I am not disputing that you heard it, we all have heard it. Please don’t take it that I was doubting that. Was just curious where you heard it from. I do think several people have thrown that out, but not sure the KHSAA is even considering it. It sounds good short term but then next spring (2021) you would have a football season that ended in May or June and another that started in August of 2021. If you had baseball this fall, 2020, they would wait over a calendar year to have their season in the spring of 2022.
I still think, like Mr Tackett said, we will have some sort of football season this fall.

I just don't see baseball happening in the fall. And here's why. If you do, you just keep delaying everything else over and over again. When would things ever go back to normal if things keep getting pushed back?

At some point one sport, either baseball or football, will have to lose a season. And I hate to say it but in my opinion, football is a lot more popular in KY than baseball. That's just from my point of view. I just know that football dominates the State of Kentucky. And this is just a guess but I'd say football brings in alot more $$$ than baseball does too.

I still believe football will begin on schedule. As far as baseball, they'll try to work it in this summer for a short time but more than likely baseball is not going to happen in 2020. And just say for some reason this happens and baseball is scheduled in the fall, how will these graduating seniors play? Do y'all think that they'll be allowed to play? What about the ones that's going off to college? Will they put college on hold just to play their senior year of baseball? Im not trying to be funny here. These are all serious questions I have. I just don't see some of this stuff being discussed happening. Some of these idea's are getting real creative and I just don't see how it could work.

I am inclined to agree with him, I don’t see football going to the spring at all. That just isn’t a practical solution.

I understand that people are upset about the loss of spring sports this year. It is absolutely horrible, especially for the seniors. But, I don’t think they will try to squeeze those sports in this summer or fall.

To me, it’s easier to cut our losses with what’s happened this spring than it is to move forward by disrupting every other season more than it’s going to be anyways in order to try and steal that time back. It’s unfortunate but that’s the hand we’ve been dealt and the quicker get can get back to “normal” the better off we are, moving things around as a solution creates more problems than it fixes.

Laurel County Schools pink slipped all extra duty. Thought this was coming. The Kentucky Department of Education recommended that all athletic coaches receive non-renewal letters for the upcoming athletic season due to the uncertainty of when school athletics will resume. Per the order by Governor Beshear, all athletic and extra-curricular activities are canceled through at least May 31. Additionally, per recommendation by Governor Beshear all school-owned athletic facilities and properties are to remain closed through June 30, 2020. Laurel County Schools have a rich history of athletic success. We are home to numerous district, region, and state championships! We look forward to seeing our athletes and band students back in action and showcasing their talents. We are hopeful this will be able to occur this fall, but at this time there is no definitive timeline. We will continue to wait for further guidance from the KHSAA, KDE, and Governor Beshear.”

The 23-school California State University system will primarily remain in a virtual learning model this fall as the country continues to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, CSU chancellor Timothy White said Tuesday. That raises questions about the ability for member schools to field athletic teams for the rest of 2020.

At this point, there is not much clarity about what kind of impact the announcement will have on the football programs at San Diego State, Fresno State and San Jose State, all members of the Mountain West Conference.

The separate University of California system, which includes Cal and UCLA, has not fully committed to the same step as the CSU system. But a spokesperson for the UC system told CBS-Los Angeles it is "likely none of our campuses will fully reopen in the fall."


I know this article is about college sports in California, but the main overtone is something I posted earlier in this thread. So many different people and governing bodies are gonna have Veto power on when their school system/district resumes classes and extra-circular activities.


I 100% agree with the majority of the people on this thread about fall sports taking place.... but I'm not in a position to make such calls.

In the article about California, there are at least 25 major universities mentioned that will more than likely, have their entire fall sports seasons canceled. I'm sure they will say based on recommendations from medical professionals it is in our best interest to cancel all in-person classes on our campuses, thus canceling all fall extra-circular activities.
Their conferences may give the green light, the NCAA may give the green light, other states may allow colleges to resume playing sports.... but one governing body can say No and everything stops.

This is common in many districts every year. If you are going to have a reduction in pay, they have to notify you by a certain day in May. This just gives them an out if we don’t have a season. I am not saying I agree with it, just that it is the legal way they can get out of paying if the season is canceled. If we do have a season, they will be paid.

So, statistically speaking, there is basically "no risk" for high school athletes regarding Covid-19. With that being said, you see an increase in fatality rates when you get to the age group of 60+. Even if you are in the 60-69 age group, you have roughly a 2% chance of dying if you contract the virus. No doubt, this virus is dangerous to an elderly person, or someone with an underlying health issue, but if you don't fall into one of these categories, there is a 99.9999% you are going to live, if you contract the virus. So, people need to continue to take precautions, while everyone else moves on with their lives. Heck, most games are streamed live on the internet, so if you are afraid for your safety, stay home and enjoy the game. In my opinion, there is no reason why high school athletics shouldn't resume in the fall. The statistics just don't justify cancelling football, or any other sports this fall.

Students returning to school is the key. If the students do not return to school this Fall, then there is no way there will be a football season or any other athletic events. Public schools are in place for academics not athletics. We will be interesting to see what happens.

In the 20-minute conversation Governor Beshear touched on a variety of topics related to reopening the state, including restaurants, mask-wearing, daycare facilities and youth sports. Without any setbacks, he believes baseball and swimming could be available for kids this summer. There’s still plenty of uncertainty surrounding high school sports, but his goal is to get kids back in schools this fall.

“I believe if we do this right and we prove that we can be healthy at work, if we keep our numbers down, then yes, we’ll be able to go back to school in the fall. If we continue our current trajectory, if our tracing and our testing come through, because we’ve got a lot of positive things going on with the way we are addressing the situation,” he said.

“That’s my goal. I know kids really need to get back to school and that’s my priority. It’s one of the reasons we may not be able to do some other things this summer. It’s because we want to be in the very best position we can to get our kids back to school.”

If they do play football in the fall, then just like how it happened in the NBA, as soon as one school/team has an outbreak, it's over. There will be a knee jerk reaction and they'll cancel the remainder of the season at least for that school, possibly statewide.
