On Feb. 22,1986 Matewan made the 20 mile trip to Phelps.
Andre Cunningham who was High Honorable Mention for Street&Smith Magazine scored 34 points in a road win. Brian Charles scored 25 points for Phelps. Score was Matewan 89 Phelps 86. On Feb. 1, 1986 Phelps with a 77-76 road win in the coal fields. Andre scored 40 points as pictures show a dome gym. Brian Charles with 28 points. Brian teammate Maynard scored 16 and 20 for Phelps. On December 14, 17, and 21 in 1985 Brian scored 38, 25 and 34 points as a super sophmore. Andre played for Marshall and schedule show they play at Rupp Arena. On March 8,1986 Brian scored 25 in a district final win held at Elkhorn City. Mike Fannin another sophmore scored 12 and 7 point in these two games. Mikes play in the 88 region with a injured knee carried Phelps to a Region win.
