing in front of a bunch of empty seats. By the way, if you look close at PC's basketball history, it is the local boys that have made the program!!
PC Top 5 Scorers:
1) Bart Williams- Johnson Central
2) Todd May- Virgie
3) Brian Johnson- Jenkins
4) Donnis Butcher- Meade Memorial
5) Jody Thompson- Feds Creek
Signing those 5 local talents turned out OK, and 3 of the 5 played within the last 15 years!!!

Besides they are getting to play basketball on the college level and get an education...there is alot of pride in the program and a lot of history.

WOW
Now this may be unrealistic, but if the lineup consisted of this:
Matt Maynard - Belfry @ PG
Brad Lowe - Pike Central @ SG
Brandon May - Sheldon Clark @ SF or
Shaun Thompson - Lawrence Co @ SF
Insert 2 BIG MEN Here: _____________
I'd go watch them play.
The reason I say it is unrealistic is because I think Maynard is leanig towards football.

I respect all these players games, all are great players and all should be able to contribute, but with all due respect with that lineup in Pikevilles league they wouldn't win a game..JMO.

Lowe and Maynard could play at that level after a year of adjustment, the rest they would probably be Jr. or Sr's before they could compete.
IMHO I think Coach Wells is doing the right thing, get these young guys in and see if they are willing A)- to put in the work and B)- to have the ability to play against the G-towns and Cumberlands of the Mid-South.
An NAIA roster can be huge and include a JV schedule so lets not pass judgement just yet. I think all the guys signed can play at the NAIA level except Kidd, just my view.

As far as the players goes. I think them getting a free college education is a good thing. Pikeville College is just that, Pikeville College. How many of the fans or parents that are playing there now actually goes to the games? This last season, they had players from Canada, Australia and many different states and they STILL lost games that they should have won. If that is going to happen anyways, why not with local players that people will actually pay to go watch play? I can not think of any reason why they couldnt compete with colleges like Georgetown and Cumberland with local players. If you take the best players from all the local teams, you will have a pretty good group of players as long at they can play TOGETHER. I still think PC will recruit players from out of the area that will help them compete more than they could with just local players. But it is good to see the local players getting a free ride on the college level. We need to be standing behind them instead of already saying they dont have a chance. Has anyone on here seen them all play together on the same team instead of against each other? If not, then I guess we dont know how they will do.

If they all started as Freshman, then yes, they wouldn't win a game.
But I was trying to imply that if that was the type of lineup they have in a few years, they'd be alright.
