Who would have been a social media star from your school?
#1
Gotta be careful nowadays using the word Viral with everything going on.... but since we are deprived of sports, this is a good topic for discussion.

Who would have been a social media star at your school?

Let's have some guidelines on who we select.
Players must have graduated before 2005.
Before Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Hudl, SnapChat, etc. were the way content went 'viral'.

This can be from KY. high school any sport.

Jared Lorenzen.
Rex Chapman.
"King" Kelly Coleman.
J.R. VanHoose
The running back combo of Doug Howard & David Jones.
Bush v. Brohm (2002 4A state finals)
Any football game played in the mud at Sheldon Clark's old football field called "The Rock".

I would never compare J.R. to a Dukie, even though Zion seems to be a great guy.

J.R. is more Anthony Davis without the Brow.

Not as a player or even a dukie.... but Zion's high school career and dunk highlights on YouTube.

Russ Chadwell, Clay County Basketball. Maybe six feet tall but could throw down some incredible dunks. Not one of these guys who did nothing but dunk either-- he had some real game and was a key piece of the State Championship and State Runner-Up teams. I've heard many people who aren't from Clay County but go to the State Tournament every year talk about one of his dunks in what I believe was a Saturday morning semi-final against PRP and have heard guys who've played with him talk about him wowing everyone in a big time Christmas tournament dunk contest.

As someone who saw every game in his high school career in person, I can promise you this is right on the money. Originally signed with Austin Peay, left after one year, transferred to Georgetown College and was a two-time NAIA All-American. Kids used to line up under the Clay Co. goal for pregame warmups just to watch him dunk. He was ahead of his time.

Not saying that he's better than Mac McClung of Georgetown (who is entering the NBA Draft), but I will say that McClung had quite a YouTube following because he was a shorter white boy who could get up, and I've not seen McClung do anything near what Chadwell was supposed to be able to do.

Am I correct in saying that the dunk in the State Tournament game that everyone talks about was in the 1988 semi-final game against PRP or was "the State Tournament Dunk" a different game? And which tournament was the one where he pulled off something crazy in the dunk contest?

The state tournament dunk was against PRP at Freedom Hall in the '88 semis, got the biggest pop from a crowd I've ever heard. He had a dunk at Corbin earlier that year when Eddie Sutton showed up to watch Richie play where he basically jumped over the head of Tommy Stewart of Corbin who was probably 6-3 or so. And the tournament dunk contest was at the Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach in late Dec. '87. He actually finished second to Everick Sullivan, who was a great dunker and went on to a good career at Louisville. I was there for that too. You could hear the snickers from the crowd when Chadwell was introduced, 6-0 white kid weighing about 160. Then he did the Jordan lean in for his first dunk, and all bets were off, he owned the place from there on out.

That's what I thought on the PRP game and the Beach Ball Classic. Those are the two that I'd always heard, but you know how legends grow over time. Sounds like those two didn't need any exaggeration.

David Jones and Doug Howard from Belfry, especially Doug's stiff-arm.
Nick Jamerson from Presontsburg, made some ridiculous catches.
Mister Cobble from Louisville Central, was a man amongst boys.

He was my favorite player to watch in the state tourney. His dunks were awesome.

King Kelly Coleman would’ve been awesome. The stories I’ve heard are crazy
