Most Memorable Sweet 16 Games
#1
Had some memorable games come up in another thread and thought that this could be a positive thread during a not-so-positive time. I'll start and limit it to ones I've seen in person. Instead of just listing them, tell what made it so memorable.

1. Holmes vs. Central - 2009 Finals
The drama of two overtimes for the chip.

2. PRP vs. Ballard - 2005 Quarters
Double overtime and the 3-2-JaJuan Headline the following day.

3. Elizabethtown vs. Russellville - 2000 Semis
The Antwain Barbour led comeback against Tony Key, Duncan, Morris, and company.

4. Scott County vs. Paducah Tilghman - 1999 Semis
My heart aching for Tilghman.

5. Scott County vs. Mason County - 2007
Hicks fouling out and kissing the floor.

6. St. Henry vs. Mason County - 2003
The what-if game.

7. Highlands vs. Graves County - 1998
Seeing how Jared Lorenzen could take the ball out standing flat-footed on the baseline and throw lasers that hit a streaking Derek Smith, who was out-running guards, in stride.

One sticks out to me,Rowan vs Christian County. Hickey vs Adam Wing/DJ Townsend put on a show.
#4
Scott vs Bowling Green in 2017, was another one off top of my head. Jake Ohmer, scored bout 30 to almost pull the upset over the fav. Bowling green in the Final 4.

PRP vs Hazard, Sat. morning game in ‘86. Memorable for a lot of bad reasons

Watching Elisha and Shelby Valley take home a state championship against the big dogs. I was a young pup going with my parents every year and finally I got to see a team from the mountains and root for them to take it back home. It was great memories for sure

Clay Co. 92, PRP 90, ‘88 semis. Russ Chadwell of Clay with 34 points and one of best dunks in Sweet 16 history. PRP was great, led by Andy Penick. This game played a big part in Clay not winning back-to-back titles, this was the late game on Saturday morning, they finally ran out of steam against an equally great Allen Houston-led Ballard team about six hours later.

I can’t believe no one has brought up the best game ever played in the Sweet 16. Scott County scores 11 points in the last 30 seconds to upset Lexington Catholic (#3 in the nation) 85-82.

Was saving that one because I knew you'd jump in on this.

I've never seen anything like the film of that one where fans are throwing food and whatever they can find on the floor. This WYMT clip doesn't show that part and I can't find it anywhere, but has some footage of the game itself.

My high school coach drove me to Louisville. Mark Myers and Keith Stratton played for Pikeville. Jack Givens from Bryan Station. Darrell Griffith as a talented sophomore for Male. When I pick my 15th region team as a fan Mark Meyers will be my second point guard. Howard Wallen from Johnson Central 1970 will be my starting point guard.

The Farmer vs Houston finals have to be up close to the top!

#14
Henry Clay Carlisle Co triple overtime final in 1983

I remember a huge portion of Rupp chanting "PRP won for free, Hazard had no referee" during warmups of the championship. May as well have been a Pulaski County home game in Rupp that night.

With the way crowds are typically already against the larger schools, especially from the Louisville area, from the jump, I would imagine that there wasn't much love for PRP in the building.

Best high school game I’ve ever seen

Fred Walker from Maysville scored 30 points in first round game. And then for Pikeville College scored many points and rebounds. Also selected for their Hall of Fame. McDowell Glen Heinisch scored 22 points, Ricky Roberts 14 and Neil Turner 16. As a eight grader i did not realize the history with Pete Grigsby and all the talented basketball players at this school through the years. A feel good story at Freedom Hall was the tiny school from the 1st region was Hickman County with wins over Clay County and Maysville and lost to Male in semi-finals by 10 points.

There was zero love for PRP. Angriest Sweet 16 crowd that I can remember. Loudest boos of the night was for State Superintendant of Education Alice McDonald who was there to hand out academic awards. She had recently called for basketball season to be cut to 20 games and football to 8. Not a lot of fans of her or PRP at Rupp that night.

Many might not remember this, 1984 First Round Scott County was 12-15 played #1 Ranked Newport Catholic they were 33-1 and Scott beat them soundly. I remember the morning of the game the Lexington paper said "poor Scott County"

Pikeville versus John Hardin two years ago was an epic game... Triple overtime, Battaille dropped 30 and hit a three to send it to OT but hitting three foul shots in double overtime to send it to 3 was amazing.
